About Derek Goebel

Woodside Cabins is family owned and operated. Olga and I have been in the vacation cabin business for 20 years and take great pride in our properties. I grew up in the area and we both have a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains and our beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

Derek Goebel purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Derek Goebel chose Rileyville

The Chalet offers one of the most beautiful sunrise views in the Shenandoah Valley. From almost all the living spaces in the cabin you can take in the spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a large screen porch jsut off the kitchen with new wicker furniture and a table for 4.

What makes this cabin unique

The Chalet offers one of the most beautiful sunrise/moonrise views in the valley. If you wake early enough you can take your coffee to the hot tub and watch the sun come up over the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the evening the sun reflects off the mountains and the play of light is breathtaking.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect. The view was incredible and sitting in the hot tub looking at the stars was so relaxing. We are looking forward our next stay at the chalet.

Relaxing Stay

  • 4 of 5

Convenient location to Luray and the National Park. The Chalet is nestled in the trees, lots of Hickory and no Pine. There’s a nice side deck and fire pit area. The screened in porch is very nice when it rains. We saw hummingbirds, squirrels and deer. The front of the Chalet looks down onto the private road which also runs directly along the side and back of the cabin, there’s not much traffic though. River access is best by car.

A great place for a getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at The Chalet! The place was spacious, clean, and in very good condition. The view is beautiful and the kitchen was well-stocked. The owner was very easy to communicate with and quickly provided us with a new coffee maker when the one we had wasn't working right. The location worked well for us, feeling like were away from things, but having the convenience of groceries & gas in nearby Luray.

The layout of the chalet provides spaces for people to be together or to have some separate time. There is a room with a loveseat and the TV. The main area has another loveseat by the fireplace, a kitchen table, and the kitchen. The screened-in area is very nice and also has a table; we ate most of our meals out there.

A few notes for future guests - It's a little tricky to get out of the driveway, so large vehicles might struggle with that a bit. There isn't a place to sit by or walk along the river; the access points for that are only on private property. If you want to take a morning walk, the gravel road behind the chalet provides gentle hills through woods with just an occasional house. We also enjoyed walking on the Greenway in Luray. The stove/oven is small, which worked fine for 2 adults, but it would be challenging for cooking large amounts of food.

I would highly recommend a trip to Luray Caverns. We also enjoyed going to the Hawksbill Brewery and the Gathering Grounds coffee shop in Luray. It's a very pretty area to visit!

Beautiful location; clean and cozy home

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chalet. It had all the amenities we needed and was very clean. Enjoyed the view from the porch and the hot tub was a nice bonus. In good proximity to the caverns and zip-lining.

Perfect escape

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here completely alone. I had a few days off and needed to get away from everyone and everything. The cabin was beautiful, plenty of room. It was nice having the option of wifi because as a photographer I could still do some work. The hot tub and the view it came with, made it hard to even want to leave the balcony. The view in the morning from bed, gorgeous! I felt so at peace and only being 20 minutes from town or popular touring areas. Would recommend and would definitely go back. Plus, they left cookies for me, which is always a win in my book!
