Battersea Park: once known as Battersea fields, and one of the most popular London dueling spots. It was here, on the 21st March 1829 that the Duke of Wellington, of Waterloo fame and Churchill’s ancestor, met the Earl of Winchilsea to settle a matter of honour. The Duke deliberately aimed his pistol wide; and luckily Winchilsea fired his own weapon into the air, so the Iron Duke lived on a little longer.

Luckily or unluckily, depending on your taste, you no longer run the risk of bumping into dueling gentleman as you stroll through the park, but nevertheless, it still resonates with romanticism and a pleasant sense of mystery lent by being sown at a little distance from the beaten tracks of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

What better place to enjoy a view of the above than from Ivy Letting’s Prince of Wales Drive?
A felicitous discovery, this quiet and beautifully furnished one bedroom home is tucked away inside an imposing Victorian mansion block and commands both inspiring vistas across the park, and tranquility, whilst simultaneously being in the heart of the action – ten minutes from Sloane Square and twenty from Harrods. Sound like an oxymoron? Come and see for yourself…

Living and eating

We were always told that the best things come in small packages, and the proof of this saying really is in this gem of a property. Enter, and be welcomed by a bijou living space, complete with a sofa perfectly positioned and proportioned to receive limbs tired after a long day’s pounding the London pavements. Light and comfortable, with built in bookshelves, you will feel utterly at home and completely relaxed. A comprehensively equipped kitchen offers the luxury of cooking at home, although of course here you are spoilt for choice by the wide range of restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity. A dining table seats two comfortably; ideal for romantic diners-à-deux, or an indulgent solitary supper in the enjoyment of your own company.

Beds and baths

A room of one’s own, and a room with a view – an idyllic, and unprecedented combination in central London ! With charming wooden flooring, and heart-lifting views across the magnificent Battersea Park, you will feel instantly at your ease. A large and alluring double bed completes the picture, and a desk and storage space will delight those of a practical bent.

An immaculate bathroom, complete with lavatory, lavabo and bath/shower, caters for your every ablutionary need, charmingly tiled in keeping with the Victorian architecture of the property.

Access and suitability

This property is particularly suitable for couples, or for individuals over in the city for business or pleasure. Access via stairs.

Neighbourhood

While being located on a quiet street this property has many local convenience stores nearby. There is a Tesco metro just across the street with an ATM outside. Many busses stop nearby that will take you all around London. Reaching the West End takes just over 30 minutes door to do. If you are feeling slightly more energetic walking along the river in either direction is a refreshing way to explore London in either direction.

Don’t forget Battersea Park is literally on your doorstep. With its secret alcoves, lakes, fountains, waterside walkways and intriguing Peace Pagoda it is truly ripe for a day of exploration. There is a boating lake, a small children’s zoo and an enchanting old English garden. Look out for local markets and exhibitions that take place throughout the year. Why not hire some skates or bikes and weave your way through its many cycle paths?

You can walk from your home all the way down the river to the magnificent Tower of London, if you do make it on foot it is quite an achievement so why not celebrate by indulging en route at the sensational Borough food market.

Dining out is tempting with an abundance of local eateries to choose from. Try the Prince Albert for a gastro pub with a good atmosphere and park side location. Remember to glance up to great the rooftop cows that happily graze on the roof. (They aren’t real of course although they may trick you after a drink or too!). Alternatively head to the Lost Angel for some delicious cocktails.

Albert Bridge is gorgeous at night, so take a stroll over to Chelsea and admire the view of London lit up. A quick 15 minute walk will take you to Sloane Square and the King’s Road where fashionable boutiques, cafes and bistros await. Venturing on a little further you come to South Kensington. If it is knowledge you are after here is the place to be with the Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum, and Natural History Museum.

Location

You take a hop over to the river’s southern bank to reach charming Battersea, towered over by the decommissioned Power Station. Nearby sits Battersea Park, replete with fountains and boating lakes, delightful gardens, a small children’s zoo and the magnificent Peace Pagoda.
