About this property

The James Ranch - Peaceful, Quiet, Nature Lovers Paradise!

The James Ranch is a beautiful park like setting in Eastern Washington, located seven miles from Ellensburg. The James Ranch sets on 28 acres at the mouth of Manastash Canyon. It was once a thriving orchard and has several ancient fruit trees still on property. Relax on the garden patio with the fire pit, play basketball or pickleball on the lighted court, enjoy the larger bonfire area, hike one of the many trails around the hills, or just take a morning stroll on a trail that allows views of the entire Kittitas Valley and Mount Stewart Range. Hike straight up behind the house as far as you'd like or hit the popular Manastash Ridge trailhead in just a 1.5 mile drive or a mile walk. Drive up the Manastash canyon for gorgeous views and more hiking trailheads to mountain lakes. Winter cross country ski or snowshoe right out the backdoor and follow the trail at the base of the hills. My home is also a paradise for birds. I have several returning Audubon members for the birding alone. Other animals include deer, elk, porcupines, raccoons, badger, bobcat, coyote, an occasional cougar and an elusive wolverine.

There are many activities in Ellensburg and the Kittitas Valley to enjoy, including my favorite, fishing the renowned trophy trout waters of the Yakima River. Climbing, skiing, hunting and salmon fishing are from 8 to 50 miles away. The James Ranch is 50 mi from Snoqualmie pass for skiers, 45 miles to The Gorge for music lovers, 25 miles from salmon fishing on the Columbia River! Ellensburg, only 7 miles away, provides boutique shopping, art galleries, wine tasting, great food and more! Ellensburg is also the home of Central Washington University.

My home is over 3000 sq ft and is over 100 years old. Don't be misled, it has had some upgrades which includes a dream kitchen with counter space galore, a chef's playground of sorts. The James Ranch home is not a matching themed decorated space, but is my actual home, and has been decorated, however mismatched, by family, friends, and love. Every eclectic piece of furniture or item has a special story behind it that was written with love. Please treat accordingly, and enjoy my home!

Wonderful older farmhouse
If you appreciate the comforts of home than this is the place for you. From the delightful meeting with our host to the calming feeling of the back patio I have zero complaints. The heritage of our Native Americans is proudly displayed and intriguing. I feel the love and respect in this home. Great work Brenda, I look forward to our next stay. Thank you for sharing your home.

Family home away from home
The property was lovely set against the foot hills, lots of shade for a hot July weekend. The flowers were beautiful, we enjoyed the boche ball and pickleball court. The house was perfect for a mixed age family ranging in age from 8 months to 91 years old. It was quiet, clean and Brenda was friendly and accessible. I would highly recommend The James Ranch if you are wanting something with a family feel in a quiet beautiful location.

Heaven on Earth
Our host Brenda was so fantastic. I had so many questions, and she was so kind to answer them all quickly. The property is beautiful and magical. We enjoyed playing croquet, ping pong, pickleball, and basketball. Sitting outdoors in the evening and taking walks under the stars and the moonlight was the best. The home is spacious and has everything we need.

Baseball tournament
We had a baseball tournament at CWU and three coaches and three players had plenty of space for everyone. Great property and home. Would definitely stay again.

I'm a fisheries Biologist and have enjoyed a 30 year career in, under or on the Yakima, Columbia, and Snake Rivers and hundreds of their tributaries. I am currently spending much of my time with my elderly parents and thus leaving my beloved home temporarily, but hoping others may be able to make their own happy memories here to add to the richness and character of my home. Enjoy!

Why they chose this property

The James Ranch is a unique property in that it sits at the mouth of the Manastash Canyon and at the base of Manastash Ridge in beautiful Eastern Washington. My private property heads up the Manastash Ridge and abutt's the LT Murray Wildlife area so there are miles and miles of private and public property to explore! One of my favorite perks of my location is that it's sheltered from most of the Ellensburg winds!

What makes this property unique

The James Ranch is surrounded by an outdoor playground. You can hike straight up behind the house as far as you'd like or hit the popular Manastash Ridge trailhead in just a 1.5 mile drive or a mile walk. Drive up the Manastash canyon for gorgeous views and more hiking trailheads to mountain lakes. Winter cross country ski or snowshoe right out the backdoor and follow the trail at the base of the hills. Climbing, skiing, hunting and fishing are all anywhere from 8 to 45 miles away. My home is also a paradise for birds. I have several returning Audubon members for the birding alone. Other animals include deer, elk, porcupines, raccoons, badger, bobcat, coyote, an occasional cougar and an elusive wolverine.
