I celebrated my 60th birthday at the villa with 24 of my friends. We had an amazing stay. They made us 2 fabulous meals and treated us like we come guests. The wine, the view, the accommodations were fantastic. I was worried because there's no airconditioning and it was hot but the villa stayed cool and comfortable.
Nice that it wa close to Florence. Our room had a wonderful view of the duomo.
I highly recommend!
Thank you Cristiana and Costentino.
My wife & I were very glad to find this lovely place. We were 21 people (19 adults and 2 children). We were very comfortable in the very spacious villa. The views of Florence and the surrounding countryside were just really fantastic! The villa has everything we needed for the week that we stayed there.
But other than the villa, what really made our stay extra special & memorable was the care & kindness of Cristiana, the 78 year old owner & her son Costantino, his wife Cherry & their 2 lovely daughters Elena & Marta. They were always ready to help us in all our needs without being intrusive. We were treated more as family guests rather than paying customers. Costantino cooked some meals for us & they were great. He & his family would come to set the table & prepare the food. Also, there was a time when my uncle needed to go to a clinic and they willingly volunteered to accompany him & my brother to the clinic to be their interpreter. Cristiana is such a lovely lady, she told us stories about the history of the villa & the property. She would always look out for anything that we may need. She made sure that everything in the villa was perfectly working for my 50th birthday celebration. She had the electricians check all the outside lights for garden party. She made sure that the fountain was cleaned and working. She made sure the garden & the home were ready. During a storm she ran closing all the shutters and windows. On our last night, we invited them to join us for dinner to thank them for their hospitality. Costatino surprised us with homemade pizza to add to the party. By the end of the week, we felt that we were leaving the home of a very close relative, rather than a rented villa.
The villa's location is ideal. Close enough to Florence (a quick 30 min drive) yet far enough for some peace & quiet). It is on the top of hill overlooking Florence. The villa is surrounded by olive trees & vineyards in their 150 acre property. You could even tour their winery. The wines they produce, though labelled Chianti, are even better than a lot of Chianti Classico wines. They also have many fruit trees and we were allowed to pick lemons, pomelos and herbs from their garden to use for our meals. They also make their own limoncello and olive oil.
I can honestly say this was the best vacation I have ever had in my life. I will definitely come back and recommend Le Montanine to all I can. Thank you Cristiana. My family will remember you always.
We spent a week at Villa Poggio. We were a group of nineteen, all members of our Family, from 17 to 83 years old. It was simply great. The Villa is awesome, comfortable and with an extraordinary view. The landscape is outstanding. On top of that, Ms Cristiana, the owner, is a great host and lovely person. She received and helped us with everything we have asked for. She was also very nice telling us the story of the house, her Family and very interesting tales about the place and what happened during the Second World War. It was great to be there and we really recommend it.
We stayed at the Villa with Family for the first two weeks in September. The Villa is certainly on a grand scale, covering 4 levels, Lounges and Bedrooms are spacious, bathrooms are large and the dining room is of grand proportions. With the grand entrance and large staircases the villa really looks the part. Downside is the kitchen is in serious need of an upgrade and a good clean and the upstairs laundry really is a washing machine put into a spare toilet.
The extra buildings I am not sure if they are still for let, as the pools associated with them was green and overgrown, but that impacts little on this grand place, you have it all to yourself.
The grounds are well kept in the main and the pool for the Villa was sparkling every day, the great view from around the pool was a bonus. Some of the grounds were not that well-kept but Christiana can only do so much and it is a very large garden. The area out of the dining room has a fountain, great lawn and a wonderful outdoor area overlooking the surrounds. At the side is the great lawn with the ornamental pool.
Every room had the best view and to wake up overlooking Florence and the Tuscan Hills was amazing.
You have to forgive any faults in a place as big as this and remember it was a home, it would take a sizable staff to keep the place immaculate, but this is still a picture book place
The sheets and towels were renewed after the first week and the rubbish and recycling cleared daily, as was the dishwasher emptied and kitchen swept
The place in the whole is really well appointed and clean, Christiana is a great host and her son Constantine cooked some great meals for us, it made our anniversary special. The wine from the estate is first rate and well received.
With the Village only a short walk down the drive way we spent many happy days at the villa and the village which had great little shops and bars. We did our best to assist the local economy and the best times we had were when we stayed home at the villa.
We did not have a car but with the bus stop at the bottom of the drive we managed to visit Chianti, Sienna, Florence, Venice, Pisa and shop in San Cassiano. The best way was to pick up supplies from the Supermarkets next to the Termini in Florence, and get the wines and meats etc. locally. I think Christiana was amazed we managed without a car.
Just an amazing Holiday and stay worth the effort.
My wife and I hosted a group of friends for a week in early September, 2015 at Le Montanine. We have stayed at Le Montanine many times.
Villa Poggio is a stately villa that sleeps up to 22. (Additional lodging is available in smaller houses on the property.) It stands on a hilltop with a 360 degree view of the rolling Tuscan landscape and the Apennine mountain range. In the villa and elsewhere on the property you'll discover beautiful views of Santa Maria di Fiore Cathedral and Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's Bell Tower, and central Florence.
The grounds are well-kept and the villa has two areas for outdoor gatherings. Our group preferred the more intimate setting on the side patio overlooking the lawn and pond. Another area, where meals may be taken, offers vistas over the vineyards, olive groves, and forests of Chianti with the Apennines in the distance.
We also enjoyed the pool, which was sparkling clean with a view of Florence.
We found the villa clean, the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms spacious with good water pressure and ample hot water. The linens and towels were clean and in good condition.
Our group enjoyed preparing a few dinners in the large kitchen on the first floor. It is not modern but it is well equipped with everything we needed. The dining room is large and informal and opens onto a lovely garden. I recommend trying Le Montanine's wine, oil, vin Santo, and limoncello.
Cristiana's son, Costa, and his wife Cherry and younger daughter Marta prepared a traditional Tuscan dinner for us one evening. They are warm and charming, and the meal was excellent and a bargain. Dining in also allowed us to stay at Poggio for an entire evening. As many wonderful attractions as Tuscany offers, we all agreed that our best times were when we spent evenings together at Le Montanine.
It's not necessary to drive all the way into Florence to dine. Over the years, we've had many excellent meals in San Casciano In Val di Pesa, which is a vibrant Chianti town, only 15 minutes away from Le Montanine. San Casciano is very lively in the evenings with many young adults and sweet Italian teenagers laughing and chattering in the pizzerias, gelaterias, and in the pedestrian streets of the centro.
Cristiana is a gracious host and works very hard to make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. We have returned to Le Montanine many times over the years and always recommend it to our friends visiting Tuscany.
A group of 16 of us stayed here in June this year to celebrate my partners big birthday, From start to finish our host Cristiana was fantastic. The villa is a traditional Italian grand house and we were honoured to be able to soak up the history and the atmosphere. It is so large we often didn't see some of the party till we met up in the evening. The views are spectacular and sitting on the terrace and watching the lights in Florence was magical. Constantino, Christiana's son prepared a magnificent 3 course meal for us all one evening which was finished off with the homemade Limincello..mmmm.We also went to the winery and we were given a very instructive talk on the wine making process. The whole holiday was truly memorable and everyone of the party was sad to leave. Cristiana thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us.
Set on panoramic hills just South of Florence, the XIV century Montanine estate with its various properties options is ideally located to visit the legendary city cradle of the Renaissance with its domed Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, churches, famous museums like The Uffizi and Accademia, the Piazza della Signoria, ponte Vecchio bridge and traditional and local products shops and boutiques, such as antiques, handicrafts, glassware, leatherwork, art reproductions, jewelry, souvenirs, elaborate metal and iron-work, shoes, accessories and high fashion clothes.
We are located in the Chianti winemaking region and we are actually producing our biodynamic wine and olive oil and we'll be glad to show you the ancient cellar and the way we produce the Bacchus nectar.
It is possible to make trips to all famous Tuscan cities and towns all easily accessible by the nearby highways in less than an hour drive.
Visit San Gimignano, unique in the preservation of about a dozen of its medieval tower houses, which, with its hilltop setting and encircling walls form an unforgettable skyline; Siena, one of the nation's most visited tourist attractions, famous for the Palio, a horse race held twice a year in July and August; the leaning tower of Pisa; Lucca with its intact Renaissance-era city walls, Arezzo, the Etruscan Volterra, seaside resort of Viareggio and the amazing Unesco World Heritage Site Cinque terre...
Some of our guests even went as far as Venice and Rome on a day trip!
