Simple elegance in the jungle! This thoughtfully designed modern home is perched on a hillside just above the white sands of Santa Teresa. In only a two minute drive or 5 minute walk (up or down the hill), one encounters world-class surf and all the amenities that the town has to offer, such as international cuisine, bank, pharmacy, shopping, grocery stores, surf rentals, snorkeling, fishing, yoga and pilates studios and canopy excursions. The location could not be better.
Measuring 2000 square feet, this house has three bedrooms with air conditioning and orthopedic mattresses (two kings and one twin), two full baths with hot water, a large covered outside living area on both stories and an open comfortable floor plan. The kitchen boasts a professional, imported Wolf stove (unheard of in this area), industrial sink design and the modern fixtures throughout the house add sophistication. The wooden staircase and roof are all custom built from locally grown teak and various hard woods. Best of all, every room in the house boasts expansive ocean and sunset views that never cease to take ones breath away!
Large and secure aluminum sliding doors (best available for security) open to the large infinity pool which flows into the horizon. You will not find a better pool and view. Enjoy watching the surfers ride the peeling waves below. This home is one-of-a-kind, not just for the breathtaking views and outstanding wildlife, but for the craftsmanship and attention to detail that gives this "home away from home" a unique design. A true vacation in paradise!
On-site cleaning, laundry and handyman service is available from our lovely caretaker family who live next-door. They also watch over the house so you'll be sure your belongings are safe and secure. This hidden benefit is a blessing in the jungle and also makes this home one-of-a-kind.

Once in a lifetime
My friend and I were looking for a place where we could feel like locals but still have the quality of an upscale hotel and Sunset Villa was just that! The villa is located right above town and has a perfect location to get to anywhere in Santa Teresa. One thing I should note is that the villa is on top of a hill (which gives you incredible views) so if you aren't planning on renting an ATV or car (which I highly recommend you do), get ready to get in shape! Cameron was incredibly helpful from the beginning when we were booking to the day we were leaving Costa Rica. His onsite caretakers Juan and Ruth were nothing but awesome. I just wish my Spanish was better so that we could tell them in person how much we liked them. Overall, we had an amazing time and can't wait to come back!
And I forgot to mention.....
Jennifer even lent us her cell phone while we were down there. This helped us immensely! She also gave us her blender to use while living there. We really couldn't recommend this house enough. Writing this review is really encouraging me to go back down there for another visit... we both really miss living there and will definitely be staying here again if it's available when we do return.
This was the sexiest place I've ever been. The Pool, the views, the fact that you're actually living in the jungle. The evenings with the sun hitting the water. If you've ever needed a reason to get away.. make this place one.
The perfect home away from home!!
My boyfriend and I stayed at this amazing house for 3 months while I was pregnant. It's rather difficult to be away from home while pregnant and still feel comfortable, but I always felt more than comfortable throughout our stay here. In fact, we felt that this was the ideal home away from home for us. Jennifer is a wonderful person, first meeting up with us in Colorado where we were living at the time to walk us through living at her home and answered all of our many questions (including where there might be pre-natal yoga classes and even where to buy rice milk :)) The caretakers Juan and Ruth (and their adorable 4 year-old daughter Diana) couldn't be any kinder and more helpful.... the house was always immaculate, our laundry was always washed and folded (which was a really nice break), the bedding was changed frequently, they fixed whatever needed to be worked on (the pool light broke while living there and Juan was right on it) and were wonderful, patient teachers to us practicing our spanish. Ruth even cooked us dinner one night. They are a very, sweet family and we became friends quickly, eating dinner together frequently and I really enjoyed playing and reading with little Diana. We both felt very safe with them there. We also found fresh picked flowers in the vase in the kitchen and bananas just picked off the tree out front whenever we returned from our outings. Their friendly, adorable dog Honey was lots of fun to play with (warning- you're going to fall in love with this sweet puppy and not want to leave!) This home is incredibly charming and modern, and extremely comfortable and cozy. There is a beautiful pool, washer in the garage and clothing line just beside the house, the best yoga classes we've ever taken just steps away (Horizons), the beach a few more steps down, and the most magnificent view of the ocean and jungle (you could literally sit in bed and not only watch and hear the waves crashing, but also the monkeys hanging in the trees), all within walking distance to town. I would say the only downside is that it's placed up on a hill, which makes it slightly difficult to drive to, unless you have a quad or a 4x4. We walked most of the time though, which was a great hike (and as a pregnant lady, if I could make it up and down almost every day, I bet you could too! ;-)) And that's why the view is so incredible anyway. I would highly recommend this beautiful home to anyone looking to rejuvinate and re-energize themselves.
Nice House with some surprises...
The house is really nice, nicely decorated, kitchen fully equiped, very comfortable bed, bedrooms perfectly separated and amazing view... so everything to be happy and enjoy vacations but we didn't enjoy it as much as we were supposed to because of the management of the house. First, the house is at the top of a hill and the road, I mean the trail to arrive there is hardcore, we did it easily with a quad but you'll need to be a good driver with a 4x4. Some friend come visit us with moto and only 1 manage to make it to the top. When we arrive at the house in the morning, we bring all our groceries and place them in the fridge which was not cold at all (just plug minutes before we arrive) and discover in the evening that it was not plug well so all our stuffs was hot and almost not good anymore. Also the pool was not cleaned when we arrive, I had to do it and had to start the flow system to clean it up a bit, so fridge + pool = not ready !
The safe case code was not working as the previous renters didn't leave their code and the girl that was in charge of receiving us told us to wait for his husband. As the safe was containing the keys, we had to wait for him and couldn't leave the house with all our stuffs in / cash / passport. At the end of the day no one come so I had to go to see the girl (which will be your neighboor with her family as they are living in the backyard in a small cabinas and they can see the pool of the house from there) and ask her when her husband was coming back and show her that I have wait too much already. She said it will be soon and 5 minutes later she arrives with the key of the safe which mean that we have wait all day and she had the keys with her !!! So we had to spend the whole day in the house and cancel all our plans as we were waiting for all these keys problems to be fix ! Also I would like to mention that the caretakers (that are living in the backyard) are often coming to the garage of the house (close to the pool) and often going around the house to swim in the pool of the neighbours (I guess they are also taking care of the neighbours house and I am sure when everybody is gone they are even leave here !!) which is a lack of privacy as on the back of the house, the bathroom doesn't have any window which is really nice but if no one goes around the house !!! My girlfriend was surprised while under the shower !!!
Also in the evening the light of the pool was not working and I had to go and see the guy to fix it (again)
I apologize about this review. I had a problem with this renter even before they showed up and received complaints from them I have never received before and I have been renting for 3 years. I hope this review from this guest will be taken with a very large grain of salt. In response:
-the guests showed up early
-the guests showed up with 3 extra travelers
-the guests told me they would give me a bad review if I did not give them a free night. It felt like blackmail.
So, please do not overlook our beautiful villa from one unfortunate renter and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
I've had the pleasure to stay at Sunset Villa twice over the past year and I look forward to my next trip. There are a couple of things that stand out for me. One, this place just has a feeling of "home". The villa itself seems to have walked off the pages of a Dwell magazine with a warm, open and modern feel. Secondly, I go to Costa Rica to surf and the pleasure of laying in bed and seeing the waves breaking is unbelievable. I don't have to go anywhere to get the morning surf report. Not to mention the sunsets. The sunsets from the villa are some of the best. I like to lay in the pool or sit in a rocking chair on the balcony and watch the sun set into the sea. Thirdly, Juan and Ruth, the caretakers, live on the property and are great and extremely helpful! Highly recommend this casa!
