About Marlene johansing

Born and raised in California. I moved to Mexico full time in 1998. Prior to that in 1991 I split my time between Del Mar, Ca. and San Miguel .

Marlene johansing purchased this apartment in 1998

Why Marlene johansing chose Centro Historico

The colonial town of San Miguel is my home.I live here because it is peaceful and tranquil. The people are gentle and friendly. Mexico is so much more then the coast or border towns often thought of as Mexico. It is a country with a rich history.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is in centro all museums, cultural activities, shopping and most resturants are within a couple of blocks.

Hi Marlene. I'm back home in Puerto Escondido. Thank you for your hospitality! I love your place -- the plants, the deco, the puppies and kitty.

When VRBO sends me a request for a comment, I'll make sure to share this. Thanks again,

We had a fabulous time in this space. The location could NOT be more perfect. The rooftop is aaaamazing. The space is huge and lovely. The beds are super comfy, the shower is awesome. Just dreamy. Marelene was super helpful the entire time! We visited other friends throughout town and everything was a perfect walk. We loved the bakery down the street Panio. Yum. Every day. And the bar by Los Milagros is amazing.

You're super close to incredible stores and shops full of unique beautiful artifacts of this region. Recommend Corazon Canela for sure. We had such a blast and this was the perfect respite and also, perfect launch pad. We were so happy here! Only tip is, bring earplugs... bells are going off at the churches all the time and unpredictable times and earplugs are a must for sleeping from 4am on. :-). Soooooooo fabulous. The churches from the rooftop are just dreamy. So beautiful - Thank you Marlene for an incredible home away from home.

Wonderful location with a charming landlady.

You know you are in Mexico with the colorful apartment and the fabulous private patio. Everything is so close that it would be a shame not to go in the Sunday house tour or the historical walking tour. The blue door bakery is a must. Just up the block , pickup a tray and thongs and select different breads and sweets. Can't wait to go back .

Couldn't be better!!!

  • 5 of 5

What can I say that hasn't already been said in the other reviews. We loved this apartment and we loved Marlene, our host. The apartment is so lovely, and one of my criteria is a comfortable bed. And it is! The apartment has a lovely rooftop terrace, great for afternoon naps, and evening happy hours. The location can't be beat, near all of our favorite restaurants, markets, activities etc. Marlene's assistants, Ana and Jose, are delightful and helpful. Thank you Marlene for your hospitality, introducing me to your friends, our writing class and the tour of the clay studio. See you next year.

Vibrant San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week in San Miguel at this apartment and could not have been happier. The location is perfect, close to Centro basically a block and half off the main square. The apartment itself was nothing like I have stayed at before as it is designed and decorated in the traditional way for the area.

I golfed almost everyday which I needed a cab to get to the courses. Walking out the door, I never had to wait more than 2 minutes for a cab to come right by my door and you can get anywhere in San Miguel for 3 to 4 dollars. Walking out the door everything is at your finger tips and there is so much to see, the city is vibrant is the only way I know how to explain it.

The owner was incredibly accommodating as I arrived after midnight and with a touch of the flu. Not only was she helpful with things to do, she set me up with a doctor that her handy man took me because my Spanish is not good. Her helper that takes care of the cleaning went above and beyond as I also needed laundry done which was taken care of while I was golfing. Could not have been happier with the accommodations.

Visit San Miguel de Allende

  • 5 of 5

My 5 y/o daughter and I visited San Miguel de Allende for the first time in April, arriving just after the Easter celebrations that are so colorful. Our week long stay was fantastic and incredibly memorable for layers of reasons. Meeting Marlene, the owner of our apartment, and enjoying a couple delicious comidas at her place with her lively friends coupled with our action packed days full of the simple pleasures of exploring SM to excursions outside of town we couldn't have asked for more. And when we were just getting started it was time to leave!

Here's how I would promote a trip to San Miguel de Allende:

Take me to San Miguel de Allende!

Experience arts, culture, and world class cuisine in the well preserved, colonial-era, and simply gorgeous San Miguel de Allende. Stay in a fully outfitted private apartment (part of a 350 year old original home) in the historic center of town, located just one block from the famous Jardin and main plaza. Walk to all the sights, museums, parks, and fabulous restaurants and allow yourself to absorb the rich spirit of central Mexico. Live a little and visit a nearby ranch for some horseback riding, rise above it all in a hot air balloon, and then soak your muscles at local hot springs, and maybe grab a bite at Nirvana.

The easy 2 hour flight from LA to Leon and simple shuttle connection to SMdeA makes this gem of a destination even better!
