If you have rented a car, there are various adventures that you can do without a tour guide and at your own leisurely pace. Within San Ignacio itself there is the small Archeological site of Cahal Pech, less than 8 miles away heading westwardly, is the other site of Xunantunich where you have to cross a hand-cranked ferry to reach. Also in the neighborhood within 15 miles is horse-back riding, river tubing or canoeing, ziplining, butterfly and hummingbird farm, Belize Botanical Gardens. You can request a picnic basket to take on the road and see where it leads you if you are "just winging it". The Mountain Pine Ridge offers the historic site of Caracol. Guests make a day of the Mountain Pine Ridge by also visiting the Rio Frio Cave, Rio On Pools and/or Big Rock sure to take your swimming suit.
