30 day minimum length of stay. This quiet, two bedroom, two bath apartment is located on sixth street in Downtown Santa Monica, close to the sand and the Santa Monica Pier. The area is popular with locals and tourists due to the Third Street Promenade, shops, restaurants and movie theatres. For the gourmet inspired, the Wednesday and Saturday morning Farmers’ Markets are a short walk from this residential building.

This apartment sleeps up to six guests. Enter into the kitchen and living area, decorated in contemporary style. Light wood laminate floors line the entryway, kitchen, and bathrooms. Taupe carpet keeps the living room and bedrooms cozy and quiet. The kitchen has brown granite countertops, dark wood cabinetry, and stainless steel Frigidaire appliances, including a gas stove/oven, built-in microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. Also included are double sinks, customary countertop appliances, cookware, dishware, and a breakfast counter with bar stools. The living room area has an L-shaped sofa that converts to a double bed, a large flat screen television and a quiet, sunny, interior courtyard balcony. Both bedrooms and baths are en suite on opposite sides of the living area. They are similarly decorated with a queen bed, chocolate duvets and dressers. The master bedroom has a flat screen television, dressing mirror and a larger bathroom. The bathroom has a separate glass door shower stall, an oval deep soaking tub and a single sink vanity with granite countertop and dark wood cabinetry. The second bedroom suite has extra closet space with one walk-in closet and one regular sized closet stocked with extra linens. The bath is similar in décor as the master bath, with a tub and shower combination and single sink vanity. Additional amenities include a laundry closet in the entryway, central heat and air, complimentary Wi-Fi, two parking spaces in the underground garage and a secured front entry lobby.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Good: The unit is spacious and reasonably well-appointed. It's nice to have two ensuite bedrooms. It was clean. It is in a good location and other than a ton of siren activity in town, very quiet. There's a cool coffee shop across the street. The neighborhood (well, all of SM) is walkable.

Bad: Gaining access was a real hassle. We followed directions to an office in Del Mar Vista to get the keys from a lockbox. But the lockbox was empty, and of course, at 8 pm, no one was there. So we called, emailed and texted - and got a response about an hour later. In the meantime, we had gone on to Santa Monica to meet friends for dinner. Evidently, the maid had left the keys in the apartment.

Ugly: We were told to go back to Del Mar Vista to get a spare key. At this point, it's 10 pm and we don't have a car, so to take an Uber back and forth, plus waste an hour - was not something we were willing to do. So after 4 calls, a manager finally agreed to meet us at the unit. However, the spare key did not have a lobby key, so we had to wait for another resident arrive and let us into the building. Upon arrival, nothing in the unit worked - the A/C, lights in the kitchen, etc. - all dark. We thought to check the panel, and indeed, everything was switched off. But even then, about half of the light bulbs in the unit were burned out. When we found the keys in the unit, they didn't have a lobby key. So we had to come and go by the garage, and the alleys in SM are a little sketchy late at night.

All's well: The management finally slipped the lobby key under the door, so the last half of our stay was uneventful.
