About the property

Be among the first to enjoy this beautiful designer renovated home with updated stainless kitchen appliances, granite and quartz kitchen countertops and much more. Bathe in one of the two large bathrooms or in one of the 2 outdoor showers. The large heated pool is amazing with generous deck space that includes 6 lounge chairs or relax on one of the 2 deck spaces facing the pool. Each has an outdoor dining set with seating for 4. This is a wonderful home for family reunions, sleeping up to twelve with no additional cost.

The home is located only 4 houses from the beach. Walking distance! A golf cart is provided for convenience. Additional golf carts may be rented for convenience of large groups.

One of the best things about this home is the gorgeous views of the white, sandy beaches and Gulf of Mexico beyond. Watch the sunrise from the East side of the upper deck and set off the West side. With almost 5000 sq ft of deck space, it is easy to find a quiet place to relax while enjoying the outdoors. A large shaded deck is ready for R and R too.

Have kids? No problem. Our home has 2 foosball tables and one of the tables converts to a mini pool table to keep the little ones entertained. The beach is a short walk away from the home. Beach chairs and beach towels provided with beach umbrellas and sand toys to make your vacation even more fun for the kids.

Please stay at our home and enjoy North Captiva. A truly unique experience of an island that can still only be accessed by boat or plane. A ferry service runs several times daily. Our home is located next to the airstrip and we are fascinated watching the planes and occasional helicopters land. So Cool!

The fees includes cleaning of the home after your stay, a meet and greet with a local guide who will pick your party up from the ferry and bring you and your belongings to the home. This fee also includes a guide to bring you back to the ferry after your stay. The fee also includes sundries.

Q: How do I get to the island?

A: By Island Girl Ferry from Pine Island which runs every 2 hours. Please check their website for reservations, ferry times and up to date pricing. Leave your car and cares behind at the dock. No cars on the island... only golf carts!

Q: How do I get groceries?

A: Our property Manager will send you a grocery request form prior to your arrival and will bring the groceries to the home for you. Alternatively, you may bring groceries with you. If you choose to bring groceries, we suggest ordering ahead of time at the Publix Supermarket nearest Pine Island and picking the order up on your way to the Ferry.

Q: How many golf carts?

A: We currently have one golf cart. Additional golf carts may be requested from our property manager.

Q: Is the home close to the beach?

A: Yes. Our home is only a few houses away from the beach, a short walk or cart ride. The small island is surrounded by beaches and mangroves.

Q: Can weddings be held at the beach or home?

A: I am not aware of restrictions against this. Please have a permit if needed.

Q: Is there a bathtub?

A: Yes. One of the bathrooms has a tub.

Q: Is the pool heated?

A: Yes. The home has its own private, heated, large swimming pool.

Q: Are we in the NCIC club?

A: No. We have done a lot of research and did not find membership necessary because we have our own private, heated swimming pool as well as kayaks and games and books at the home.

Q: Is there shopping?

A: There is a convenience store on the island and a very cute gift shop.

Q: Do we have a boat dock?

A: Our home does not have a dock.

Q: Are there restaurants on the island?

A: Yes, there are 4 restaurants on the island.

Q: Is it noisy next to the airstrip?

A: No. It is very quiet with only an occasional take off or landing. The airstrip has no lights, so it can only be used during daylight hours.

Q: How far are the restaurants and shopping?

A: The island is only 0.5 x 4.5 miles total, so all 4 restaurants and gift shop are close to the home. 2/3 of the island is preserve.

Q: What is the closest airport?

A: RSW (Fort Myers International Airport)

Q: How do we go shopping in Fort Myers or Sanibel?

A: Upper Captiva is truly a remote getaway. We recommend shopping the surrounding areas before and after your stay on Upper Captiva. If you want a day trip, there are several boat rental agencies where you can rent boats or hire a captain to take you around for the day. They can help you arrange fishing or shopping excursions.

About Anita

My husband, Brian and I married in 2012. I am from Illinois originally but have lived in Oklahoma, Georgia and now Florida. Brian is from Massachusetts and has also lived in the Florida Keys. We live in Fort Myers with our children. Having vacationed many times with the kids, we really know what we are looking for in a vacation rental when we stay and think that we have hit the mark with this wonderful home.

Anita purchased this house in 2017

Why Anita chose Jose's Hideaway

We were fascinated by the island. Our friend aptly described the area as "camp for grownups"! I definitely agree. Being on the island away from the hustle and bustle with only golf carts to get around really gives you the sense of adventure that you hopefully experienced as a child... but has the modern conveniences one expects as an adult!

Whiteshell Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We just spent spring break at this rental & it by far met all our expectations. Laurie and Duncan were wonderful and were always available when we needed them. The house was clean and had great views of the ocean. We had 3 families and everyone loved it especially the pool. The kids loved it and would barely get out. The only thing I can think of to maybe improve the stay would have been more large casserole dishes or pans to cook in the oven since cooking is your main source of food. But the cleanliness, space, and all other amenities were just perfect. The beach towels, umbrellas, & beach chairs provided were an awesome amenity! We made memories to last a lifetime and we thank you so much for sharing your home with us!!

Lovely week in Florida

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice. They met us at the dock to check us in even though we arrived later in the evening at 9:30pm by a private charter. The house was as pictured and extremely clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook, including a grill. We enjoyed many beautiful days playing at the beach and in the pool, which was heated enough that even the infant in our party could swim for a long time. They had a wonderful supply of beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas and toys for use at the beach, floaties for the pool, as well as kayaks. We were especially thankful for the baby items available at the house including a pack n play, high chair, ring floaty, push toy, etc. Watching the small planes take off a couple of times per day was neat. Overall it was a fantastic, relaxing vacation and we hope to return another year.

The one suggestion I have is that the house should keep a deeper stock of standard household items - there is plenty of closet space to do so. 10-12 people go through a reasonable amount of items like toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher pods, etc. and it would be nice if there were a small backup supply on site. That said, the management company responded to all of our requests in a prompt and courteous fashion.

A Family celebration!!

  • 5 of 5

This home fit our large family very well. Nice pool , great beach toys, umbrellas and chairs. Very accommodating on getting highchairs, pack and plays for two one year olds. We all relaxed and had fun on the Island . Does take some work getting their!! We were greeted by Duncan and crew once we arrived on the Island. That was very helpful. We enjoyed the restaurant on the Island too. We all said we're going back!! Hopefully the weather will be a little warmer next time.

Beautiful house and great location! Love the Island life

  • 4 of 5

The house was great. North Captiva is a beautiful island. Great views. The house was stocked well with towels, soaps and detergents. Needs more storage containers and knives.

A few issues with garbage collection and a broken golf cart but otherwise happy with the house.

Our stay at White Shell Hideaway was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was really nice. The kitchen was modern and had lots of storage space. There were beds everywhere, with plenty of room for everyone. The winding staircase and the steps to the pool both had child safety gates, which was great with 2 toddlers. The pool and all of the decks were awesome, too.

Our stay at the island was so peaceful and the scenery was beautiful. All of the people we dealt with were very friendly and helpful.

We highly recommend this house and the island to everyone!

Our families had an amazing time on North Captiva.

  • 5 of 5

The home is very nice and worked out very well for our two families. It is very open and welcoming if a tad bit dated on the Inside. The bedrooms and bathrooms are quite spacious although the third bedroom downstairs is really a converted sunroom with an opening above the doors so the privacy is somewhat lacking. The kitchen is large and open with tons of cabinet space and plenty of dishes and silverware. Tons of deck space and the pool is a considerable asset when you have small children. It was nice coming back from the beach and using the pool in the afternoon. I would highly recommend this property for families of all types.
