To get here from Belize City - you have many options. You can book a flight on Tropic Air or Maya Island Air. They have about 8 flights each per day to the Placencia Airstrip, takes about 30 minutes gate to gate and the flight is very pretty. The cost is approximately 120 USD per person per direction.
Alternately, you could rent a car right at the Belize Airport. We recommend Jabiru - talk to Nigel and tell him you're staying at the Wooden Mongoose. The drive from Belize City to the Placencia Peninsula is a very pretty drive through the mountains and countryside. It takes about 3-1/2 to 4 hours to get there and we have done the drive many times ourselves. Leave yourself time to stop along the way to chat with locals and vendors, but we would suggest you try to get through the mountains before dark. If you leave Belize City by 3 pm at the latest, you should be through the mountains before dark. We have complete directions on our website at Wooden Mongoose including maps and photos along the way.
If you don't want to drive, there is a bus that you can take. Local bus services are generally old school buses, cost about $10 per person USD per direction. This options takes about 4-1/2 to 5 hours and they aren't always 100% reliable and you may find yourself waiting on the side of the road for the next one. There are even taxi-cabs at the airport who will drive you if you're willing. This shouldn't cost you more than $150 USD per direction total. Ultimately there are a lot of options to get here.
We highly recommend renting a vehicle from Belize City. If you do not, either a car or a golf cart in the area would be okay too, as we are not directly in the village. We are approximately 2 minutes by car from Seine Bight and 3 or 4 minutes from Maya Beach. Both of these villages have restaurants and grocery stores for your every day needs. A vehicle will also be handy if you plan on doing any sightseeing of the ancient ruins or the spectacular wildlife in Belize. The country is small but spread out and though it is possible to traverse by bus, the most reliable method of transport would be a car.
The beach is a walk of approximately 300 steps across the street to our beachfront house, where you will find a saltwater pool that you can access. The pool is a private swimming pool for both us and our guests to enjoy. There is a small coral reef with thousands of fish approximately 250-300 feet off shore in only 8 or so feet of water.
AGAIN ... THE CABANA IS NOT DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH. IT IS A WALK ACROSS THE STREET TO THE POOL AND BEACH.
These units are full houses and are non-housekeeping. We provide clean towels/sheets. The rest is up to you.
Laundry facilities are available on site for an small additional fee of $5 USD to use the washer, dryer and soap.
