About Jocelyn and Gary Copeland
The Copeland's are a couple originally from West Virginia and Maryland. As a family of three, we enjoy spending time with our extended family in both St. Mary's county and other areas in Maryland, Florida and West Virginia.
Jocelyn and Gary Copeland purchased this House in 2017
Why Jocelyn and Gary Copeland chose Point Lookout
Hays Beach has been not only our favorite family vacation location for two years, it's also been a welcomed "retreat" from the daily pace of suburban Maryland life. It felt like a natural "next step" in our journey as a family to purchase The Hideaway in Hays Beach and share our experience with others.
What makes this House unique
We are more at peace here than in any other place we have ever visited. The Hays Beach community is calm and neighborly and the expansive views of the Bay water and the forest and creek/lake are captivating. We live in a suburb of Washington DC and like many others, our days and weeks are filled with time spent in "the box" of an office, a house, a school and a car. Being outdoors is one thing. Being outdoors where our 360 degree view to the horizon is filled with the expanse of the Chesapeake Bay, tall forest and marshy creek, just takes your mind and heart out of "the box". We enjoy the pace of this place, exploring Maryland's history, the natural environment which surrounds the property, the sounds of birds, tall trees, listening to the water, noticing how the beach changes, kayaking, taking photographs, collecting stones and sea glass, chasing crabs, walking back through the Creek, taking walks, riding bikes, meeting and talking with neighbors, watching our friends and families children explore nature, run and play and learn to crab -- we have just never had a "negative" experience here and always feel better after having visited. You likely will too.

The house was fantastic!! The location was amazing, and the beach was the best for small children (the water was even warm because there is a sandbar right there). The house itself was also perfect- a really nice kitchen that is well stocked with great bedrooms and an overall setup that worked perfectly for two families!
Great family vacation rental
Location was super and the Copeland's were very accessible and helpful. Easy to relax at the property and plenty of day trip activities around. Point Lookout lighthouse was closed for renovations but the park was really neat with a lot of historical information and we saw the Maryland Dove sailing.
Our family of five loves this property and enjoyed the remote location.
We loved the endless walks on the beach as well as the house amenities with water sports and crabbing.
A beautifull beach getaway
This is a beautifully decorated and well-appointed house, a minute's walk to the beach. It's surrounded by pine trees and near a nature preserve. Even though there are a few other houses around there is a sense of privacy and seclusion. You can glimpse the bay from the large windows. The house has a nice layout, all on one floor. We stayed there comfortably with our daughter and son-in-law, and two toddlers. The master bedroom is at one end of the house and at the other end are the two additional bedrooms with their adjacent bathroom. The master bath is near the kitchen. There are lots of nice places to sit, both inside and out, and everything you could want for summer: a barbecue grill, kayaks, beach chairs, an outdoor shower...The beach is great for swimming and taking short walks. Down at the estuary at dusk we saw lots of blue crabs, to our grandson's delight.
It was quiet and peaceful
It was excellent
Thank you and all the very best to each if you!
You and your group are most welcome to return to The Hideaway anytime you are in the area again for work or play;)
Tranquil off-season getaway
We enjoyed a lovely post Thanksgiving get-away at Hays Beach. Quiet and beautiful sandy beach with a creek running nearby. Wonderful host--super responsive. House as pictured--well equipped kitchen, outdoor areas, and bedrooms. Internet is a bit slow (not surprising as you are off the beaten path). Looking forward to when the fireplace is back in working order. An outdoor fire pit would have been great! Thanks for a lovely weekend!
We thank you and your family for these lovely comments and hope very much to welcome you back again and again to enjoy the house and area.
The outdoor firepit will be out of the metal refinishing shop soon, it did not fare well in the mix of fresh/salt water this season and needed rust removed and primer applied. And we expect to have the interior wood burning fireplace open for the winter season as well with wood stocked on the hearth and on a rack on the back porch.
Beautiful, peaceful, lovely location
