About Ginger Jones
We have lived here happily for many years. My husband was born and raised here. This is why there are two homes on the property (but one is vacant and is not ever rented out). It has been a multi-generational home. We decided to buy another ranch just two miles away. We want to keep the property and home and decided that sharing the home with others who are visiting the Redding area would be awesome. We are enjoying it very much.

Comfortable Ranch Home
My friends and family were in Redding for a funeral. We had one member using a walker, and we had another with 2 dogs. The house couldn't have been more comfortable for our needs. It was raining and hailing during our stay so we didn't get to enjoy the property outdoors. The floor layout worked well for our group. People moved between sitting in the dining room, hanging out at the bar stools in the kitchen, or relaxing in the living room. Ginger, the property manager, couldn't have been any kinder. She responded promptly to our questions, prior to our stay. She recommended a particular bedroom for our friend using a walker. If we have the opportunity to stay in Redding again, I would rent this same house. Thank you Ginger!
Thank you for the kind review Ruth. You and your guests were amazing. You are welcome back anytime. PS... I couldn't even tell that your friends dogs were in the house. They are welcome back anytime too.
This is not a one level home!
This property used to be part of a ranch. There are outbuildings and land, but this is NOT a ranch style home. It really needs some TLC. The front stairs and handrail are loose. There are two stairs inside the home from the kitchen to the dining room. These are through a narrow sliding glass door. The home is charming and decorated. However, it is difficult to use the kitchen as some needed items are very hard to find. We could only find one small, damaged spatula. However there are at least 40 sharp knives. Then 2 meat grinders. We found the bathtub in the master bedroom to be quite slippery with no tub mats available for use or a safety handrail. Some safety issues need addressed, as well as thought into more useful kitchen items. We stayed for 7 nights and really could have used a more equipped and organized kitchen. The beds were quite comfortable but need pillows! Only 2 very flat pillows in the master bedroom. We bought pillows for our stay. I wouldn’t stay here again as some family members needed a one level safe home. This would work for a young family in the summer who didn’t prefer to make meals in the home. The house was clean.
I was disappointed with your review but not surprised at all. The moment I met you to welcome you to our home, I was bombarded with unrealistic requests such as a reclining chair to be brought in, a shower chair, 4 extension cords and to remove all rugs from the home which the last request I did immediately. I let you know that the couch had two recliners. Each bedroom has at least 4 pillows in each room but the room that you are stating about has 7 full sized pillows. I do my best to have the home fully stocked. It is challenging at first when you have never been in a home to find items especially in a kitchen but I can assure you that the kitchen has everything you need to cook a fine meal. I even have a meat grinder for your convenience. I let you know through a text before you booked that there are two steps from the dining room to the kitchen. One thing that you did not mention is the multiple people you entertained in our home during your stay and New year's day . You had multiple grandchildren who turned the relief valve on the pump of our pool which emptied 2/3 of our swimming pool. Also, you had left our property and you texted me that you had given the keys to our home to a family member and that they would be coming over later to get your groceries that you had bought and left behind. Next time make sure you never give the keys to another person. It leaves a lot of room for liability. I realize that this was your first time staying in a vacation home but if I would have known prior to you stay that there were special needs for individuals I would have attempted to accommodate your needs and if not possible, I would have let you know our home was not suitable. I do hope that if you ever travel again that your stay is more enjoyable.
Fine for our stay
Good experience in funky ranch house
Four of our family members met in Redding for a funeral at the beginning of Thanksgiving week and we decided to rent this house so we could have a private early Thanksgiving dinner while we were all together. The house suited our needs very nicely. Ginger was very prompt in responding to our questions and dealing with a plugged toilet.
There are a few things about the house that prospective renters should be aware of but are not obvious from the listing description and photos. The layout is a little unconventional (my sister's term for it was "funky"). The entrance to the blue bedroom is directly off the dining room. The dining room is two steps lower than the kitchen which makes it a little tricky bringing hot food to the dining table. The presence of the steps also means you want to be wide awake as you walk from the blue bedroom through the dining room all the way to the other end of the house to go to the hall bathroom in the middle of the night. The shower in the hall bathroom is quite small. The house does not have central heat but there are portable space heaters in the further reaches of the house. The property fronts onto College View Drive which faces Highway 299. We thought this might result in road noise in the house, but that did not seem to be the case. Even though the house is on a 5 acre lot, noise from the neighbors' barking dog and kids playing Marco Polo was enough to distract us while we were conversing on the back patio.
Overall the house suited our needs, but we concluded that the price is steep for what you get.
There are so many places and things to do in the Redding area. I love waterfalls, so my favorite place to visit is Burney Falls. It is a beautiful drive which is approximately one hour from our home. Another amazing place is WhiskeyTown Lake. There are waterfalls there too but also beaches, boating and just relaxing. Shasta Lake another amazing place. There, you can view the three Shastas, Lake Shasta, Shasta Dam, and Mt. Shasta. Both lakes are very easy access from our home and are both approximately a 30 minute drive. Bethel Church is approximately one mile from our home (same road). We have had many visitors come stay at our home who have attended Bethel events. Everyone has been very happy to have it so convenient to get to. Water Works Park is right up the road (2 miles) so if the kids need more swimming and entertainment, it is very convenient.
