About Joe Keenan
I am retired military and will soon retire from the State of Florida in the Law Enforcement. My dream was to have a home in the mountains to enjoy time with family and friends, ride my motorcycle, hike, kayak and fish.
Joe Keenan purchased this Cabin in 2017
Why Joe Keenan chose Murphy
Our cabin sits at an 1800 ft. elevation in the western most county of NC which borders on GA and TN. It is surrounded by the Appalachian & Blue Ridge Mountains and the Nantahala & Chattahoochee National Forests. The Hiwassee, Valley and Nottely Rivers run thru this area along with multiple lakes. No wonder it is an outdoor lovers paradise with boating, kayaking, zip lining, white water rafting, hiking, mountain biking, trout fishing, scenic drives and motorcycling. The Cyclists will enjoy amazing rides including the famous Deal's Gap mountain pass. Within two hours of Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Ashville for the closest airports and shopping in the larger cities. 5 min. to Harrah's Casino, 10 min. to grocery store, Walmart and the quaint old downtown Murphy. Built 1839, it has tree lined streets with historic buildings, restaurants, and shops that are all very walkable. So many small towns in this area to explore their flea markets, antique shops, crafts, great people and great food. Multiple wineries and breweries nearby as well. John C Campbell Folk School is a nationally known adult education school in Brasstown which is 15 miles away. They offer classes in music, photography, arts/crafts, gardening, writing, dance, story telling, along with concert series and a craft shop.
What makes this Cabin unique
We are originally from Ohio and moved to Florida back in 1988. We bought this cabin to once again experience a little bit of the north again. Slower pace of life/see the seasons change/lower humidity without the extreme cold winters. We are what they call here in NC as " halfbacks". The locals have been nothing but welcoming here. So friendly and helpful. The cabin is our " happy place". It feels so warm and cozy. It's great to just sit back on the porch and see the mountains and the wildlife right in front of you. Birds galore in the feeder. Or snuggle up in front of the fireplace and relax. So quiet and secluded, but so close to town. Paved roads allow for great walks too.

Beautiful setting, outstanding house
The house is located in a beautiful area near many places to visit. Near hiking, rafting, zip lines and beautiful scenery.
The house had everything we needed. It has a great porch with a view.
Very clean, well stocked & charming cabin. I will definitely stay there again. Highly recommend it!
Loved this cabin because it was clean & well stocked. Absolutely loved the deck and watching the little birds on the feeder. It was very convenient to where we needed to go. We went to the Rowland reunion and always visit the Rowland Cemetary, which was close by. My Mother was a Rowland. We had a great time & really enjoyed the cabin & deck. I just wish there was a light over the kitchen sink, a little to dark for me when I’m cooking. But no big deal. I definitely recommend this cabin to all my family & friends. Easy to get to and we loved it.
We had an amazing time getting away from the city here! We came to Murphy to explore the area and indulge in some water sports. I would highly recommend. We look forward to coming back!
Love where it located at and the pice and quiet
Had a great rest that was needed and wanted would love to do it agen
Wonderful family get away!
Cabin was well furnished, clean and beautiful. One small problem with the shower but the owner had it fixed within a few hours. Very responsive to my call!
We had a fantastic time at Joe and Jen’s lookouts cabin in the mountains! The cabin had everything we needed and was centrally located to many activities! We thoroughly enjoyed quiet morning coffee on the porch taking in the valley view and grilling on the porch in the evenings while watching the fireflies float by. Joe and Jen were wonderful hosts and super responsive to any questions we had. Can’t wait to go back!!
