Kauhale Makai (Village by the Sea) is a beautiful beachfront, 169-unit condominium development in central Kihei. Unit #632 with 2 beds, 2 ensuite baths, overlooks the ocean, pool and courtyard. The Master bedroom features a King bed, the Guest bedroom features a Queen bed.

Mix yourself a Mai Tai in the fully equipped kitchen, and view pods of Humpback whales migrating from Alaska (when in season) or take in a stunning Hawaiian sunset from your private lanai. The condo is equipped with TV with Cable, Netflix and a Play Station, WiFi, local phone service and central air conditioning. Enjoy cool ceramic tile throughout and granite counter tops. This is a beautifully furnished unit, sure to make your stay all the more memorable!

Kauhale Makai is a quiet family oriented property that offers air conditioning, a nice pool area with Jacuzzi & children's wading pool, gas barbecues, saunas, putting green, shuffleboard, laundry facilities and free parking.

Kauhale Makai is centrally located and within a mile of shops, restaurants and activities. It is also a few minutes from the championship golf courses of Wailea and Makena. The ocean front property borders Waipuilani County park where you will find six tennis courts, two shuffleboard courts, and one volleyball court.


Starting September 2017, the Kauhale Makai Resort (Village by the Sea) will begin a major two year-long infrastructure repairs and improvements project. During this time the noise and disruption will vary depending on where the property is. We can't guarantee this unit will be directly affected because notification of work is only given a few days before it's started.

I only gave it one star so I could comment. I will never stay there again. We love Maui and have stayed at much nicer units for a lot less money.

Owner's Response: Aloha Kathy, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, greatly appreciate your feedback. I tried to contact you the day after your arrival, but never got a response. I would have been happy to correct these concerns during your stay. The lights in the kitchen are tricky, the dimmer switch is often the problem when it is left on the "off" or "low" setting. I double checked after your departure, the dimmer was in the off position, it works fine. I will discard the broken beach toys, the owner provided them as "extras" for guest to use which are not required, sorry about that. I am concerned that you found the condo to be dirty. Our cleaners are very thorough and the unit is inspected after they are done as well. I will share your comments with the cleaners to assure we are not missing anything. You traveled during Peak Season here in the islands. The prices are much higher during this time of the year. Maui is a world vacation destination, unfortunately it is expensive here, no matter what time of the year. I regret that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I would have gladly taken care of these concerns during your stay, if I was advised. Please do not hesitate to contact me if your travel plans should bring you back to Maui. Great apartment for a family close to beaches and town

We stayed in unit 632 for 12 days over New Years with our three children. The unit has been nicely renovated and is very clean, with a fully equipped kitchen and gorgeous views of the ocean from the lanai. The property has a great pool area with BBQs which we used many times. The unit has also been stocked with beach chairs, toys, umbrellas, etc that we greatly appreciated for our beach day trips. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Our only complaint is that the resort does not turn on the hot tub until 4pm each day, regardless of the weather. We had a few days that were rainy and overcast and would've loved to be able to enjoy the pool/hot tub facilities but they were too cold. All in all an excellent vacation. Thanks!

Nice place with a pride of ownership

Even though the property is older, there is a nice feel to this place. Always someone maintaining the place daily. Our unit was very nice being on the corner and we were very comfortable sharing with another couple without it being intrusive.The unit also had plenty of ocean toys,chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear, but bring a blow dryer if you need one. Laundry facilities on every floor. I loved hearing the wind and ocean. And I found the pool right below to be very nice. I loved watching the different people and families having fun and the BBQ area was tidy and we had fun meeting people there while cooking. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely Condo, Fantastic management, wonderful stay!

From Beginning to end our Condo Resort management company, 5star Maui Resorts, was wonderful with every detail in renting this lovely condo. We had to find a place quickly, to sadly arrive for a memorial service, which our agent, Mindy, was more than helpful with. She initially spoke with my niece, who's family lives in Maui; she was calm & pleasant with every question, to make sure we were comfortable, while another woman in the company, Sophia, did not hesitate to gather up some left behind clothes & send them back to us. Even the folks at the front office of the condo were wonderful. The condo was newly renovated, VERY clean, nicely designed & fully equipped with everything needed ,while away from home ( including the outdoor grill) . The view from the balcony, LR, & master suite , overlooking the beach, pool, & ocean was amazingly gorgeous, with the sunsets over the water each evening absolutely beautiful. Kauhale Makai was a perfect place for our family to gather with our Maui relatives, who lived close by, to reflect & celebrate our loved one, we lost...We would love to come back to Maui (& hopefully this condo), calling upon Mindy ,once again, for her help. We really appreciated this lovely condo & how smoothly our stay went definitely put us at ease. Thank you to Mindy with 5Star Maui Resorts, for being sensitive to our situation, making a challenging week enjoyable. We are most grateful to you and will definitely be back to Maui's paradise!
