Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, Oak Lodge is host to travelers the year 'round. The calendar is totally up to date, so be sure to get a week or two just for you and your family!

Can you imagine yourself surrounded in this solidly built Abe Lincoln Log Home - with a wall of windows overlooking the cove, whimsical yet contemporary decor, and with an open kitchen and living area topped by an enormous cathedral ceiling. The lighting design of the cathedral ceiling is spectacular - a delight at night!

After playing all day either on sun-drenched Kerr Lake with your own boat or one from the rental firms in town, or on a guided canoe trip, out shopping in nearby furniture craftsman towns, or visiting an historic Southern Plantation home, the family returns to Oak Lodge. In the gourmet kitchen everything is pleasing: stainless steel appliances, a double-sided refrigerator with an ice dispenser, a host of pots, pans, mixers, even that the exhaust vent for the stove raises and lowers from the countertop is delightful. While preparing your favorite meal, laughter fills Oak Lodge as the whole family shares about the day's events - these are the times that memories are made of!

After a great dinner, you pop open your favorite beverage, and with a full tummy, it's time for cards. Maybe it's time to sit alone on the Juliette Balcony to catch up on that book you've been carrying around for a few weeks. It might just be nap time on the hammock out on the deck, overlooking the cove ... your sweetheart could join you for that nap because the hammock is built to hold two adults - up to 650 pounds. It's your call at Oak Lodge.

Oak Lodge, built in 2008, is a 3,000 square foot, two-story walkout log home situated on a private cove on Kerr Lake. The home is nestled on a plot of land so that it maximizes the view of the cove, has a paved driveway and plenty of parking at the top of the driveway for two more cars and a trailer.

A perfectly decorated, spacious and clean home just waiting for you and your family. Log home, lake-front living at its finest.

On the main level, the grand living room with wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks the wooded areas and private cove. You'll also find over 1400 square feet of outdoor deck space perfect for your family and friends; two private, screened-in porches provide - the perfect place for catching up with each other about the day's events. Downstairs is perfect for the kids and the kid in you! Large play area, plenty of room to kick back, TV, four sets of french doors leading to the expansive patio overlooking the water.

Did we mention the living room has a large HDTV with DVR and DVD player, the MBR has a TV, the second main-floor bedroom has a TV, and the downstairs living room has a TV. All TVs have over 200 stations of programming.

The Master Bedroom has a two-person, two shower-head, all slate tile shower - be sure to take time to enjoy!

All beds are high-quality, heavenly comfortable beds.

To make your relaxing, high quality family vacation even easier, we now offer credit card payment plans spreading your payments out over three easy payments with our new Easy-3-Payment plan through VRBO. As an additional level of assurance, when paying by credit card, you may opt to purchase Trip Cancellation Insurance through VRBO. So, relax, it's all taken care of, and your fun-in-the-sun, lake-front vacation is ready at Oak Lodge.

About Rick Haffner

I am an American Sign Language Interpreter. When not working, I like escaping to Kerr Lake and getting out on the boat and jet skis. I have a dog and she goes with me everywhere, especially on vacation!

Rick Haffner purchased this house in 2008

Why Rick Haffner chose Clarksville

We built Oak Lodge in 2008 because we wanted to have a vacation lake-house at Kerr Lake to share with others. It's just three hours from our home in Charlotte, NC, which is close enough to get away on a weekend, but far enough from the busy life so we know we really did get away. We also wanted it to be a log home because the feeling a log home evokes is unlike a regular house - all the wood provides a charm like nothing else can. The property we chose to build the house is on a cove, which is important because we wanted to be able to swim safely, and have our boat not be subjected to winds and wakes.

What makes this house unique

At Oak Lodge, we like the porches and the rustic luxury the house exudes. When we are there, we cook out on the grill a lot, and we enjoy going to Los Banditos for excellent Mexican food when the mood to cook just isn't there for us.

Clarksville, Kerr Lake, and the surrounding area offers plenty of outdoor activities, historic sites, restaurants, antique shops, and an enormous lake with 800 miles of shoreline!

Do not miss getting out on the water - no boat? No problem, we can hook you up with a local rental company.

For a night out, Cooper's Landing is a local restaurant run by a couple - Les and Nicole Cooper. On Friday nights in the summer, they will often have local or regional musicians play on the patio while you dine on some of the best steaks you have ever had! If you miss a Friday, no worries - their food is delicious, and the house they have converted into the restaurant is unique. Go!

History buffs do not miss Prestwould Plantation, a National Historic Landmark, as it is the most intact and best documented plantation surviving in Southside Virginia. Most notably, the site has one of the largest collections of slave writings in the country.

This place should be renamed "Catfish Cove."

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six (two adults, two teens, and two preteens) were looking for somewhere to spend our summer vacation that appealed to everyone. Our eldest son wanted all the comforts of home with some privacy away from his siblings, our younger son wanted to fish, and our two girls wanted somewhere they could swim and relax. Oak Lodge ending up being just what we were looking for. The lodge itself was beautiful and much larger than it looked from the outside. Our oldest son enjoyed having his own bedroom and bathroom, wireless internet, and satellite t.v. Our girls enjoyed sharing the basement bedroom and were excited to each get their own queen bed, while our other son loved having the rest of the basement to himself, complete with ping pong table, tv, and foosball table. The kitchen/dining/living room common area was gorgeous and made a great place to gather for a game of Monopoly or family dinner grilled out on the gorgeous deck. While the lodge does not have a direct view of the lake, we loved the peaceful privacy that the woods behind the house provided. Our dog enjoyed the open grassy area in the back and of course loved exploring the woods with us and jumping off the dock into the lake. The lodge is situated on a cove just off of the main lake, offering a nice quiet place to swim together as a family during the day and to fish together from the dock at night. To our pleasant surprise, the fishing from the dock was absolutely amazing. As we made our way down to the water after a late evening meal, just as the sun was setting, we soon discovered that the cove was teeming with hungry catfish eagerly awaiting their next meal. It was not unusual in the least to find a 8-10 pound catfish nibbling at a simple night crawler after only 1-2 casts out into the cove. Next time we come, we are bringing bigger rods and stronger line, because these guys gave us a run for our money. After wearing them down, we were able to reel them in for a quick pic before once again releasing them back into their rightful home. Young and old alike thoroughly enjoyed pulling both catfish and blue gill out of these waters, but the size and number of catfish was a pleasant surprise for sure. The owner was very easy to work with and was quick to resolve any issues we had (the satellite tv was out when we arrived, but he had it working by early the next morning). Thank you for a great summer vacation...we are looking forward to coming back next year!

Perfect romantic log cabin fall getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I ( and fur baby ) stayed for the weekend to attend Clarksville Fall Festival.

The log cabin is absolutely beautiful! It was very clean upon arrival and the smell of the wood when you entered the door was enticing!

The house is beautifully decorated with everything we needed. The porches were amazing and there were many swings and a hammock to enjoy. If you love the rustic, log cabin vibe with modern amenities, this house is definitely the one!

The master bath shower was devine with beautiful slate tile work and double shower heads!

The finished basement was huge and perfect for a large family trip. Plenty of space to spread out and there is a foosball and ping pong table for indoor fun. We will definitely be back with our children!

While there is not a clear shot view of the cove, the trees and surrounding wooded views were gorgeous! Perfectly suited for the log cabin. And the dock was just a short relaxing walk through the woods. You can still see the cove from the upper deck which is nice.

The festival was fun. We did some Christmas shopping from the vendors, checked out the local shops ( a must ) and stayed for the band that night. What a blast! I just adore small town USA. Everyone in Clarksville is so friendly!

This cabin would be perfect for a week long family vacation and it is also perfect for a romantic fall getaway!!

Thank you Rick for sharing your house with us. Once again we were very sad to leave Clarksville. We adore your town! We passed the bridge on the way out and I feel like I left a little piece of my heart behind. Maybe someday we will have a home of our own in Clarksville on the lake. For now, we will continue to enjoy yours ;-)

very nice!

  • 5 of 5

The property was as advertised...well maintained, clean and comfortable. Rick sent us all kinds of suggestions and recommendations for the area that were very helpful. The kitchen was well appointed and I appreciated the starter soaps and paper products. This trip was just my husband and myself, but there would have been plenty of room for my daughters and their babies.(next trip) The lake was lovely and we rented a pontoon boat for one day to explore the area. Don't miss Occoneechee State Park, (one of the nicest state parks I've ever been to). Unfortunately we had to depart a day earlier than planned (illness), but I hope we will return again. It would be helpful to have information posted about where to take trash.

Great fall Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Oak Lodge was charming, spacious and clean. We spent a lovely Thanksgiving there with five adults and our dog. The property was well-equipped, even for cooking thanksgiving dinner, and well maintained. Lots of nice hiking trails at the nearby state park. We were sorry to leave!

Live, laugh, love... family time

  • 5 of 5

Good food, good company and grand babies! Perfect setting for our family gathering! Oak Lodge has a social kitchen... we took turns cooking for each other in a well appointed kitchen. The toddlers had fun playing downstairs when it rained. Plenty of room for all of us. Rented kayaks and spent time exploring the lake. Believe in leaving every rental better than when we arrived...so only request would be a new broom! Thanks for a lovely vacation!

Oak Lodge Getaway

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at Oak Lodge for a long weekend. If you're looking for a place with a view of the water, this isn't it. There is a dock with boat access if you have one, but you can barely see the tiny cove from one end of the porch. Nothing like the view from other houses just down the block. The trees were very full and green, so it was still a lovely view; just a different view than we were expecting from the description online. The house and grounds themselves are quiet and beautiful. The owner was very accommodating however, and inside the house is spotless! The housekeeping service is excellent. There's even an entire finished basement with direct access to the yard for the dog. Plenty of rocking chairs for the back porch, which is a very relaxing place to sip your coffee in the early morning while waiting for sunrise. Oak Lodge was also perfect for my dog, who is energetic and vocal, with lots of room to run and enough space between neighbors to make as much of a ruckus as she wanted. The one complaint from my family, other than the lack of water view, was the need to buy our own paper supplies. As my father put it, for the price we were paying you'd think they'd at least stock some extra toilet paper and a roll of paper towels somewhere. It's not like they're lacking for storage space.

And a note about the area: This has no bearing on my rating or review of Oak Lodge itself. First I'll repeat that inside the house is spotless. The housekeeping service is excellent and the owners keep the house in excellent working order, but outside... well, the lot is wooded so spiders are unavoidable. They're small and harmless but they are numerous and will take over the porch and doorways if you let them. This isn't anything the owners can control, so if you want to sit outside just be prepared to clear away a lot of spider webs. After clearing the webs the first day, we brought our cleaned chairs inside overnight so we wouldn't have to clean them again the next morning. And we brought them inside when we left, for the next visitors.

Owner's Response: Andrea - Thank you for giving such a great review of Oak Lodge! We do provide a starter supply of paper products consisting of two rolls of toilet paper for each bathroom, and three rolls of paper towels for the kitchen. If the cleaning crew missed setting that up for you, please let me know and we'll make that right on your next trip back! We want your trip to be a 5 Star trip! Yes, the spider and bug families have lived for many generations on Kerr Lake - they love the verdant, wooded, lake-side areas just as much as we do. We appreciate families, like yours, who just brush the spider and bug families aside when they move onto the deck instead of demanding insecticides that destroy the natural ecosystem! Living together is what will keep the land and the lake healthy for generations to come. Rick
