Great space, close to lifts and sun peaks village
Experience with owner was great, very helpful !
Great spot for family of 14
We just got back from a two weeks stay - we rented the top part of the house for our 3 daughters and their families and downstairs for us, the grandparents.
The six grandkids - between eight and a half and three and a half all stayed upstairs although we did have bunk beds for five downstairs with us.
We walked up to the top of Sunburst Drive each day and walked or skied down the hill to the village. At night we could ski home - but with the grandkids we generally walked home.
Everything you need is in the house - and one big advantage being this side of the main road into the village is that it does get the sun.
We did have unseasonably warm weather (and lack of snowfalls) but the blue sky days and -10C (coldest) was fantastic for the grand kids and their ski lessons.
Thoroughly enjoyed Sun Peaks, the house was great and the host, Brad very quick to respond with any queries.
All of us have voted our stay as the best group holiday we have had
So happy to have been able to have your group stay with us! Big family trips are what drew us to Sun Peaks from the beginning so the smiling family photo you shared was awesome. Safe travels home and please know we'd be lucky to have you back again some day!
Unexpected Sleepy Hollows Chalet Down Experience
Unfortunately this was not our best VRBO experience. The owner, Brad, seems kind, is responsive and there are good things about his place. House location is good, WiFi works, the hot tub is professionally maintained and we had the basics we needed. The pictures posted in VRBO are pretty accurate, however, when you are paying $570 CAD / $430 USD a night, you have certain lodging expectations even during peak season.
Our first night at Sleepy Hollows Chalet Down was terrible. When we arrived there was only 1 bath towel, 1 kitchen towel, no extra paper towels and 2 rolls of toilet paper. After texting Brad he resolved that quickly. Arriving on New Year's Eve we expected to hear some celebrating, but not the level of partying that went on above us. After 4-5 hours of exceptionally loud music and people pounding above us, we finally texted Brad and had to have a conversation with the renter's above us. At one point those renters even urinated over their deck into the snow by our patio. While we know this is not directly Brad's fault, he describes his rental as a non-party house and that had set our expectations and it's what we paid for. We were extremely disappointed that we had brought our kids to what felt like a college party house. So much so that we considered driving home the next day and tried to find other places to stay in Sun Peaks.
The remainder of our trip was quieter and we were able to get some sleep, but you do feel like you are residing in a basement. You can hear the guests above especially while in the master bedroom. It has the basics, but it's lacking warmth. There isn't a lot of cozy seating even for a family of 4. The chairs that are available, have tears covered up with tape and aren't the most comfortable. We never could get the fireplace to work and didn't want to mess around with the pilot light. Even if we had taken the time to figure it out, based on the furniture layout it would have been hard to enjoy it. When cooking everything is very old (only 3 cooking knives in the block), the bath towels we received reminded us of old gym towels and we were glad that we had packed our own bed pillows and beach towels for the hot tub. These are all small things, but they add up and it's not what you expect when you are paying hundreds per night. I do believe these are all things that can be easily corrected for future guests.
Sadly our stay in Sleepy Hollows Chalet Down wasn't a positive one for our family.
Thank you for the feedback. It is unfortunate that your take away wasn't as positive as we strive for! There was a miss-communication between the cleaners and as such the final sweep of the chalet didn't happen in time for your arrival. This resulted in the missing linens. I'm terribly sorry for this and once advised, we had this corrected as quickly as possible. This time of year is so very busy and they are all working so hard to turn rentals around (working on holidays etc) that I'm certainly not wanting to place the blame on them. I can wear that. My local contact was on his way to you within 20 minutes, unfortunately in their rush to replace what was missed, they pulled from the wrong area of the storage room and this is why you ended up with the poor quality linens. Had you let me know, I could have corrected this immediately for you! I do believe that you were able to locate the drawer full of additional toilet paper in the bathroom.
The heat in the unit is a tricky one, what some would say is cold is too hot for others. As such, I set the unit at a comfortable level using internet connected Nest thermostats. This lets me keep an eye on the temp while not being in the unit of course. The fireplace then adds that extra level of cozy heat. I did have to have to have the pilot light re lit after your stay and could have arranged this for you as I know some aren't comfortable with doing this. My local contact is happy to do on the off chance its required. The cleaners now confirm its OK on every final visit.
I am terribly sorry again for the first nights noise. As you noted, it is out of my control and we try to screen and book as best as we can to ensure this doesn't happen (families over college students). Unfortunately New Years Eve has many (normally quiet) guests making way more noise than they would typically. It's my understanding that there was a 80y old grandmother involved in the noisy dancing that was keeping you awake. To be fair, I suspect that noise should be expected in any resort town on New Years. You texted about the noise at 12:20am. I will ensure that future guests have a level of expectation for nights like New Years!
Thank you for letting me know about the missing items, we had a guest staying in both units before you and perhaps some knives etc migrated upstairs, I will have that investigated!
I'm sorry that your stay wasn't as you had hoped, I'd love to have you back for a better trip and I'm happy to sweeten the deal!
Cozy place with responsive owner
Nice downstairs unit that is quiet, private and cozy. Kitchen is extremely well appointed with everything you probably need. They had coffee, filters, spices, and extra paper towels. Hot tub was well-maintained and nestled in a corner of the outdoor deck with trees around it. Brad quickly responded to any questions or concerns we had but was great about respecting our privacy. Only reason it was not five star is because it is not ski-in and ski-out (OK, so I am lazy). However, it was about a two minute drive to parking lots at base of lifts and an easy 10 minute walk to heart of the village. We would come again.
Sleepy Hollows was perfect!
The suite at sleepy hollows was a perfect location and good layout for 4 people. Everything you need and you can either do a two minute drive or ski. The owners are lovely and went above and beyond to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience. Would totally recommend!
So happy you and your guests had a great stay Kelly. We'd love to have you back again on the next one!
Cozy, ski in ski out right next to the mountains
Went up with 6 friends last weekend for a ski weekend getaway and had a blast. The Sleepy Hollows Chalet was perfect for us, full equipped kitchen for dinner, living room to hangout and play games in, and best of all a hot tub ready to go for after a long day of skiing. Brad was staying upstairs with his kids and was very helpful and welcoming. The two units are well separated so we hardly even knew anyone else was there. Would highly recommend and we plan on renting again soon!
So happy you had such a great time. As you mentioned there is a perfect separation of the two units. We hardly heard you guys as well. Your crew was so tidy and you even got the laundry set off. Great guests!
