NEARBY: If you need supplies, basic grocery items, gasoline or a huge hand-dipped ice cream cone, the Michigamme Market is less than 10 minutes away. They have a decent supply of groceries, including meat and produce, and household goods, but if you need a full grocery store you can head East 30 miles to Jubilee Foods . If you're hungry but don't feel like cooking, there is the Snowshoe Inn that is only a 6 -minute drive and the Cozy Inn that is a 10-minute drive. Both are small bars/restaurants that serve lunch and dinner. The Snowshoe Inn has a larger variety of food, with their own smoked pulled pork sandwich that is amazing, and the Cozy Inn has a delicious fish fry and big, juicy burgers. If you're willing to drive a little further (30 minutes), you can stop in at Jerzi's 41 Sports Bar & Grill to get a steak or pizza or one of their many other fantastic options. And if it's breakfast you are looking for you can't get a better one than at the Hilltop in L'Anse (a 30-minute drive West) where they also have massive cinnamon rolls that are sinfully delicious!!
EXPLORING THE UP: The location is a perfect base camp if you'd like to get out and explore all that the UP has to offer. To the west, CANYON FALLS is only 20 minutes. The hike in is a beautiful 1-mile walk over level terrain where you will see a series of rapids and small waterfalls. The river flows 30' over a large chute of smooth black rock into a box canyon, and is known as the Grand Canyon of Michigan. Another 40-minutes east will bring you to HOUGHTON, home of Michigan Tech University and another hour north is COPPER HARBOR, which is the northern most spot in Michigan. To the East it is a quick 10-minute drive to the boat launch on LAKE MICHIGAMME, which is a 4,300 acre lake and is the home of VAN RIPER STATE PARK. If you continue another 35 minutes you will be in the heart of MARQUETTE, which has wonderful dining options, shopping, biking, skiing and many other things to do. Head towards MUNISING , which is another 45 minutes and you can kayak the AUTRAIN RIVER or visit the historic PICTURED ROCKS and MINERS FALLS (or any of the other 16 waterfalls). From there it's it's an hour to Michigan's largest natural spring known as KITCH-ITI-KIPI, where you can see 10,000 gallons a minute gushing from the limestone 40 feet below the surface.....a must see for anyone exploring the UP! The list could go on and on, so if you need any advice or have any questions about the surrounding area the owners would be more than happy to help.
