Hi! Over 20 years ago, my parents began to plan and build their dream home. This became the Irish Eagle. They loved to host parties and entertain guests. When health issues brought them closer to town, we didn't want to lose their legacy. Instead, we decided to keep it in the family and share it with others as a vacation rental. My name is Susan and this is the Irish Eagle, named for our Irish heritage and the Eagles you can spot over the lake. We have two young children and they enjoy the cabin just as much as we do. We are confident that your family will feel the same. My husband, Keith, works in technology while I work as the front desk secretary of an area middle school. We have two girls, Presley and Emmy, ages 11 and 8. My husband is from Texas and while I was born in West Virginia, I grew up here in Tennessee just south of Nashville. When we can, we enjoy visiting the Irish Eagle as a family for our own vacations. We also enjoy board games, going to the movies, escape games, roller skating, video games, painting, and other craft projects. When we do get to the cabin (as we call it), we like to explore and drive to the nearby areas to see what kind of local shopping, dining, attractions we can find. If you find something your family especially enjoys while staying with us, please share it with me so we can visit there on our next run! We realized after we purchased the home that all our previous trips had mostly been just to go on the water and we hadn't explored the area so we still have a LOT to learn! We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!
Why Susan Clark chose Pickett County
We love the small town feel of Byrdstown. The marina is less than a mile away and you can rent any type of boat you'd like. I've worked hard to cultivate the type of atmosphere that I would like on vacation... mostly because we still use this home for vacation! My ideal environment - Surrounded by nature but with all the luxuries of home. I think we have provided that for you at The Eagle. When I step in the home, I remember summers here with my family when we owned our own pontoon. Waking in the morning to a fresh cooked breakfast, the house smelled of sunscreen and pancakes. I can still see my dad standing at the stove when I walked up from sleeping downstairs. My mom was in charge of organizing for the day - packing towels and cd's for the boat while we loaded the cooler with all the drinks and snacks we would need. A short ride down the winding road to the marina and we were off. Fishermen lined the rocks to the ramp where our boat.. a teal pontoon.. lived. We'd roll up her covers, wipe down the seats, put on our life jackets and off we'd go. Nothing beats the feeling when you pass the "No Wake Zone" buoys and can "give er some gas!" We would return home just before dusk and walk in to the clean smell of aloe and fresh laundry. Everyone took showers and played cards on the same dining room table that is still in use today. We listened to music and told stories and jokes while my dad prepared dinner for everyone. On lake days, it was usually a family favorite like BBQ chicken and potato salad. We would eat... laugh... and hit the cool, crisp, white sheets early. We bought the home to preserve this for my family and to share it with YOUR family. These sweet summer memories stay with us a lifetime. We had Christmas celebrations here. Thanksgiving turkeys prepared in this kitchen and shared with friends. The Irish Eagle is to be shared year round! Every season holds its own kind of magic here at Dale Hollow.
What makes this House unique
Our home is unique in that there is literally something for every member of your group! If you come as a family, you may enjoy the family friendly Netflix, extensive selection of board games, the pool table, the foosball, the Play Station 3, or bringing movie rentals to watch on the DVD player. My kids love the "bubble tub" (Jacuzzi) and the hot tub outside (ask us how to set on a lower temp). They love to blow bubbles on the outside porch. We have the BEST driveway for sidewalk chalk! Those with babies will find the swings very convenient for rockers, even big kids like to rock in them. Boat rental options at the area marinas are endless, and the house even has enough parking for you to bring your own if you choose! If you come on an adult only vacation, you have access to the marina and all the boating options, the hot tub, pool table, Netflix, etc.. in addition, there are wood burning fireplaces on both floors, a grill that operates on both charcoal and propane (provided), a fire pit... too much to list. In virtually every room, there is a place for relaxation. You will have complete privacy in this wooded paradise.
