About the property

Sleeps 6; 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths:

Rio Casita (Little River House) is located in the middle of a beautifully wooded acre of land on the pristine Blanco River. The clear, cool, spring fed river is ideal for kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying nature. Drive the short three miles along River Road that flanks the Blanco into Wimberley, and take a shopping spree through some of the most unique shops you will see anywhere.

This is a very romantic spot with plenty of privacy. The kids will love it also. Walk down the easy sloping hill from your back porch and directly into the river. Great swimming and wading and a superior place to enjoy an ice cold adult beverage. It's all here, come and see!

After fun in the sun and river, head back to the house to enjoy all the ammenities: outdoor grill, great backporch for hanging out, gourmet kitchen - everything you need, except the food. When the sun sets the fire flys appear. It is magical to lay in the hammock and watch them swirl around you.

About Connie

My husband and I fell in love with Wimberley. When we found Rio Casita, we just had to purchase it. We love being there and use it as a family get away. We love the quietness, the wild life and the easy pace that this place offers. We are very happy that we can share all of that with you.

Connie purchased this house in 2006

Why Connie chose Wimberley

We love being on the water and the Blanco is just right for us and our dogs. Our golden retriever thinks he is in Heaven when he is there.

What makes this house unique

Relax, relax, relax. Lay in the hammock, pull a chair out into the middle of the river; read; walk; listen to nature or just sit on the back porch. A unique place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. However, if you demand a little more activity in your life, the Village of Wimberley is just 2 miles down the road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Connie

We loved our stay:) Thank you for sharing your tranquil casita. We ended up not bringing the dogs since we were only staying for 2 nights. We were running late getting out of Houston and just wanted to scoot out with no trouble -- after we arrived I felt so guilty!!! They would have loved it. We were able to have a wonderfully relaxing weekend though. I'm attaching a photo of Henry and I relaxing in your great hammock overlooking the river. Later that evening, we went out to the river at 1AM. We were out there with 3 or 4 deer, a friendly skunk (although he made me a tad nervous) and the glorious stars ----- something we really can't see in Houston most of the time:/ We'll be back and hopefully will be taking the dogs along.

Thanks again,

Rio Casita gets its water from a well. From time to time there is an odor. It is not always present. A new water filtration system was installed in August of 2015 to try to eliminate the odor. It seems to be working. We want you to know that the water is safe. If you think this will bother you, please do not rent Rio Casita. As I said we have taken steps to eliminate this, but I will not guarantee that there will be no odor. Ground water contains both sulfur and iron, among other minerals, which can seasonally vary in concentration. Water systems may also contain varying amounts and types of harmless bacteria which consume these two mineral compounds producing a rotten egg type of odor. Flushing at the faucet until the odor disappears is the immediate remedy to this problem. Most of the time the odor occurs only in the hot water. In the Wimberley area, the EPA does not consider iron oxide or hydrogen sulfide gas dissolved in ground water as a risk.

The perfect family retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We brought our two daughters (ages 16 and 12) along with their two friends. The first thing they said as we pulled up is “the house is so cute!” After oohing and aahing as they walked through the house, we walked down to the river and took in the breathtaking view. Shortly after arriving, we were all in the crystal clear river. Since the river is nice and shallow, my husband and I were able to just sit in the middle of the river and watch the girls play and explore. I personally enjoyed the colorful dragonflies that liked to land on me while I sat in the river.

Every day, the deer, turkeys, birds, butterflies, and fireflies would come to visit us in the backyard. We loved watching them from the porch and even from the kitchen windows while we were making meals. The wildlife was definitely a highlight for the girls. We even encountered two goats on River Road on a daily basis. The day we were leaving, the goats approached our vehicle and put their heads through the open windows for the girls to pet them. It was like they were saying goodbye! We also saw turtles sunbathing on rocks along the river.

Throughout our stay, the girls kept saying “this is so much fun!” Coming from teens and preteens, that is a huge compliment! We all want to come back on a regular basis. It was truly one of our best vacations! Thank you Busby family for sharing your home with us!

Better Than Advertised

  • 5 of 5

Rio Casita is even better than the pictures let on! We loved our stay here. Really comfortable accommodations for the whole family. Convenient access to the river is a huge plus. No issues with the "smelly water" from previous reviews. Great place for the family (adults, kids, dogs, etc.)! We've stayed somewhere different every year in Wimberley, but this place is worth returning to!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the compliments. We strive to make the house comfortable and inviting. It is difficult to take credit for the river, but it is very nice and relaxing...whether you sit in it, or beside it on the bank, or just watch it from the back porch. We took care of the smelly water issue, so no more worries there. I will look forward to your return visit.

Wonderful, Peaceful Week!

  • 5 of 5

Loved, loved, loved our stay at Rio Casita! Traveled with my husband, 20 year old son, 19 year old daughter, and our German Shepherd, Bruce - who loved it as much, or more, than we did. Rio Casita is beautifully decorated and has all you need for a wonderful, relaxing stay. The river is shallow, warm, and calm and we sat by it or in it every afternoon into the evening. We enjoyed watching the many deer, a variety of birds, hawks, three resident turkeys, and we even saw a fox. I had planned to do nothing more than relax, but the family had other ideas. We spent time in downtown Wimberley, San Marcos, Austin, and visited a couple of wineries - so much to do and everything is so close. I wish I had booked more days!

This was a perfect vacation spot and I would love to return two or three times a year!!!

Owner's Response: Rio Casita and Wimberley has something to offer for all ages and all fur buddies as well. The beauty of the natural environment cannot be adequately explained, but very pleasant to experience. It is hard to beat an afternoon enjoying the river...both man and fur babies. The location cannot be beaten...Austin, SanAntonio, Dripping Springs and SanMarcos, just to name a few locations are just a short drive away.
