Great town, nice old Florida home
I tend to overshare with reviews but I do this because when I'm looking for homes to rent, the more information that I have to base my decisions, the better! With that being said, I hope this review helps you make your decision...
This an older Florida style home but don't let the landscaping deter you from renting as the inside has everything you need for a relaxing trip in this quaint eclectic town. There is a small floating dock for you to moor your boat. There are kayaks and bikes in the garage for use which was a great way to get around and see the island. Everything is within walking or biking distance from the house. We walked and rode into the main town strip several times. The neighborhood is safe and all of the neighbors are very friendly. If you bring a pet, there is room in the front and back for it to run around. Just be aware that there are several flowering weeds that are home to small bees in the grass. They will not bother you and fly off as soon as you walk but if you're extremely allergic, this might be an issue.
The pictures of the outside of the house don't do the inside justice. The inside of the house was very clean and are as shown on VRBO. We cooked most of our meals and we had everything we needed, even a grill. We utilized the extra room, which was made into a room from a portion of the garage. There is only 1 TV in the house (in the living room) not a deal breaker but something to take note if you are use to having a TV in each room. Furniture is older but clean and in decent shape. The AC worked well throughout the house; we never had an issue with being hot. The washer and dryer is older and pretty loud but it did the trick. There is a door you can close to drown out the sound.
Make sure to read your rental agreement for check in/out instructions. The property manager John meets you for check in. This isn't an issue but something I haven't done through VRBO before and assumed there would be a key or lock box. I missed this on the agreement but everything worked out. The town shuts down pretty early, it may have been the time of year but if you want later dining, there are restaurants about a 10-15 minute drive east. There is also a Publix grocery store close by to stock up on everything.
Overall my family and I enjoyed this little town and will definitely be back. We fished most of the time but had a good time walking around the town and the neighborhood, it was a relaxing trip!
Great vacation location and wonderful house!
House was cute, clean and in a great location! Loved the space, the floating dock and screened in back porch. House has been recently remodeled and is really lovely. We would definitely rent it again.
Low Key & Relaxing
A great getaway spot for some much needed sunshine and R&R. The house was very clean and comfortable. Right on the water, the screened in patio was a great spot to have breakfast or read a book. Kayaked and fished right off the dock. Kayak didn't come with the house, we brought it, but the house did provide two bicycles which we used to ride up to breakfast. Quiet neighborhood, very walkable, with a quaint main drag of a few shops & restaurants (most with waterfront seating and live music). The house was well-equipped with everything we needed. John was very responsive and helpful.
For a 2 BR home, it is spacious. Recent renovations were well done. The home is immaculate. Everything is as stated in the HomeAway presentation. Even a carport so I left the top down on the Wangler and did not worry about rain or vandals. Plus, this is a very secure / quiet neighborhood. The property manager is responsive and professional. We loved the town of Matlacha (pron Mat-La-Shay). It is funky, water views everywhere and at least three excellent restaurants being the Blue Dog, Berts, and Hooked. If there is a drawback, it is 45 minute drive to the airport, Jet Blue Park, Sanibel, and Ft. Myers Beach. There are a lot of things to do right there, bike rentals, kayak rentals, etc. Including tie your boat behind the house in the back yard canal or just go fishing or crabbing. The house is 10 minutes from Publix, Wynn-Dixie, CVS, & Target. We would go again.
Clean little house on cool funky Island
I'd never heard of Matlacha before but our little family LOVED it. Just my style, many waterfront dive bars, great seafood places, fun stuff. Would definitely go back.
Clean and newly renovated kitchen and bath. Well appointed and comfortable.
