About the property

Harassed by owner's son

  • 1 of 5

My family and I were having a nice vacation until the owner's son showed up at the cottage. Apparently his mother lives at the entrance of the property and they didn't like how I was driving and instead of asking me to be more mindful he showed up at the cottage and used offensive language. Then when he was leaving he picked up a rifle off his driver's seat and held it up so I could see it. Between his demeanor and the weapon it felt like he was trying to intimidate me. The whole situation felt hostile and we got up and left early the next morning. I certainly would not go back as these people seem paranoid and they are armed. An armed response to a perceived slight is incredibly hostile. Maine is a lovely place and I'd like to go again but I'll try to find a safer place to stay with my family next time.

The cottage was everything we wanted. It was located right by the ocean and very quiet and private. We loved going fishing and taking our kayak out. We all had a fantastic time, even our poppy. We will definitely go back!

A little piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to stay if you want privacy and quiet. The cabin is cozy and clean and it has everything you might need (except for coffee filters and lobster crackers). Some of the wildlife we enjoyed seeing were rabbits, red squirrels, porcupines, dear, seals and bald eagles. The whole property is beautiful and there is a nice feeling of peace and serenity to it. We wish we could come here more often, but unfortunately it took us 10 hrs to get here from central New York. Thanks for having us!

Beautiful location, nice cabin

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay in this cabin. It was perfect for three people. It is on a beautiful piece of property on the water about a 30 minute drive from Acadia National Park. The area is very quiet and tranquil. The cabin is well maintained. The kitchen area is small, so make sure to plan for simple meals. Our only issue was the internet service was very slow and sometimes didn't work at all. We got a message saying the account was over it's monthly data limit so it was probably just because we were there the last few days of the month.

Enjoyed the cozy cottage overlooking Frenchman Bay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Maine, and we were very pleased with our stay at McIntyre Cottage. It was so peaceful--the perfect place for us to start and end our days of hiking in Acadia National Park. We had everything we needed and enjoyed watching the sunrise over the bay and the lobster boats coming and going. Neila was gracious and responsive to our needs.

We cooked breakfast and supper each day and appreciated having the use of a gas grill. A couple of minor suggestions: consider an updated TV; add a beverage pitcher, a potato peeler, and a cookie pan to the kitchen supplies (which overall was well stocked).

Thank you, Neila!

Cozy cottage tucked away in the woods

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is definately private, except for the little critters in the woods! It is clean and well maintained, and the washer and dryer are an added plus. We did hear some animals scurrying and rustling about under the cottage in the evening, but after all, this is their habitat. Unfortunately we had a cold, rainy week when we stayed there, so we didn't get to enjoy the quiet outdoor retreat as much as we would have liked. It's close proximity to Acadia and Bar Harbor make it an ideal location for anyone hoping to spend time there. There is no exhaust fan in the kitchen, plus only an apartment sized stove, so you don't want to cook elaborate meals in the kitchen, but there is a lobster pot that we could use with the side burner of the outdoor grill that worked adequately. We had to have that Maine lobster! Also, there is no hair dryer, so make sure to bring your own.
