The Hefner-Pruitt Cottage has been referred to as "The most charming cottage in Beaufort" and it's reputation is well deserved. Located in the heart of Beaufort's Historic District, the largest National Landmark Historic District in the state, it is an easing walk or bike ride to Downtown shopping, dining, and the Waterfront Park. Also, the Palmetto Trail is just a few blocks away for scenic hiking, biking, or jogging. Greene Street is lined with huge trees, has new wide sidewalks, and there is a park just across the street. The lot is deep, allowing visitors to enter their own private driveway and parking area (off road) just behind the cottage,
The cottage was built in 1910, a small 3 room cottage with good "lines". In 2010 the owners purchased the property, hired the design firm of Ashley Hefner, and began renovation from foundation up, retaining the footprint of the original property. Every effort was made to recycle materials (very evident in the wainscoting). Two rooms, a back porch, and brick patio were added. There are 3 bedrooms - one has twin beds, 2 have Queen beds (all very comfortable with 600 thread count sheets. There are 2 great bathrooms and large closets. The rooms are light and airy and 2 of the bedrooms open to the very pleasant back porch. You will LOVE the outdoor eating on the porch!
The charm of the cottage is found in the lines of the house and the immaculate attention to details in the restoration work itself. Some of the special features of the cottage are….10’ ceilings…reclaimed heart pine floors…porches with exposed cedar rafters and cypress roof…oiled bronze hardware…ceiling fans…solid wood 5 panel doors...designer lighting, hardware, fabrics, and furniture...professional stainless steel Jenn Air range...mesquite butcher block countertops...Subzero refrigerator, original art...etc.
On completion, the cottage won a prestigious award from the Historic Beaufort Foundation for Best Architectural Restoration. Also, it was featured as home page for the This Old House website when they came to Beaufort for a project.
You will enjoy using the Hefner-Pruitt Cottage as your home base, as you explore Beautiful Beaufort.
The owners have 2 other vacation rental that you may wish to consider....#472310 and
#364922 in the Historic District.
Also, they are interested in "property swaps".

Beautiful comfortable home:
We loved staying in this home. We travel a ton and we were surprised by how beautiful this little cottage was. Very comfortable for our family and walking distance to the waterfront and shops. The owners were very helpful and responsive. We hope to come back again the next time we are in beautiful South Carolina.

We had a great time in Beaufort and at this property. The pictures do not do justice to property. it is much larger than it appears. It is beautifully decorated and comfortable. My family found the neighborhood safe and walked our dog around it several times a day. It was a easy walk to historic area and the beautiful mansions in the area. Highly recommend property.

About Lana Hefner
Al and Lana are professional designers and painters, who escaped to the LowCountry after a 20 year stay in Atlanta, where they founded Hefner Design, a business communications firm. They graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in Interior Design and Graphics. Since moving to the LowCountry area they have done complete renovations on 10 different properties in Beaufort and Charleston. They love to make tired, shabby structures wonderful. They live in Beaufort on Cat Island and manage 3 vacation rental properties and several commercial properties.
Lana Hefner purchased this House in 2013
Why Lana Hefner chose Northwest Quadrant
The owners fell in love with the original lines of the then, very shabby structure that was begging for help. They also loved the big trees in the neighborhood, the sidewalks, well lit street, the park across the street, and the proximity to Downtown. Best of all, it was in the heart of the Historic District. It was fully renovated by Ashley Hefner, who received "Best Renovation" award for correct procedure in an architectural renovation from the Historic Beaufort Foundation. The entire project received approval from the Historic Beaufort Foundation and Beaufort’s Historic Design Review Board and it is considered a "contributing" structure to the District. No expense was spared and the resulting reputation as "the most charming cottage in Beaufort" is deserved.

Loved the house!
We had an awesome weekend with old friends. The house is fabulous, very comfortable. We enjoyed our evenings in the backyard. The location is perfect. We walked all over historic downtown Beaufort. We would definitely stay here again.
Nicely renovated space but issues abound
Place is very nice and restoration is well done.
1. AC was not working properly and it was warm (luckily not hot) during our stay. Owner didn't have a technician arrive until after we left (to be fair, I didn't report until the day before we left) and technician ended up adding freon. Bit surprised this issue wasn't raised before our stay since I'm sure it has hit at least 80 degrees in 2018 here but in my opinion, the central HVAC is the #1 thing you want to stay on top of for rentals.
2. I was surprised to see new home construction across the street. Crews started pretty early (say 8:30am ish) each day. Also, street/neighborhood appears to be in transition (a few renovated homes - many in bad need of it). Hopefully more homes will be renovated over the next several years near this one.
3. Landscaping company - started before 8am one of the mornings we were there. Owner has subsequently asked for this company to make sure to not start before 9am.
4. Towels - couple of towels had lipstick on them and in general some of the towels seemed like they hadn’t been washed in a while. I recommended have housekeeping to bleach towels at least every other guest and wash all towels at least once every few weeks.
5. Satellite box in living room times out/goes to sleep if a channel isn’t changed in 4 hours (TV told me that) and needs a manual button push to wake up (TV is wall mounted and tiny satellite box is sitting on top/behind so a little tricky to get to). Took me a while to figure that one out. I recommended disabling that feature or putting a note in the guest book.
Overall disappointing stay but correctable problems.
I really don't know what to say. There is new construction all over charming Beaufort. I'm sorry he didn't understand our brand new 40" smart TV. I personally inspect all linens etc. after each stay and could not find the towels he's speaking of....
This visitor should please find another cottage that better meets his fastidious expectations.
Updated lowcountry home with plenty of charm
Had a great time with friends for a wedding. New furnishings and old school charm combined well. Enjoyed the privacy and convenient location.
Absolutely loved staying in this beautiful home!!!
Enjoyed a ladies golf weekend in Beaufort. The cottage fit our needs perfectly and we felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay: the location was convenient to downtown Beaufort.
Wonderful, quaint, cozy cottage in a quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to old Beaufort. Near all conveniences.
