Sun on your face, wind in your hair, the scent and sounds of the ocean beckoning you to come sink your toes into the warm sand. This is Makaha. Deep blue water, stunning sunsets and enchanting early morning 'full moon' sets; if you're lucky you may even see a 'moonbow'!

This beachfront home is well appointed with a nicely furnished kitchen and a dining table that seats 10. Tiled throughout with the bathrooms accessible also from the outside, the house lends itself well to indoor / outdoor living. In fact, the windows facing the ocean and mountain are screen and glass track doors that fully retract virtually removing the walls.

There are 4 bedrooms; 3 are downstairs, two of those share a bathroom with shower and the other one has its own bathroom and shower. The master bedroom is upstairs with a full bathtub/shower, and a 200 square foot balcony overlooking the ocean.

Ceiling fans in every room make the house feel breezy even when there is no wind. The beautiful surrounding trees lend shelter from the sun when you're ready to kick back and cool down in the shade.

The oceanside lower lanai has 2 round tables and a picnic table in close proximity to the kitchen and gas grill. Above are ceiling fans and lights for after sunset dinner enjoyment.

Makaha Beach is well known for surfing and diving. Each day surfers, paddle boarders, kayakers, snorkelers, divers etc. partake in the fabulous ocean fronting the house. This location is also enjoyed by those who are enthusiastic about fishing, whale watching and outrigger canoeing.

Just 15-20 minutes away are the Ihilani Resort and the new city of Kapolei. There can be found a spa, a theater, many stores, fine and casual dining. About 8 minutes from here is the Makaha Golf Resort.

In summary, this location and home combined are nothing short of epic. Owner is a licensed realtor in the state of Hawaii.

Beautiful home and yard just steps to the beach

My family had a wonderful time. The house was big for the six of us to spread out and had all the comforts we were looking for. Beautiful beach steps away. Gorgeous sunsets each night and turtles on the beach a few blocks away. We will visit again! Thank you Jackie!

Magnificent surfs and sunsets

Perfectly located in residential area. Neighbors and locals made it so much better. Every morning and evening we watched locals surf right in front of the house.

The sunets were breathtaking. Falling asleep to the sound of the surf was prefect.

The only negative was the road out to Makaha, but that was not enough to stop us from returning. We stocked up on groceries and drinks and only had to go anywhere while sightseeing. If your considering this place DO IT! You won't regret it.

Perfect getaway

The Beach House at Makaha was the perfect location for my getaway vacation. Located on the west side of Oahu, it is a residential community, without all the activity of tourist spots, quiet and relaxed yet only a half hour/forty-five minutes from Waikiki. The house itself was very comfortable, clean and well maintained. The owner, Jackie Kerns, was a great host. There was trouble with the tv when I arrived and despite my not requiring one, she replaced it with a brand new unit, no questions asked

If you are looking for the constant activity of a resort, this is not for you. But if you want a quiet, restful base of operations for up to eight people this is the place for you. A beach at your front door and beautiful sunsets across the water every night. A little piece of paradise. As Douglas MacArthur famously said,"I shall return!"

Awesome location!!

We were a group of 6 and wanted an alternative to the traditional hotel. We found Jackie's house and spoke with her prior to finalizing the rental. We found the house was just like the pictures! What an amazing view to wake up and fall asleep. We really enjoyed the local beaches and dive spots! Far superior to the typical Waikiki locations we were used to experiencing. We are so glad we chose to try this side of the Island and know that we will be back on our next trip! This house exceeded our expectations and Jackie was a first class host as well as being extremely helpful. We love the Makaha and Waianae area. If it wasn't for work we never would have left the local area. If you are looking for a place to stay and unplug, relax, and enjoy the tropical beauty than this is the place.

Cons beat Pros - Beautiful View / Nice Home / Really BAD Traffic

The home was nice with an absolutely amazing view of the ocean. The home was well supplied and had everything one would need for meals, lots of beach towels, and a start up supply for dishes and laundry. It is in a very residential neighborhood and many people are aware it is a rental. It does have a nice backyard with lots of room to play. The property was broken into while were staying there and the lock on the front door was damaged so that it could no longer be secured. We had small children with us and felt unsafe in the home after this happened.

There is only one road that leads to the property and all tourist destinations are at least a 90 minute drive. Once you pass the exit for the Ko Olina area it is all traffic signals and stop and go traffic. It takes 20-25 minutes just to get to the highway from the property. The town tries to account for the traffic with "contra" flow lanes, but it did little to help and we still found ourselves in traffic almost daily.

I would not recommend this to the "tourist". Although we enjoyed our stay, if you are doing a lot of sight seeing and plan to visit the usual tourist destinations, I would stay in the Ko Olina area or closer to Honolulu. We found that even though we intended to stay further away from Waikiki, we wound up driving there almost daily. There is also no highway that connects to the North Shore from the property. You have to drive back to H-1 to H-2 to get there.

Nice home, but the cons outweighed the pros for us. Many of things that we didn't like about where we chose to stay are not things that the owner can control.

Owner's Response: It appears the 2 star reviews could have given the property 5 stars and the decision to choose a location farther away from Waikiki 2 stars. I'm disappointed in these scores because I pride myself in providing the best vacation experience possible within my control. In any case, I will continue to serve all who visit in the same spirit and will happily address all questions in advance of booking. Regarding the "break-in" neither my property manager or I could verify a break-in had occurred. The Schlag keypad deadbolt was working fine when we arrived to find the guests gone. Also, we thought it odd the alleged break-in resulted in nothing being stolen, even with the door left wide open. FYI, the 4 number combination to access the house is changed with each guest visit and only myself and the property manager hold the pass for the permanent code. Having said all this, I hope you'll consider booking with us and will Google "things to do in Waianae and Kapolei". The West end really is a great area unless one is expecting Waikiki. Aloha, Jackie
