About Mary Bryan

My name is Mary Bryan, I was born on Hilton Head and raised on Daufuskie. My father raised myself and my two older brothers in our little red house. Its full of love! I reside in Charleston South Carolina and work as a horticulturalist at Middleton Place Plantation. Looking forward to speaking with you!

Mary Bryan purchased this house in 1995

Why Mary Bryan chose Daufuskie Island

Our little slice of heaven is such a gem. The common area is wide open and the ceilings are high. We have 4 twin beds throughout.

There is a loft upstairs that has a balcony and a queen bed, you can enter the loft through the living room or up the stairs on the right side of the house.

One of the Queen rooms is in a separate structure which is connected by a boardwalk. It has a small porch as well, great for the early nighters.

The master bedroom also has a queen sized bed, a walk in closet that leads to a little bathroom with a Victorian style bathtub, this is my favorite room in the house.

What makes this house unique

You will be able to use anything that you want to, the property is yours!

The kitchen is stocked, all the plates might not match but they do the trick! The oven is new and works like a charm, the refrigerator will be empty, make sure you plan out your provisions wisely! (There is a general store on the island that carries the basics but you wont find goat cheese there)

-coffee maker

-toaster

-refrigerator

-oven

-blender (bring some pina colada mix!)

The back porch is the greatest place on the earth. Time really slows down, have your morning coffee out there. Its screened in and a bench lines the far wall-lots of sitting space. We advise having cocktail hour on the porch (bring supplies for a killer cheese plate, really sets things in motion).

The sunset will reaffirm why Pat Conroy fell involve with Daufuskie.

It's extremely quiet- when you want it to be- bring a book!

Deer tend to walk across the yard, osprey fly across the horizon, if you are a bird watcher- bring some binoculars you will be pleased.

There is an outside shower! We are very excited about this new addition. You'll want to rinse off after a lounged out, salty beach day, and this is our favorite place to do it. The water pressure is great, gets hot out there too!

There's an oyster table out front! Feel free to have a little fire, you'll see the pit. We recommend bringing supplies for s'mores.

Bring an ENO hammock if you have one, there are PLENTY of trees to hang between.

Please please please keep our yard litter free, we love this place so much and it would hurt our hearts to see it trashed.

Oh, also, our neighbor Rodger Pinckney has a silver lab named Mojo, he sometimes gets excited and comes to say hello, just tell him to go home and he'll leave ya alone.

Never been to Daufuskie?

Here's the low down.

1. You have to take a ferry to get to it, there is no bridge to the mainland.

- There's a ferry service out of Buckingham Landing on Hilton Head Island

Buckingham Landing

35 Fording Island Road Exd, Hilton Head 29926

We recommend reserving a ticket, when you get to the landing the staff will help you unload your bags they are so great. Will only get your ticket after you board the boat. Its a super easy process. Make sure to ask about a parking pass.

You will have to rent a golf cart, definitely make a reservation

Island Carts and Rentals makes it really easy

They meet you at the dock right when you get there, they give you a map. The golf carts don't fly but you really don't want to go fast around Daufuskie, ya might miss somethin!

As for food, there are a couple of restaurants on the island everywhere is no more than a 10 minute drive away from the house.

- Morning High Coffee

-Lucy Bells Café

-Freeport Marina has a restaurant and bar this is your best bet for a little night life.

-Our beloved Marshside Mamas closed its doors this year, I hate to say it.

Bring everything you will need for your meals and cocktails!

There will be toilet paper and paper towels provided.

If you take our beach chairs to the beach please bring them back and rinse them off to help preserve them!

Bring a beach towel or a tapestry for beach chilling.

Lots of sunscreen. Lots of bug spray.

Beautiful Daufuskie!

The church is on Church road

The school is on School road

The beach is on Beach road

All the dirt roads are charming

If you are ever confused and see someone driving down the road give a wave and a smile and ask anyone for directions, its really friendly over there!

Make sure to wave in general!

There's a great little art gallery called the Iron Fish Gallery (URL HIDDEN) The artist Chase Allan has been featured in Southern LIving, Coastal Living, Charleston Home and Design, and Charleston Magazine. You don't want to miss it!

The Community Farm is right down the road, go out of the dirt road in front of the house and turn left, you'll run right into it on the right. This is super fun for kids! Lots of animals :)

Daufuskie Island Rum company, great place to check out! Go for a taste test!

Go ride horses around this island! Haig Point Equestrian center has got you covered.

Stop by Daufuskie Peach where Jan Crosby handcrafts soaps or other natural body works

Visit the First Union African Baptist Church which was built in 1884

Go for a walk on the beach!

At the Maryfield school there is an Indigo Dyed scarf store that's super cute.

Don't miss the Silver Dew hand crafted pottery

Rent a paddle board or a kayak from Tour Daufuskie, they can also set you up with a guided tour.

Tour Daufuskie can help you out!

Freeport Marina for live music and drinks. Cooper River Landing Rd, Daufuskie Island, SC 29915

Call ahead to see if they have live music during your stay.

I love putting on walking shoes and just cruising around the dirt roads on foot, its my favorite part about Daufuskie its so beautiful you are going to love it!
