This a busy little area and with Centennial Park just around the corner ;The Parthenon truly is a marvel – the Doric columns, the friezes, the stunning sculpture of Athena … but you aren’t in Greece – you’re in Nashville’s West End neighborhood. Nashville’s Parthenon is a full-scale model of the ancient Greek structure, located in Centennial Park. It contains the city’s art museum and the 42-foot statue of Athena, the tallest indoor sculpture in the nation. The surrounding park includes a walking trail, a lake, the Centennial Performing Arts Studios, and a dog park.
Perhaps it is fitting that the Parthenon features so prominently in the West End landscape, since this neighborhood is also home to Vanderbilt University. The so-called “Greek Row,” which features a variety of sorority and fraternity houses, extends along 24th Street, roughly a block away from the Parthenon. Vanderbilt is a private research university established in 1873. With roughly 12,600 students, this top-ranked university is located in the heart of West End.
West End apartments aren’t just popular with students, however. With its fantastic restaurants and charming shops, many are discovering this amazing neighborhood. There’s always something to do in West End, from Shakespeare in the Park and SoundHarvest to dining out at such great locations as Amerigo Italian Restaurant. Centennial Park is definitely the gathering place for West End residents, and you’ll find yourself drawn to this spectacular park for everything from the Tennessee Craft Fair to having lunch at a food truck.
