Charming, spacious, clean and well-maintained.
This house is SO charming and the floor plan is great. There are TVs in every bedroom and the living room. Laundry room is great, the kitchen is large. The neighborhood is so quiet and sweet. My kids caught lightning bugs in the backyard, we had a lovely time here. 10 minutes from downtown, it’s a great location.
Thank you. We enjoyed having you stay in our place.
Well-kept house with character in a charming neighborhood
We had a great stay! The house was nice, clean and spacious. We had some trouble getting the main kitchen light to come on at first, but it started functioning properly shortly thereafter. The fenced back yard was perfect for pets. Owners were easy to reach, helpful, and flexible. Would definitely recommend.
The house smelled like a litter box...that's just the beginning of a bad stay
I've been renting on HomeAway for years. Some houses where great, some okay and some not great but I've never had a terrible experience like this one. I've never given a rating lower than 3 stars. This should be less than 1 star.
It started when we walked in. This house smelled like 10 cats lived in it! We decided to make the best of it as we always do. Sprayed air freshener, didn't help, and started to get settled.
I sat on the couch and that's when I noticed animal crackers and peanuts all over the couch. I decided to call the owner. Everywhere I've ever stayed the owner was accommodating. Not so here. The owners wife asked if the food was on the couch or in between the cushions. Does it matter? There was food on the couch. I asked about the smell. They said that people have smelled a musty smell when they stayed here but nothing like I described. They didn't offer to help.
The following morning the smell was horrible. I called again. Jason, the owner, came over. Turns out he lives next door. He said he couldn't smell anything. Then he started asking me what I wanted him to do about it. I wanted the smell gone. He informed me he was going out of town and there was nothing he could do. He did bring over more air freshener before he left. Didn't help.
I thought about trying to find somewhere else to stay but my wife had surgery at GHS that morning so I made the best of it for the week. Well more things went wrong.
Here's a list:
kitchen light didn't work so when I came in late I couldn't see to cook.
oven wouldn't work either
exposed wiring at a light switch I couldn't see because the light wouldn't work
toilet paper roll holder was broke. it wouldn't hold a roll
ran out of hot water in the shower after 5 mintutes
there was broken beer bottle in the tiki torch. i guess it was to hold the fluid...wick was there though?
a large dog must of stayed here. There was evidence in the yard if know what i mean.
he set the timers on the sprinkler system to go off about 6am. I was drinking coffee on the back patio when they started spraying us... I must say it was comical at this point
I text Jason to inform him about all the issues I was having but never heard from him again. Oh, well. My wife's surgery went well and we're home now.
I made it a point to write this review immediately. All my fellow travelers who read reviews and depend on them like I do. Don't stay here!!!! Terrible experience!
Did I mention it smells!!
I am sorry that you didn't have an enjoyable experience, but I would like you & future guests out there to know that your experience was not our typical guests’ experience. We have had over 20 groups stay at our home, & with all due respect, we have never had anyone with this many concerns. In fact, our other VRBO review gave us 5 stars & other guests on a similar website said the following things about our home, “JACOB was super responsive. The house was very clean," "Jacob texted & called me during our stay to make sure we were comfortable & everything was working properly" "Jacob is a great host & is very responsive if you have any questions/issues. The fenced in backyard was great for our dog & son...We liked that the shower got really hot!"; "Jacob's house is very clean, comfortable & well located. The house fully conforms to its description. If we had to summarize our stay in 2 syllables: per-fect!" Regarding the "smell," as you are aware (since you did bring your own pets), we are one of the few homes in our area that are pet friendly. Hours before you checked in, the home was professionally cleaned, & my wife checked it before you arrived & respectfully, the only scent she noticed was Pine Sol. We offered air freshener & a room purifier, & when I came over, the husband even stated that he did not smell the same odors his wife did. Everyone seemed happy, so, we thought the issue had been resolved. We are truly sorry about the sprinklers. The sprinklers are set at 6:00 am because this has historically been the best time for our guests. If we set the sprinklers later in the day, it's more likely that guests will be sprayed, and if set any earlier, some guests have stated that the sprinklers woke them up. We will certainly take this & several other issues you brought up as a learning lesson & will let future guests know in advance about them (e.g., if kitchen light randomly doesn't work, flip switch twice). I would like our future guests to know that many other things have already been fixed (oven, toilet paper holder), or they were either non-issues. We did not learn of your other concerns until we got your text message late in the evening on the night before your departure, and by then there was little we could do to rectify the problems before you departed. As you can see from our other reviews, we are always very responsive to our guests. We are truly sorry that your experience with us was not similar to all of our other guests. We wish you the best.
