Casa Chica: Vintage and Charming Old Tahoe Log and Stone Cabin

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Update: New Hot Tub for Winter 2015

Located just outside of Tahoe City, and one block from Lake Tahoe, this Old Tahoe cabin has everything you need to escape city life without roughing it. The Main House features the kitchen, living/dining area, laundry, one large bedroom and two baths. It is furnished with Old Hickory, custom and vintage furnishings. The bedroom includes a sitting area with an antique-style gas fireplace. Additionally, two separate guest cabins (described below) each feature an additional bedroom and bathroom. A great location for the in-laws (don’t tell them we said this) or another couple of kids! (PROPERTY HAS A TOTAL OF THREE BEDROOMS for a total accommodation of SEVEN GUESTS).

Built of local stone and native lodgepole pine, this 1930s home features WIRELESS INTERNET, a new 5-person hot tub, period fixtures, comfortable furnishings, a stone fireplace, log construction, and plenty of charm. The compact kitchen is modern and features a Bosch dishwasher and dual-fuel convection oven/range.

The home sits on a third of an acre and the property connects to the dedicated bike and pedestrian pathway passing through Lake Tahoe, Sunnyside, Homewood, Tahoe City and Truckee. (bring your bikes along)

Off the Main House is a stone patio featuring plantation-grown Teak furniture and a patio heater. This is a great place to BBQ, have dinner, enjoy drinks or just relax under the market umbrella on a sunny afternoon. A few steps away is our hot tub located under a covered patio. There is a third deck with Teak furniture arranged for outdoor living. (deck furnishings for spring, summer & fall)

There are a variety of things to do within walking, biking or skiing distance of our home!

This is a nice comfortable space for two additional guests. This cabin has one bedroom with a queen bed. It has a full bathroom and closet. It is perfect for a second couple or a grandfather that snores. It is finished in knotty pine and it has an Old Hickory table and chairs for writing or reading, a television with DVD & cable, and a telephone.

The Boat House is an additional small one bedroom, one bath guest quarters adjacent to the hot tub. It has a set of bunk beds for older kids or whomever wants their own space. The Boat House is located just a few feet from the main house.

A note on the history and architecture of our home:

Years ago locals referred to our home as Casa Chica, or in Spanish vernacular, 'little home' Casa Chica has many of the modern amenities you have come to expect without compromising the classic charm of an Old Tahoe style cabin. The Main House retains most of the original divided-light casement windows and Dutch doors. The log construction, knotty pine walls and vintage Mission and Old Hickory furnishings will remind you of a by-gone era. There are several original Old Tahoe cabins on our street, and the setting is peaceful with beautiful towering trees.

About Gavin

This a great place to own. There are many reasons to stay here, but the proximity to the Lake is always on the top of the list. The large backyard and the beautiful towering trees make this a great place to spend time during any season. We take pride in keeping the house furnished and decorated with comfortable furnishings. As a result, we have many guests that have returned summer after summer or ski trip after ski trip.

Gavin purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Gavin chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

The West Shore is wonderful location, close to recreation, but not overly developed.

You can walk to Hurricane Bay Beach in 4 or 5 minutes or take a cup of morning coffee on a walk through the nature preserve just two blocks from the house.

What makes this cabin unique

You will like that we have kept the original charm of this Old Tahoe cabin.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Gavin,

Sorry I'm just now getting to write you back. We left your place and headed straight for Yosemite and didn't get home until late last night.

Thanks so much for letting us spend the week in your lovely cabin. We had a great time exploring the area, and we really appreciated all the tips and info that you gave us. The hike to Eagle Lake was indeed wonderful!

Great stay but be prepared for very icy walk ways

  • 5 of 5

This property is exactly what we needed for New Years! It was a perfect fit and in a great location. The only downside was that the walkways are crazy crazy icy between the cabin which had us all taking a few spills. You must have 4 wheel drive if you are staying here during the winter for sure. There are some small quirky things that needed to be replaced and updated but I spoke with the owner and he is working on those things. I would say go ahead a book it you will not regret it.

The perfect winter Tahoe get-away

  • 5 of 5

Casa Chica was just what my daughter and I were looking for in a ski vacation get-away. 20 minutes door-to-door to Squaw, and 5 minutes to Tahoe City and the great dining, shopping, and lake-viewing at Commons Beach, easy access but quiet, the location was perfect for us. The feel of the place, a combination of rustic log cabin with all the modern conveniences (great kitchen with dishwasher, washer and dryer, wifi and flat-screen TV) suited us just right. We skied and went tubing at Squaw during the day, soaked in the hot tub and watched movies at night, cooked some meals and ate out other times, and generally had a ball. Thank you Gavin for sharing your wonderful cabin with us!

we loved the property

  • 4 of 5

Overall experience was very good and comfortable. We could have done without the all night road construction and subsequent traffic, but this was not the owners fault. We would recommend this property to family's needing space, but common areas as well. Let's face it. Tahoe is a beautiful place.

Classic Tahoe Cabin Meets Contempo Convenience

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for an authentic, vintage Tahoe cabin with room for family and friends, loads of charm, plus all the conveniences of home. We found it all at Casa Chica - in not just one, but three sweet cabins at a great price. The property is located in a lovely forested neighborhood at our favorite area on the lake - the West Shore near Sunnyside and Homewood. We spent lots of time on the back deck, enjoying meals and cocktails under the trees. We hiked the neighborhood trails. We biked and kayaked and relaxed. Really fast wifi was a welcome surprise, and the basketball fans in our group were able to see their beloved Warriors claim the national championship. A perfect time we plan to repeat next summer. (Hope we can say the same for the Warriors).

Wonderful little place

  • 5 of 5

Very charming place; a well appointed main cabin with a very authentic feel and two side cabins. We visited at an odd time - towards the end of a rather snowless winter - but we still had a great time. Very close to the lake and many lovely hikes. (The views from Eagle Rock are well worth the short hike.) Also conveniently close to the quaint little town.

What a gem of a place! Authentically charming and impeccably well kept! Love the original architectural charm of the main cottage and the stone outdoor dining patio(s). The separate bunkhouse and beautiful, private cottage suite are perfect for a family or multiple couples. Great location and Great find! We will be back again!
