Bahia Mar is a treasure on South Padre Island offering guests a great stay in a secure gated community for all to enjoy. A perfect place to disconnect from the world.
Plan a vacation to the subtropical paradise of South Padre Island, where you can walk barefoot along windswept dunes with the sea lapping at your toes. Plan to take a romantic stroll along the Tropical Lagoon Walk to the beach. Here you'll find the excitement of wind surfing, boogie boards, banana boats, waverunners or sailing. And every October you can watch "professionals" as they build their sandcastles in the SPI Sand Castle Days. The excitement of South Padre Island continues well after dark. Island restaurants and nightclubs will dazzle you with European, Continental and Mexican cuisine, and you can dance under the stars to live rock, reggae or country music.
South Padre Island itself is a major tourist paradise on the southernmost tip of Texas, connected by the 2.5 mile long Queen Isabella Causeway to the mainland. You can have twice as much fun on South Padre Island because it's really two islands, each distinctive in its own way.
The lower island is a barrier island that international ships pass as they enter the Intercoastal Waterway on their way up the Laguna Madre. The city of South Padre Island, a resort community with no industry except tourism, is here. The city and both islands, as well as neighboring Port Isabel, all face the bay.
Whether it's from the shore or from the lighted 5,000-foot Queen Isabella Fishing Pier, fishing in the bay is excellent all year. Redfish, flounder, drum and speckled and sand trout are just a few of the species you can expect to catch. Charter boats are available to take you into the Gulf of Mexico for the thrill of red snapper, king mackerel, sailfish, marlin or tarpon fishing.
The island offers its visitors every outdoor recreation one could possibly enjoy in the sun. The long white beaches are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, diving, surfing, jet skiing, banana boating, parasailing and horseback riding. Inland, you will find facilities for tennis, golf, shuffleboard and racquetball.
You'll probably want to take a 4-wheel drive vehicle when you travel 10 miles north of town to where the highway ends abruptly, but where you can keep driving on the beach until you reach the "other island." If you want your own island "getaway," you'll find it here on 26 miles of some of the state's most spectacular uninhabited beaches.
The snow-white beaches, picturesque waterways, ever-changing sand dunes and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets make a vacation to South Padre Island truly one to remember.
With lows ranging from 40-50 degrees and highs near 70, the winters are pleasant. You can expect spring and fall to be mild and probably up into the 70s. Bring a hat and wear light clothing. It is sunny, hot and humid along the Coast where the summer temperatures are often higher than 100 degrees. Summer visitors should be prepared to pace themselves in the hot, humid weather. The summer sun is quite intense. Air conditioning is nearly universal, so relief is not hard to find.
