The President's House was designed and built in 1937 by the architectural firm of Wilber Hitchcock who was responsible for the construction of some of Laramie's most elegant homes. It was maintained as a private residence until 1955 when it was purchased by the University of Wyoming to be developed as the new official home of the president of the University.
The original four bedroom home was extensively updated and a new wing was added incorporating a large bedroom with private bath and dressing room, two fireplaces, and an open porch which ran the entire length of the addition, which was eventually enclosed with floor to ceiling glass to create a beautiful living room. A substantial stone gas fired barbecue and protective roof was added for presidential entertaining.
The house next door was purchased and demolished to provide additional parking and an expanded front yard.
The house was sold in 1997 to a private party who occupied it as a residence until 2015, when it was purchased with the idea of repurposing it's grand but ungainly facilities for the provision of short term rentals for vacations, sports and entertainment events, visiting business persons, as well as travel accommodations, given it’s proximity to I-80.
It's location across the street from the school, within walking distance of all University sports and entertainment facilities and historic downtown Laramie, it's history, and it's uniquely appropriate floor plan made it a natural choice for this endeavor. It was substantially remodeled to create four independent units, each with private keyed entrance, bathroom, kitchen and storage.
All units have been completely furnished including all kitchen utensils and appliances, bedding and bath supplies, and are fully decorated. Each unit is equipped with a television with cable and wi-fi. These services are included in the rental fee. All units have access to a laundry room with a free washer and drier as well as a variety of cleaning gear. The barbecue, outdoor dining facilities and yards are available to all tenants for no extra charge. Off street parking is provided for each unit. The yard and sidewalks are maintained by the facility.
Stays ranging from three days to one year or more can be accommodated with a progressive pricing schedule.
