My husband and I stayed at Da Villa for a week. The property was beautiful and the house was very comfortable and met all our needs. I would highly recommend anyone travleing to Eleuthera stay at Da Villa.
Perfect Location with Gorgeous Beach!
My husband and I had the most wonderful time at Davilla! The house is just as described though the pictures don't do it justice. It is very bright and clean on the interior. There aren't any pictures of the bathrooms posted - they are modern with large tiled, walk-in showers. The air conditioners worked very well though we only would turn them on to sleep for the most part. The house seems well insulated as it would stay cool for hours even with the AC off. The king sized bed was so comfortable with just the right thickness of blankets for the climate. The house was well-stocked with towels and kitchen supplies. All that being said, the most wonderful part of this home is the beach right outside. The view from the huge patio was perfect for drinking your morning cup of coffee. The Atlantic Ocean breeze kept the bugs away - we never had an issue. My husband spent hours snorkeling around the reefs just out from shore. Bring your own gear or you can rent/buy it at this little shop in Governor's Harbor by the Shell gas station. He also used the kayak a few times. Besides the reefs, there are plenty of sandy areas that are fun for catching waves. We wore water shoes though as there can be the occasional hidden rock/coral. I spent hours just sitting in the soft sand and staring out over the water. The little cabana is a good place to find shade, and the beach lounge chairs are comfortable. We took daily walks over a mile out both north and south from the house. We only saw people on 2 occasions. It was really like having a private beach. Eleuthera is a beautiful island, and the central location of Davilla was great. It was nice to be there in only 5 minutes after leaving the airport. Governor's Harbor was our favorite town that we visited, and it is only 10 minutes or so from Davilla. It is recommended that you drink bottled water - the most economic thing is to buy a 5 gallon jug of water so don't forget to bring the empty one from the house to the grocery store to exchange for a full one (cost maybe $6 vs $16 for the pack of bottled water we bought). There are 2 grocery stores there with adequate supplies. There is a very nice, well-stocked grocery store in Rock Sound but probably not worth the nearly 1 hour drive if you aren't staying for a prolonged visit. We actually ended up eating out quite a bit though it isn't cheap. We recommend Pammie's for lunch and enjoyed Tippy's and 1648 for dinner. We have already booked a return visit to Davilla in December!
We booked the Devilla house upon the suggestion of our friends who had stayed there before. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The house is the perfect distance to be secluded and private but close enough to Governors Harbour that you can easily stock up on supplies or have a nice dinner in town. The beach is amazing! Just be sure to invest in a pair of water shoes for protection against some of the ocean debris that may wash up.
The house exceeded our expectations. Everything was well maintained and the interior complimented the "beach" theme we were hoping for.
The pictures do not do Devilla justice, the place and property is beautiful!
A couple tips:
Exchange the 5 gallon jug for a fresh one when you arrive if it is empty...you will save a fortune in drinking water cost.
Buy some water shoes for the beach.
And brush up on your coconut shucking skills! They are everywhere on the property!
Great experience. Great communication and follow-up. We will be back with friends.
HEAVEN ON EARTH
What a wonderful way to spend a week. This was my second stay at Da Villa and cannot wait for the next one. From the very beginning Jim and Diane were the ultimate hosts. All my questions were answered promptly. The reservation process and payment went smoothly. I feel confident that Art the caretaker would have been helpful too, but there were zero problems so other than getting the keys and dropping them off, we had no contact with him. If you can arrange a flight into GHB it's a short 5 minute drive.
The beach in front of the house s as pretty and nice as anything on the island. Unlike may places the stairs to the beach are easy to walk up and down. The grounds are well kept and the view from the patio for morning coffee is second to none. What a wonderful way to start your morning and end your day by looking out at the beautiful picturesque scene. We had a battle or 2 with no see ums but that will happen anywhere on the island.
The beach was wonderful and had something for everyone. It has coral reefs and also had nice sandy bottom. We spent hours just standing in the water with a cold Kalik. We saw 1 person on the beach the whole week. You can literally walk for probably a mile each direction and the beach is beautiful as it is right in front of the house. Further north is Navy Beach which is so easy to find and just 2-3 minutes away. It's beautiful and secluded.
The house is perfect. It has a huge living and ding area and the large bedrooms are situated on either side of the living area giving you all the privacy you might want. The kitchen is equipped with anything you want or need. We did a lot of cooking having both brought food and bought fresh fish in James Cistern. We grilled 3 times and it was wonderful. Our only complaint and it is the tiniest of all complaints is that a gas grill would have been easier to use as our fire starting skills were limited but charcoal was readily available and every grocery store.
They only allow you to give a rating of 5 stars. If possible I would give Da Villa 10 stars.
Fantastic House and Incredible Review
I can't say enough good things about this place. This was our first trip to Eleuthera, and the house is very conveniently located for supply trips to Governor's Harbor but totally secluded. I think we saw 3 people on the beach the entire time we were there. It's also a short trip to Ten Bay if you want to visit a Caribbean beach. The view from the patio and the hammock in the yard is incredible, and because it is elevated, it catches a nice breeze almost constantly (meaning bugs weren't an issue). The house itself was nicely decorated and thoughtfully outfitted with beach towels, tons of patio seating and lounge chairs and a cabana on the beach. It had everything in the kitchen you could possibly need to prepare meals at home, which we did most nights - including grilling fresh fish that we bought from the guys on the docks in town. The caretaker, Mr. Nixon, was very helpful. Absolutely perfect and we highly recommend it.
Perfect for beach lovers
You will wonder how the owner found such a great site. It is on a small bluff just above a beautiful and rarely visited beach. The slight elevation catches the breeze so that a) you can comfortably sit on the spacious patio; b) not be bothered by pests assuming there is a wind; and c) the a/c is not even needed (we almost always use the a/c but didn't turn it on once). From the patio, you take some wooden stair-steps and there's the beach. Being an Atlantic beach, the breeze makes everything comfortable but should you get hot, there's a covered shelter that's plenty cool.
The house is large and the spacious bedrooms are truly split and unless you are Emeril Lagasse the kitchen has everything you need. We enjoyed getting fresh bread from a bakery downtown and re-heating it. You can see the ocean from the living area but the patio is so nice you will want to be out there. It has several lounge chairs and a hammock and offers areas of both sun and shade. There is also a shower for rinsing before you go back in. Once inside, you can still hear the ocean.
The property's location is really great if you are not into the Harbour Island scene. Not only is it only a few minutes' drive from Governor's Harbour, there are also some great Caribbean beaches very close by should you decide you want quieter water for a change. Several fine restaurants are within a 10-20 minute drive.
We wouldn't speak glowingly of a place unless we really meant it. Since staying last month, we have already booked it for fall of this year!
