About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7- 8)

The house has a beautiful view of Grande Mere. In the Grande Mere area there are miles of clean sandy beaches, unique sand dunes and woodland areas for hiking and discovering. In Winter, you can walk to sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities in less than 5 minutes .

My house is a minute walk away from Lake Michigan with miles of public beach and dune area. Grande Mere has gorgeous sunsets and quiet mornings. You will find the peace and relaxation you are looking for, yet we are close to many Sunset Coast towns - 15 minutes to Bridgman, Sawyer, Baroda, and Harbert. Several award wining wineries, breweries, and great restaurants are close by. 20 minutes to New Buffalo and the 4 Winds Casino, also 15 minutes to the communities of Lakeside and Three Oaks. 15 minutes to St. Joseph, 20 minutes to Benton Harbor. We are located off of 1-94 exit 22. Close, but yet a world away.

What makes this house unique

I grew up in this house and have always loved the peace of the beach, woods and dunes. I had an opportunity to take my childhood home and make it a welcoming place for other families to enjoy the serenity of Grande Mere. I made several upgrades while continuing to have the charm that the house and yard can offer. People tell me they feel so at home and welcomed when they are here. My hopes is that you will feel the same way. Randi Wilhelmsen

Relaxing Michigan getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed Randi's comfortable, clean home situated close to Lane Michigan. We especially enjoyed the spacious sandy fire pit. The area was very quiet and serene.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review of the house. Guests enjoy the fire pit area, where families can make memories around the crackling fire area. I do provide wood also so that is convenient for people to make a fire and listen to the sounds of nature! I am so happy your family enjoyed this feature.

Scenic area

  • 3 of 5

We recently stayed in Stevensville for our son's wedding. It was a beautiful area and the fall foliage was breathtaking! Rental home was close to some amazing beaches and both the wedding and reception venues. Very convenient location for shopping and restaurants, yet house was out of city a bit in a wooded setting. Pros: plenty of space for our family ; kitchen fully stocked with appliances, dishes, pots, pans etc.; nice big washer and dryer and all laundry supplies needed were provided.; deck off of the kitchen with a big patio set and a huge gas grill; fire pit area with wood supply for relaxing with family; the beds were very comfortable. Cons: Navigating narrow uphill driveway is tricky. It is very difficult to turn a vehicle around in the limited space there is for parking .We had 2 mid sized cars , and it was challenging to back out down the narrow drive. The house is very old with some nice antique furniture. Although it is charming it smells somewhat like an antiques furniture mall. If anyone in the family has asthma, allergies, or sinus issues this could be problematic, as it was for us.The bathroom on the main floor is very tiny. There are no exhaust fans in either bathroom . Opening the downstairs bathroom door after a hot shower sets off the bedroom smoke alarm; Cleaning service needs to step up their act. When we arrived the inside of fridge was not clean, spills and sticky stuff on shelves. Stove top clean but inside oven was not ; Smoke alarm in kitchen is missing ;Ceiling fan in kitchen covered in dust so we did not turn it on, dust on furniture as well. Spiderwebs. The house was quite populated with a collection of stink bugs, ladybug type bugs that bite ,elder box bugs and spiders. I understand that is is the time of year for these pests to make their way inside but there was a note on the fridge regarding the bugs that was dated from earlier this year so this may be an ongoing issue in this house? Flyswatters were provided but don't squish the stink bugs! Overall we did enjoy our visit but this home has a few issues that need to be addressed.

Owner's Response: David thank you for taking your time and writing a response with pros and cons. The house is in a very unique scenic area of Southwest Michigan. I am glad you were able to take advantage of the local offerings. As far as the cons, yes the driveway is a smaller driveway going up do to the unique property that is over 80 years old, but on top I put in a large concrete pad to turn around on. Later this month I am putting in new smoke detectors alarms in a few of the rooms. In the bathroom there is not a vent but instead an awning window, I might look into installing a ceiling vent as well. I wish you would have called the housekeeping number that was located in the dining room and many of those issues could have been rectified. I was in the house on that same week and saw no insects, but the ones you described just seem to appear with no rhyme or reason. The stink bugs and lady bugs have become a nuisance to most homes in the area as has been documented in newspapers, news shows, etc. I appreciate your response.

Perfectly charming!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a house to accommodate our immediate family (which currently consists of 7 adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant) being together for a wedding celebration in the area. We live from the west to the east and it is rare for us to have this opportunity so we wanted to be able to hang out in a relaxed atmosphere (no hotels or restaurants). This house met our needs wonderfully with adequate and flexible sleeping spaces, great big dining room table and well appointed kitchen. The family room was great also for games, reading and TV---sometimes all at the same time. Even though it was the end of October and the weather was rather rainy, we were still able to venture out for some hiking in the dunes nearby. We would love to take advantage of staying here during the summer and utilize the outdoor eating area and the fire pit. It is simply a perfectly charming house and area!

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoy this peaceful getaway spot. Everything was very clean and spacious, perfect for our family. Randi is the perfect hostess and responds quickly to any need.

The Lake showed us all it's temperament from placid warm waters to raging storm fed waves. The local beaches are a bit ravaged at present, but the beach in town is beautiful and has additional amusements from a water park to a carousel.

We will definately return here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. So many families come to the Lake House and most say they love the room and space that everybody can have. The yard has plenty of space to spread out in also. Lake Michigan is currently high everywhere and unfortunately this does hurt our neighborhood beach. On the flip side, there is are several well maintained city beaches nearby like St. Joseph that you described. I am glad your family enjoyed a restful week in Stevensville!

Owner's Response: Thank you, I think you were talking about the house being old and charming. The house is from the 1920-1930's era, with updates made along the way. We are located in Grande Mere State Park with protected dunes and trails, right on Lake Michigan. I am sorry about the water shut off, I know work was being done locally. Thank you for staying at the house, hope to see you back!
