Who’s Bob, anyway ?

Bob grew up in this very house when it was brand new in 1922 at the start of the roaring 20’s. When we moved next door in 2004 we made friends with Bob and he was an endless wealth of knowledge and entertainment about the people who had lived on our block over the decades. He knew a lot about Chicago as well, being a retired professional cab driver. He was a spry 86 years old, still mowing the grass on this enormous property when he decided to downsize and move to a retirement village down the street. We bought the house from him and decided to rehab it into a vacation rental, adding all the modern appointments while maintaining that Chicago class and charm that was built into the original design. Bob can still be spotted around the neighborhood cruising in his huge Buick LeSabre old man car.

Update Feb 2018: Bob sold his LeSabre and has been spotted driving a white Chevy Malibu around the neighborhood.

About Blaise

Thank you for exploring Bob's House. Me, my wife Teresa, and our 2 teenage daughters love to travel and we have been all over the world with VRBO as our trusted companion, finding lodging everywhere we have traveled. Now, it is our turn as we offer this truly gorgeous vacation home as your hosts and hope you will consider staying with us here. We all grew up in Chicago and have resided next door to Bob's House in this very same neighborhood since 2004 and can attest to how wonderful and safe this Norwood Park Chicago neighborhood truly is.

Why Blaise chose Norwood Park West

Norwood Park is one of the safest neighborhoods in Chicago and is very family oriented with many police and firefighters living here. There is an up and coming “downtown” area featuring excellent restaurants such as Mo Daley’s Pub & Grille, Bangkok Belly, Iron Horse Ale House, Nonna Silvia’s, and Lucky Grill. For grocery, there's Whole Foods, Costco, Target, and Mariano's all 2 miles away. We recently got our first high end liquor store at Norwood Wine & Spirits. Nearby, the adjacent neighborhoods of Edison Park and Park Ridge have loads of excellent restaurants and night life. Rosemont Entertainment District is a short ride toward O’Hare on the CTA Blue Line train and features a sort of Disney-like fake city with an Irish/DJ club (Five Roses), a billiards-gaming-bowling alley (Kings), Brazilian Steak House (Fogo De Chao), premium movie theater (AMC Muvico), comedy club (Zanies), indoor skydiving (iFly), and of course the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

What makes this house unique

The nearby CTA Blue Line train is a super convenient and cheap ($2.25) way to get around Chicago and inter-connects with other CTA train lines including the Red, Brown, Green, Orange, Yellow, Pink, and Purple lines. In addition, many CTA bus lines connect with the trains…You won’t need a car at Bob’s House to get anywhere you want to go in Chicago, but of course Uber and Lyft are also excellent and inexpensive ways to get around. You can get an Uber or Lyft driver to pick you up here within 5 minutes of ordering.

Beautiful with tons of room!!

  • 5 of 5

The House was beautifully furnished and in a great location. We had a party of 9 and there was tons of room to spare. We drove less than 5 minutes to the train station. Blaisse checked us in and gave us tons of information. We would definitely go back again.

The property was perfect. We had a group of 9 stay for three nights while in town for a wedding . Quite house, Comfy beds and Very very clean house. Plenty of extra details make it a great place to stay. Its location is close enough to ohare airport (10-15 minutes) to make it convenient to arrive after a long flight and perfect to get to an early departure. Thank you for offering us your place.

Great location, clean and comfortable property!

  • 4 of 5

Bob's House is a charming home in a Chicago suburb, 10 minutes from the airport, and 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. Easy access to public transportation and the expressway. The home is clean and comfortable, with three bedrooms upstairs with a shared bathroom, and two bedrooms in the basement with a powder room. There is a bathroom on the main floor off of the kitchen with a shower if you happen to need it. There are enough beds to sleep sixteen, but with only two showers, that may be a little tight. I think this rental would be ideal for a family of 4-6. There is plenty of entertainment in the home for kids, and the old time record player is fun to use. The kitchen is well stocked, and there is a grocery store less than 10 minutes away from the home, which is convenient. Overall, this is a very well cared for home and perfect Chicago rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the very nice review and we really appreciate your stay. Just a couple of minor corrections for future guests looking for more information... 1) The house is located in the City of Chicago, Norwood Park Neighborhood, not located in the suburbs. 2) The maximum number of guests the house can accommodate comfortably is 14 not 16. 3) There are 6 bedrooms in total, not 5. Three bedrooms upstairs and three downstairs. 4) There are two showers in the top level bathroom and one on the main floor bathroom, three showers total plus a powder room in the lower level.
