About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Enjoy a relaxing stay at our comfortable beach cottage, Little Caper. It has great ocean views and is just one block's walk to the beach. It sits on a dead-end road away from the noise and traffic of Highway 101. The cottage boasts a spacious, wrap-around deck and large, grassy yard, perfect for play and relaxation.

We have completely renovated our home to reflect our own casual beach style, and have outfitted the cottage with everything we would want from a beach vacation rental.

Guests can prepare gourmet meals in the fully stocked kitchen, and may dine either indoors or at our outdoor deck dining table. You may curl up with a book in front of the wood-burning fireplace, listen to music (either on the CD stereo system or through the iPod hookup), or watch a movie from our large DVD collection on the flat screen television. Our home is stocked with dozens of our favorite books, board games and cards for both adults and kids, and a cabinet full of DVDs for guests of all ages to enjoy. We also provide many children's toys and books, plus a wide array of beach toys for fun in the sand. If you aren't able to completely turn out the outside world, we do offer wireless internet. Please note we do not have cable, but can stream Netflix and other online services through the television.

When the weather is balmy, take a relaxing nap on one of our outdoor Adirondack chairs, cook up some burgers on the gas grill, or play croquet on the grassy lawn. You can rinse off with our outdoor shower after a day of play on the beach. There is something for everyone at Little Caper!

About The Owner

We live in Portland, just 90 minutes from Arch Cape. We have two young children and get out to the coast frequently to enjoy our second home.

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Why The Owner chose Northern Coast

Arch Cape is our favorite coastal spot because it is quiet and peaceful, yet close enough to Cannon Beach and Manzanita that we have access to all the shops and restaurants. We love that our home is just a block to the beach. There are no busy streets to cross and it's very easy to go back and forth from our home to the beach. We completely renovated the house after we purchased it, making it just what we would want from a vacation home. We are glad we can share our little piece of the Oregon coast with others. It truly is an amazing place to get away from it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was simply magical. We loved the house, the beach, the sunsets, and every minute we were here. Thank you for sharing this lovely spot.

Lovely 4 days in the quiet Arch Cape community. Cottage had everything we needed and if we had questions they were answered quickly. Great place to relax. Will book again.

Great place!

  • 4 of 5

This was our second time at the Little Caper and we were not disappointed. Michele is great to work with and very accomodating. The house is comfortable and well stocked. Fantastic movie library if you need to stay in because of the weather. The short walk to the beach is perfect. From the deck you can see and hear the waves. Have recommended it to friends :o)

Cozy Arch Cape Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Great little house near one of the most prestine beaches on the North Oregon Coast...Peek a boo views of the Ocean over roofs of houses...Nice southside deck protected from the wind...We were a party of two and found the house a perfect size..Both queen size beds were comfortable, not often the case with rental prperty..The house was tidy and clean, and website photos provide an accurate view of the interior...

A couple downside issues from our perspective were lack of any suitable lighting for reading, and no TV reception...While photos and general details refer to the flatscreen TV, DVD,etc....It's only when one tabs on the "more" information that it's disclosed there is no cable, dish, etc...I failed to do that when booking, so was surprised on arrival to find no service....That would deter us from rebooking..

In general its a great little house, and in a very quiet peaceful community, just a few miles South of Cannon Beach...The owners and VRBO were very responsive and easy to work with...

Favorite Coast Spot for Family

  • 5 of 5

This was my 4th time renting this charming place for me and my family and once again we had a lovely stay. Even with some cloudy weather, the house was perfect for us. We also took some day trips to Cannon Beach and Manzanita, but love coming back to cozy in for movies and dinner. We had no problems with any weird noises or construction issues. Hoping to come back again in the late fall!

Beware. Dumpy and poor service.

  • 1 of 5

The house was not that clean: dirty window sils, dusty refrigerator top, screen-less Windows, weeds in the yard, yellow grass. However our primary concerns were: 1. Bed sheets wrinkled and rolled up into a ball making one think they were dirty so we had one less bed to sleep in on the first night, 2., beeping from a carbon dioxide dector that went off 3 nights out of 4 at 2 a.m.-thus our restful stay was not to be had. Finally I solved the problem on our final night by tracking down and removing the device. In short beware: this place is not well kept up nor are issues resolved successfully. We won't return. For our troubles and lack of sleep we got a 100 dollar refund after spending well over a thousand dollars. this place needs a refurbishment and a new management company.

Owner's Response: We are sorry these guests didn't enjoy their stay, but in ten years of renting through VRBO we have never had such a negative experience with guests. “Mr. N” called our house manager the morning after arrival with many concerns, including dirty laundry in the laundry room (actually a laundry bag of clean linens mistakenly left by our housekeepers), a broken dryer (not broken), an empty propane tank (it was full but the safety valve was on), the outdoor shower not working (he hadn't turned the water valves on), and that a bedroom carbon monoxide detector had beeped for an hour the night before. Our house manager came out right away to address the guests’ concerns and check the detector. It was no longer beeping but he replaced the battery just in case. We advised Mr. N to take down the detector if it started beeping again, as the house is small and has many detectors, so there wouldn’t be a safety concern if one was temporarily inoperative. The next morning Mr. N called to again claim that the detector went off briefly in the middle of the night. We apologized and again suggested Mr. N take down the detector and remove the battery. The next day he called again and claimed the detector had briefly beeped the prior night, and that he finally took it down, something we had suggested several times before. We found it odd that the alleged beeping only occurred at night and after our house manager checked the detector and replaced the battery, and wonder if this was simply an effort to obtain a substantial refund, something Mr. N requested several times. We did give Mr. N’s family what we believe was a fair refund under the circumstances. Mr. N’s claim there was no clean bedding for the sofa bed is simply false. Several spare sets of linens are kept in the bedroom dresser drawers for guests’ use. The only windows in our home which do not have screens are the three front windows facing the ocean. This is common at the beach, as there are few bugs and high winds may rattle ocean-facing screens. It is also common in Oregon to not routinely water lawns because of our general abundance of rain. Grass can become brown during hot summer months, but we’ve never before received a complaint on this. We love our beach home and take great pride in its cleanliness and attention to detail. We strive to make it a wonderful experience for our guests. Indeed, the guests who stayed just prior to and following Mr. N’s family have both already booked return stays.
