This romantic casa has a Polynesian theme. That includes a roof of palm fronds, large bed and private bath and balcony with view of the landscape and beach just steps away. There are also two hammocks so you can relax and swing. There is a guest refrigerator in the casa and an outdoor kitchen for your use. Relax in the dipping pool and listen to the waterfall, or watch the wild macaws fly overhead and call to each other.

I am an American that fell in love with the property at Cabo Matapalo. Casa Kontiki was designed by me and built by a local contractor.
Katherine purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Katherine chose Cantón Golfito
Such a beautiful place. Makes you think of a Polynesian paradise found by a Shipwrecked explorer. Come relax, play, walk the beach, or surf the Pacific. Enjoy the local species of plants and wildlife. So amazing to see wild macaws flying from tree to tree and calling to each other.
What makes this Cottage unique
Plunge pool. Waterfall garden. Steps away from the beach.

So, I went over this property again again questioning everything. Like was there a shower? Is it private? Is there a fridge? The owners were SO great at answering me, and very quickly. I made a bad move and chose a place at similar price range with an indoor kitchen thinking it would be more private for my morning tea. One night there and i begged to move here, and the owners worked so hard to get this place ready in a moments notice for us!
First impression. Wow! It is like a little Polynesian hut that you would find in Tahiti over the water...but in the jungle :)
The caretaker, Ever and his wife, were there prepping it for our stay when i got there early to drop my bags off. They are SO nice and accommodating. Cleaned every day for us and included super cute little touches that made it really romantic and beautiful to come back to every day.
It’s definitely private. Open air but no one is around and the bathroom is to die for! The little water fall pools are gorgeous and the shower is so peaceful to use in that beautiful setting. One word to describe, peaceful. If you want somewhere to have a romantic experience, this is it. Not kid friendly and not really for someone that isn’t comfortable with their partner with the bathroom directly behind the sleeping area, but I LOVED everything about it.
The beach below is referred to as “the crack” it’s not a swimming beach, that being said, it’s one of the most spiritually powerful beaches i visited in a Matapalo. Sitting there in the mornings and evenings was a magical experience. You will find clarity. The beach just a few minutes down the road was really great for sunbathing/surfing and Pan dulce or backwash more at the beginning of Matapalo road are best for swimming and beginner surfing. All is walkable and i did it often. 4 wheel drive is a must or at least not a car, you’ll bottom out over the rocks on Matapalo road.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing piece of paradise!!!
So glad you enjoyed it! Smiles
We enjoyed the space, and the caretakers who live just down the hill were extremely welcoming. They even helped us in setting up a trip to Corcovado, and assisted with food purchases, for which we were very grateful. The drive to the end of Matapalo Beach Road definitely requires a 4X4. Once you arrive, it is its own paradise. The bedroom is an open air thatched roof space perched atop a small hill, with an adjacent bathroom / outdoor shower. The open element kitchen is situated down below. We didn't use it, but it looked to be fully functioning and well-stocked with table & chairs to enjoy a meal. If you plan to use the kitchen, I would suggest stocking up on your groceries beforehand in Puerto Jimenez. Overall, we found the nearby beaches to be gorgeous, loved seeing the wildlife and making our way to Carate and ultimately exploring Corcovado.
Best place in the world!!
What an amazing place to stay. When we arrived we couldn't believe how lucky we were to have found this place at such short notice. The Thatched bamboo room situated entirely on its own in such beautiful surroundings, with its own bathing pool and outside kitchen. it couldn't have been more perfect and the rates seemed very fair indeed compared to others around the same area.
The young couple looking after the place were so lovely and made us feel welcome straight away.
The only downside for us was that we didn't book it for longer.
If you want a relaxing time away, surrounded by beautiful forests, amazing wildlife and A grade point break then this is the place to stay.
Next time i'll be booking for a lot longer :-)
Thank you so Much :-)
