El Paso and Juarez, Mexico are just 50 minutes south down the interstate where great high end and discount shopping abound along with numerous restaurants.
Southern New Mexico enjoys great weather, almost always sunny and bright. Winters are very mild and summers are pleasant with frequent,short afternoon showers in July and August. Las Cruces is convenient for biking, golfing, hiking or visiting the historic city of Mesilla (10 minutes away). This is a culturally rich city with many local plays, art and special events. The Las Cruces Country Music festival plays in October and is hugely fun and popular. Other fun local events include Cinco de Mayo, the monthly art walk, NMSU athletics (football, basketball and baseball), the Farmer's market and local wineries and breweries.
