About Mandy Vogl
I'm originally from West Virginia, but have always been drawn to North Carolina and warmer weather. I purchased this townhome as my primary residence, but got married and moved into my husband’s house shortly afterward. Now we keep it for long weekends and family visits, renting it out part-time for vacationers to help with the mortgage.
Mandy Vogl purchased this Townhome in 2018

Nice family vacation at Carolina Beach
We found Harlow Hideaway to be clean, cozy, and well suited to our family for our vacation. The owners responded promptly and cordially to replace batteries in the TV remote. Beach access was relatively quick and easy, and Boardwalk is only a 10 minute walk. 2 minor unexpected inconveniences: very small pool (though it turned out to be great for our small children) and beach access not directly across the street (about 100 feet either direction). We enjoyed our trip!
Great location- amenities/beds not so great
The location is fantastic! Easily walkable to the boardwalk/restaurants/bars/shops/etc. The house promises sleeping accommodations based on # of beds and we were disappointed to find the bottom bunk "mattress" was the equivalent of a mattress pad. As soon as you sat on the bed, you could feel ever wire/slat/support system of the metal bunk bed framing. We ended up putting the mattress pad on the floor and making two people of our group sleep on it since the framing was so uncomfortable. This was a huge inconvenience given the number of people attending was dependent upon the number of beds shown as available. The bedrooms don't have any mirrors with the exception of one over the door mirror in the "master" bedroom which isn't even a full mirror. This made it really difficult for everybody to be getting ready at the same time. The kitchen was poorly equipped. The can opener didn't work, there wasn't a single cutting board, no toaster, and the pots/pans were limited. While we don't go to the beach expecting Michelin-star kitchens, we do prefer to fix meals at the house vs. going out so the lack of these items was very annoying and made eating at the house much more difficult.
The pool is extremely small, while it's great for a quick dip, not exactly a place you'd want to spend a lot of time in. Especially if another family is there. The balcony gives a nice view of the ocean when looking in that direction but if you're not looking towards the water, plan on enjoying the view into the house across the driveway which is only about 20 feet from you.
We've been going to Carolina Beach for the past 4 years and I personally go once or twice throughout the year with another group. Overall, the location was by far the greatest selling point and the reason we would consider staying here again given the lack of sleeping accommodations would require we reduce the number of people attending.
Hello Brooke, I really wish you would have reached out if you were having difficulties (as we request in your check-in information), especially as we most definitely have a toaster (a 4 slice toaster is located in the cabinet under the bar with the crock pot, the frozen dessert maker, and the quesadilla maker). I would also love to hear what you felt was lacking from kitchen supplies other than a cutting board - especially given that we supply much more than a regular set of pots/pans (7 pots and 3 skillets of varying sizes). We want our guests to be as comfortable as possible, and while our families and ourselves haven't noted any deficiencies in the kitchen while staying, not everyone has the same regular needs. We also agree that the lower bunk mattress was not very comfortable and we have already replaced with a new memory foam mattress.
Great Place to Stay at Carolina Beach!
Our family of six truly enjoyed our stay in this townhouse! The location is great and we walked everywhere we wanted to go except to the grocery store. The townhouse was very clean and comfy. Having the outdoor shower with hot water was great as was having the full washer and dryer. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning to have our coffee and read. We didn't have any problems that needed to be addressed during the week so I can't comment on the response time of the owner but do know that she quickly responded when we made our reservation and when we checked out. The only suggestions we have are thicker mattresses on the bunk bed (especially the bottom bunk) and curtains on the windows in the other two bedrooms to help block out some light. We greatly appreciate you allowing us to stay in your home and making our week at Carolina Beach so enjoyable! We are already talking about our trip for next year!!
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Our plan for this off-season is to retire the current bunk beds and build some into the wall. We will be updating the mattresses when we do so. We would love to have you back next year!
Great get away
Everything was great. Just one recommendation and that is the full size bunk bed needs a regular full size mattress for comfort
The owners were great and easily accessible in the event we had any question or problems. The condo was very nice and had everything advertised.
Family enjoyed our stay. Good location to the events we wanted to attend. Enjoyed seaford at Bowman. Hamburgers at Pop's was fantastic. Good music also. Highlight of our stay was Thursday night with the fireworks at the Broadwalk. Beach was just a short walk away and the pool was awesome.
