Relax and enjoy your elegant home in San Miguel, a beautiful colonial city in the heart of Mexico. At Casa Colina (the House on the Hill), you will enjoy light and bright open areas, original artwork, a colonial ambiance and all the modern conveniences. Casa Colina has been featured on the popular House and Garden Tour to benefit the Biblioteca Publica.
Casa Colina is in the Ojo de Agua neighborhood of San Miguel, named for the ancient church and spring. Your old and new friends will clamor (trust us - we know!) to visit you at this lovely home, and both young and young-at-heart will ride the waterslide from the outdoor living area into the pool!
Enter the home through the walled garden and POOL area, and climb the gracious staircase to the airy outdoor living room with a fireplace. Stop, lounge, relax and enjoy the views, or enter the interior of the home. From the outdoor sala, you may enter the kitchen and dining area or the elegant living room featuring a hand-carved cantera fireplace with gas logs.
You are above the town, with the convenience of a garage, but still only a fifteen-minute downhill walk to Centro (less to the Instituto). When you want to go back home, grab a cab for $2, or get a workout and walk home. We also have a SCOOTER available for an additional fee.
At bedtime, you will enjoy the cool bedrooms on the first level. We built the bedrooms on the ground floor to enjoy both cool bedrooms and a better view from the main living areas. You will love the new, comfortable, American-sized Sealy mattresses and the Egyptian cotton sheets on the hand-crafted beds. Each bedroom boasts a unique boveda ceiling romantically lighted from the hand-cast mouldings.
The home has an open floor plan, but still is equipped with separate areas if groups of guests would like some privacy. Find your favorite spot on the rooftop terrace, the main living floor, the outdoor living room or in the cozy 'Mexican Modern' television room.
You can enjoy your holiday without everyday cares, as Amalia comes each day to clean the home and do the laundry. She is a VERY talented cook, and will also cook breakfast and the midday dinner for a small additional fee. Just let us know!
Let's take a moment to talk about WATER. First, there is the pool with its thrilling water slide. Second, all the water in the house is purified, so you can drink without worry. Third, the showers in the house are fabulous Rainfall showerheads, including the outdoor shower. You'll have the best showers of your life. Fourth, there is a Jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom.
The bedrooms comfortably sleep five, but trundle beds and a futon in the television room will accommodate occasional overnight guests. Cable television, cable internet, wifi plus a security system complete the modern conveniences in this colonial treasure.
We have a competent and friendly staff. Amalia, the maid, comes daily to keep the house sparkling. Fernando, our gardener, comes three times per week. Best of all Norma, our house manager, is authorized to solve any problems that may arise. You will be carefree, except for balancing all of the marvelous activities available in San Miguel de Allende.

There is no place like San Miguel de Allende! It is the perfect place for someone who wants to experience Mexico, learn something, live in a magical setting and have a lively social life, all at the same time! The people you meet in San Miguel are interesting and friendly - gringos and Mexicanos alike.
You can enjoy all of the benefits of San Miguel, without the drudgery of day-to-day life. The first time I came my children were 9, 6 and 1.5 years old. My life was a thrilling merry-go-round of meals, picking up, laundry, picking up, more picking up and grocery shopping. When I came to San Miguel I was able to have others do all of those things, while I re-connected with the part of me I liked the best - I could be a good mom and still go and take a language class, or have lunch with my new friends (who are now old friends).
The heavy lifting of young children is behind me now, but I love San Miguel more all the time. I grew up in a small town in Ohio, and in an odd way, San Miguel has some of the best qualities of a small Midwestern town - people are open and eager to meet new friends. Of course, Mexicans are world-famous for their kindness and open generosity.
These days, aside from spending time with my dear friends in San Miguel, I enjoy the many cultural activities and fiestas that take place year round. I would list my favorites, but I would run out of room! I also enjoy using San Miguel as a base to explore central Mexico.
terrific property on almost every count. Amalia is indeed a great cook and lovely person as well. The pool was warm enough to swim in almost every day, and the house was comfortable and very attractive. The kitchen has every condiment and utensil one could imagine.
If I were the designer, I'd replace the huge outdoor table with something smaller. Beds were high and huge and took up more room than need be. But this is a very small complaint.
You can walk to town in 20 minutes, and walk back in ... 35? Really steep climb. But it kept us in shape.
Noise was a problem: barking dogs across the street and trucks downshifting on the nearby highway.
But the air smells fresh, the plants are well taken care of. You can accidentally leave your door open! Few insects, many hummingbirds.
First and foremost the pictures do not do this house justice! Amalia was the sweetest and so helpful. The house was extremely clean and close the area were the wedding we were attending was. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!
First, let me say the date of arrival I selected is wrong ... we stayed back in Oct of 2011 ... but the system won't let me select a date that long ago. I keep coming back to look at this property to look at dates available, and realized I never left a review. Also, in the last 4 years we've stayed at a lot more properties, and we now realize how special this one is.
The place is even better than the pictures! Loved the pool, loved all of Amalia's help with the house and help with our infant son.
I've stayed at about 20 different properties, and this is the one I really want to get back to the most!
Beautiful home and excellent value.
Hope to see Amalia again very soon!
This multilevel (3) home is simply gorgeous; it features beautiful spaces throughout the house and two wonderful terraces. Cooking on the kitchen with with the terrace doors open and the amazing views (particularly at sunset) was beyond words. As soon as we arrived we felt at home and parting was very hard.
Amalia is a treasure and a wonderful person to converse with. Her cooking was delicious and she was kind to ask at what time we would prefer breakfast served. This was very important to us as we are not morning people and the fact that she considered our schedule just made her even more awesome in our eyes. As a local, Amalia has great recommendations as where to find good and affordable restaurants!
Even though the home is in the high part of a hill, the walk to the Centro wasn't so bad. For those that prefer to not walk, the taxi drivers were always on time to pick us up for a pretty inexpensive amount.
Overall, we had a fantastic time at Casa Colina and we cannot wait to stay there again, hopefully in the summer to enjoy the swimming pool!
beautifully furnished, great beds with luxurious linens, wonderful pool with fun slide, beautiful covered outdoor deck overlooking the city, great housekeeper who can cook. Only negative is noise from trucks on highway above and very steep hill back up to the space from the town.
We just left a five night stay at Casa Colina and look forward to returning in the future. The pool was great and my daughter enjoyed the slide. Taxi service to the Centro was very prompt and we never had any issues getting to/from. Amalia was awesome and prepared some excellent authentic breakfast and lunch meals. She helped make our stay wonderful and we look forward to getting back to SMA!

If you choose to have a cook, you pay directly to her. Cost is 100 pesos for breakfast only, 150 pesos for comida only, or 200 pesos for both. This does not include the cost of the food. Amalia will shop for you, but you must give her money for the shopping. She will provide receipts.
In addition, I don't accept guests the same day that the previous guests leave. The staff needs time to make the house perfect for your arrival. I am trying to fix the Calendar to show this, but please keep in mind that Casa Colina may be available a day after the calendar shows.
