Amazing House - Incredible Views

  • 5 of 5

I can't believe someone would rent out a house this nice. Pictures don't do it justice. The views from the balcony and terraces are amazing. The house itself has everything you need and more. The homeowner is very accommodating and has a very quick response time. Enjoy!

Home does not fit as many people as advertised and does not have functioning jacuzzi

  • 2 of 5

This house did not live up to the property description. The two stars are for the location, and the view.

Overall my experience staying here was less than ideal, especially at this price point. Although the check-in time was scheduled for 4pm, the house wasn't ready until 5:30pm. Scott didn't communicate this to me so my group ended up standing around in the house while his family wrapped up their dinner and the cleaner finished sweeping for an hour and a half.

The descriptions says the house can accommodate up to 12 people, however there are only 4 beds. When I asked Scott where the other 2 people should sleep (I had a group of 10) he suggested the sofas but clarified the sofas are not sleeper sofas. He also suggested I go out and buy some air mattresses if this would be an issue. He did not provide clean sheets for the beds or the stained and dirty sofas. Half of the light fixtures and light bulbs didn't work so the entire downstairs area was very dim.

His AC broke (which he also didn't tell me until I texted him after he left) and all he had was a small AC unit for the room upstairs and two small fans for the rest of the house. The house has floor to ceiling windows which is great for the view, but traps all of the heat. We ended up keeping all of the doors open to let any breeze in, but it still got unbearably hot and humid.

Finally, I specifically filtered my rental house search for a house that could accommodate 10 people with a jacuzzi. The jacuzzi was non-operational our entire stay. Scott knew this but claimed the repairman would have it up and running- this was not the case.

I would not recommend this rental house, especially to a group larger than 8 people. There are many other rental houses in this area with just as good of a view and fewer issues.

Disappointing stay, amenities not as described

  • 2 of 5

What we like: Location – easy access to public transportation and close to many points of interest such as the Zoo and Downtown. View – beautiful vista of downtown SD. Well stocked supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, etc…

What we dislike: Missing bedroom & bathroom, busted A/C, dirty nonworking Hot Tub, useless closets/dressers, loose railing near stairs

Overall, we were disappointed with this house. We have rented many times before in SD and this was our first negative VRBO experience. We did not get our money’s worth and the owner advertised amenities that DO NOT work.

More details below

When we booked this house 5 months before our stay, it was listed as 4 bedroom/3.5 bathroom. Upon arrival, we only have access to 3 bedroom/2.5 bathroom. There was a locked door on the floor where the other 2 bedrooms were (we guess this leads to the 3rd lower bedroom/bath). The owner did not inform us of this major change and we had sent him an email in June asking if the reservation was all in order. We are sure we booked 4 bedrooms because on the overview description of the floors, the owner described the master bedroom on the top floor and 3 bedrooms on the bottom floor. It is obvious he changed the # of bedrooms/bathrooms on the top line but he did not update the old description.

Upon arrival, A/C was not working and we spent way too much time trying to diagnose the problem (by following the owner’s directions). Repairman was sent the next day but the system was so broken that repairs could not be done during our stay. A/C was much needed since the house had a lot of glass windows and not nearly enough windows that can be opened. In order to be comfortable, we kept all windows AND doors open day and night and all of us got multiple bug bites.

Hot tub? More like NOT-tub. Hot tub had so many bugs and plant debris in it. Owner told us we could use it but sent a repairman the day after we got there. We did not tell him it was not working; he knew it was NOT usable but advertised it as an amenity. We were so disgusted by the bugs that we decided we didn’t want to risk using it.

No usable closet/drawer spaces for guests: The master bedroom was advertised as having a spacious walk in closet BUT it was filled with the owner’s items. In fact, every closet/drawer/dresser in the house had stuff in it so we had no place to hang up or put away our clothes.

The coffee machine had old coffee ground with stuff growing on it. Enough said.
