Beautiful home sitiuated right on the water
We enjoyed ourselves for a friendsgiving, this year at CompassRoss. After one good trip to the grocery store, we never had to leave again until it was time to return home. We hope to return again for another stay soon.
very nice (loved it)
Hurricane Florence rained on our parade and kicked us out early but the first 3 days made up for it (beautiful). We fished and crabbed from the bank. My girl friend and I caught and ate crab until we couldn't eat any more. We didn't do that well fishing but that maybe on us. There were a lot of complaints about mosquito but we didn't have that problem however we did bring and use bug spray. As far as bugs go the very large horse fly's would swarm my truck every time I pulled in and out but had no real interest in me. I would suggest keeping the windows of your vehicle up to keep them out LOL. We thought the property was amazing and loved how private it was. We are already talking about coming back here again next year. It is not really covenant to have to go out for supplies because nothing is really that close, but they had a lot of things there already example (spices and a decent collection of them also) and other supplies that would help you out. I actually may go check it out this winter. Oh and we have two big Pit-bulls and they also loved loved loved it.. Having the dogs there was awesome because the property is so large and covered on 3 sides by water made it very easy. we didn't have to worry about another dog strolling into the yard or having to have them on a leash everywhere we went was nice for all of us.Thanks for having us Jim and Shelly.
We went in a group of 9. The house is clean, well equipped and big enough to accommodate the group. We did boating, and caught crabs on the property. The only drawback is the rough waterfront. Deposit there’s a boat landing area, there are numerous sharp objects in the water near the shore line. One of us got cuts on foot so did the dog. The owner may need a warning sign for that.
Great location, great little vacation home
So I just got back from a 2 night 3 day trip on Sunday. Originally, it was supposed to be a family reunion with my brothers, our wives and kids. However, after reading the latest review (before mine) we were worried there may be too many mosquitoes for the kids and wives so they decided to stay home and it was just me and my brothers. We decided to just make it a chill, relax and fishing trip.
First, we had a little trouble finding the place because Google Maps did not have the home in the correct spot, but we were able to see the entrance of Compass Rose on the Uturn back. You have to drive a little bit down the road after entering the gates to enter the house. Because we arrived around 10pm, we weren't able to see anything and it was pitch black. As soon as we got into the house and turned the lights on, it was awesome. We took our lanterns and flashlights and headed out back to find the water to be just around 20 yards away. Very nice to fish right outside the house.
We caught skate, striped bass and lots of crabs and minnows.
As for the bugs... yes... there are a lot of mosquitoes in the area, but they didn't bother us too much after spraying ourselves with 'Off'.
One other issue we had was the internet. After the first night, the internet stopped working. All of us use Tmobile, so we had no reception so weren't able to call out. However, we didn't mind too much since it was a trip to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Overall, a great stay at a great location. DONT FORGET THE BUG SPRAY!
Too Much Bugs/Roaches
When on a quick 2 nights trip over the memorial holiday days with two families. As soon as we got out of the car, large mosquito's swarmed around the cars and was literally attacked. Also, found cockroaches on the bed....told the owner about it. She was surprised that we found cockroaches on the bed. Surprisingly I've found roach killer spray in the laundry room....I guess the place was too country for me...next time I'll stick with hotel....
The property was a nice place tucked away in Hacksneck. We saw many types of wildlife and were able to enjoy the water that is a short walk across the backyard. The owners provided plenty of places to sleep and extra bedding. They also let us check in a little early since we were in town for a wedding. The only complaint I have is that the floors we dirty and just needed a little sweeping.
