A Fantastic Villa Located In A Lovely Authentic French Village

About Julie Prosser
We are the Prosser family and originate from London. As a family we started coming on holiday to the region about 15 years ago. We fell in love with the area so much that we left the UK and moved here in 2009. We are now fully integrated into the French way of life. As a family we are living the dream that my husband had when he was a child when he holidayed with his parents in the South of France. My daughter and I speak both English and French and my husband is learning French at the moment. We both enjoy helping others and so holiday lettings was a natural progression for us. The joy for us will be people telling us they had a wonderful holiday and that they want to return to the region. For us this area is a really magical place, both in winter and summer.
Julie Prosser purchased this Villa in 2013
Why Julie Prosser chose Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines
We live in Sorede, which is the next village to Saint Genis des Fontaines. We love every day here and have a very good knowledge of the area and all the local villages. When we started looking for a house to buy for holiday lets we spent months looking at a number of properties. When we looked at Chez Nous we both knew straight away that this was a fantastic house. In a lot of ways it mirrors our own house in that it is in a very quiet location with the countryside a 2 minute walk away and yet it had the practicality of being able to walk into the village for bread etc. The French neighbours of Chez Nous are lovely and they love nothing better than a chat. As soon as you enter Chez Nous the house flows perfectly with lots of natural light. A lot of French houses have a number of small rooms which make them dark. As soon as you sit on the terrace at Chez Nous the peace and tranquility hits you and you relax immediately.
What makes this Villa unique
My husband holidayed in the South of France as a child and we came on holiday to this area by luck many years ago. We immediately became hooked on the place. The magic is to do with the deep blue light during the day. We have on average over 300 days of sunshine a year with beautiful sunrises over the sea and lovely sunsets and blood red skies at night. There are clear skies at night where you can almost touch the stars. In summer we eat outside day and night. In the winter we are blessed with the magic of Le Canigou. During the summer months you can't see it because of the heat haze, but as soon as winter comes it appears and grows ever larger as snow envelops it. We never grow tired of Le Canigou and the magic that emanates from it. If you love the sunshine and clean air, if you love swimming in the sea or in the pool, if you love eating outside whether it be at a local restaurant or at Chez Nous then you will love this area and have a wonderful holiday. One of the joys of Chez Nous is its quiet location. You can head to the busy beaches during the day and come home and relax in peace and quiet.

Great property with everything you would need. Conveniently located for exploring the wider area. Excellent service from the hosts. Would definitely recommend this as a place to stay.
Chez Nous has everything you need for a relaxing holiday in a friendly French village
The house is well appointed and lacks nothing in facilities and equipment. The living area is comfortable and spacious. The TV has a full range of British programmes including all Sky and BT channels, something not found in many rental properties. The kitchen has all the equipment you need if you are doing your own catering. The bedrooms are spacious with very comfortable beds and adequate storage space. The bathrooms are well appointed with large showers. The only improvement could be making the downstairs bathroom into an en-suite adjoining the downstairs bedroom which would allow for a little more privacy. The pool is not huge but is lovely and very well maintained. The outside area is well presented with three separate seating areas. The garden again is maintained to a high standard and is very pretty. The local area is very quiet and the locals in the village are very friendly - you get a cheery “bonjour” from almost everyone you meet.
There are some lovely villages to visit such as Céret and La Roque and the stunning seaside town of Collioure is a must. There are also plenty of good restaurants in the area if you are eating out. We particularly liked Les Enfants Terrible in La Roque and Sabai Sabai, a Thai restaurant in Argeles-sur-Mer.
The property owners, Julie and Andy, are very helpful and friendly and obviously take great pride in the property. We’ve holidayed in many villas/houses in Europe over the years and Chez Nous definitely ranks very highly amongst them. We would highly recommend it.
Well equipped and well maintained modern property in pleasant, quiet neighbourhood.
We enjoyed a very relaxing and comfortable week at Chez Nous. The property had everything that we needed. Comfortable rooms (with air conditioning in the bedrooms) and a very well equipped kitchen. We barbecued and sat out by the pool most evenings and one of us cycled to the village bakery every morning for breakfast supplies. The owners, Julie and Andy, could not not have been more welcoming and helpful in responding to requests for information and providing equipment for our two year old toddler.
Great house to stay in and a nice village
We stayed in the villa for a week. It is very large and modern with a lovely sunny pool (we swam every day) but plenty of options for shade when needed. The house was spotless on arrival in particular the kitchen was fully equipped. There is proper air conditioning in the bedrooms. There is also sky TV and a version of on demand with lots of English films and programmes. The pool has a cover so stayed very warm. There are bikes and a kids in line scooter.
St Genis is a nice little village a ten minute walk away, where there are plenty of local facilities including bakery and small supermarket. The people are all very friendly and say bonjour.
We have visited this area before, staying in La Tour Bas Elne and Collioure. The area has lots to recommend it. This time we went to the beach at Argeles and El Racou a couple of times, horse riding, and a trip to Collioure - all about a 15-20 minute drive away but easy enough with google maps. We also went to LaRoque des Alberes which is only 5 minutes away and there is a short walk from the main square up to a beautiful Belverdere with a fantastic view of the Pyrenees. We went to Aqualand which was very expensive for what it is - our kids at 5 and 7 were too young to get the full benefit of it, as only wanted to do a few flumes. In the past we have also visited Ceret (which has a lovely art trail for kids), Elne (for a wonderful meal at Cara Sol), and done the Le Petit train from Collioure to Port Vendres. A lovely house to stay to access all these places.
A tranquil relaxing stay
Six of us enjoyed a week in this lovely villa. The villa is roomy and has everything you need. We liked the choice of seating areas outside. The air conditioning ensured cool bedrooms.
There is a short walk into the village centre where we used the baker and the small supermarket and the excellent tourist information office at the cloisters.
At night we enjoyed the walks into the country lanes to see the glow worms.
The owner is extremely helpful and friendly.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and that you enjoyed exploring the local area. Please come back and see us soon!
Great villa in a peaceful location
Chez Nous is a great villa in a peaceful location, yet only a short walk to all amenities. The property is clean, spacious and very well thought-out with everything you could need. Julie, our host, was on hand for all questions or concerns. Will defiantly like to return with friends.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Chez Nous. It was lovely to meet you both and we would love you to come back with friends to introduce them to this wonderful part of France. À la prochaine! Julie
Welcome to 'Chez Nous' !
Our wonderful Villa is perfectly located in a quiet cul-de-sac in the lovely authentic village of St Genis des Fontaines. It is a 5 minute walk to the village centre and yet open countryside is on your doorstep. Chez Nous' will not disappoint you offering a fantastic holiday villa in a beautiful location.
St Genis des Fontaines is a delightful, authentic village 30 km to the south of Perpignan and only 8 km inland from the Mediterranean beaches at Argeles-sur-Mer, listed in the top 6 beaches in France. The village offers a playground for children, a boulodrome, a trim trail, two tennis courts, cycling and rambling paths and horse riding. There is a market on Tuesdays and Fridays selling local produce. The village is famous for its 10th century Romanesque Abbey, the Saint-Michel. There is a full range of shops; bank, tabac, post office, chemist, doctor, dentist, supermarket, cafes, boulangeries, restaurants and bars. The close proximity of the villa to the Auberge des Alberes means that you can enjoy plenty of the excellent local wine with your meal. You can walk to the local wineries and taste the various wines which are excellent!!
During the summer months most of the local villages put on live music for the entertainment of the tourists and there is nothing nicer that sitting outside to eat an evening meal whilst listening to a live band. St Genis des Fontaines is a Catalan village and as such Sardana dancing is very much part of it's heritage. A list of all known local events will be provided at the villa.
This village sits at the foot of the Pyrenees and is geographically a great location for a holiday for all families. Spend a day sat around the pool reading a novel, or for the more energetic head out on your bike into the mountains and enjoy the fantastic Cols on your doorstep. The Alberes mountains are fantastic for road or mountain bikes and will provide plenty of challenging climbs. Why not punctuate your rides with coffee and a croissant or cycle down to the coast at Argeles sur Mer with its miles of long sandy beaches. If you prefer pebbled coves there are loads to explore as you head from Le Racou towards the jewel of the Languedoc, Collioure. This fortified town on the coast has the most amazing atmosphere at night, with crowds flocking to its outside restaurants. Historically Collioure was made famous by artists such as Matisse, Dali and Picasso. A drive along the beautiful coast road is a great experience and you can stop at the various beach cove villages as you enter Spain for a long lunch of local Tapas or a dip in the Mediterranean sea. If you are feeling energetic then the waterpark (Aqualand) at St Cyprien provides a great day out for all ages, St Cyprien also has a great golf course that you will enjoy.
The beaches in this region are fantastic in that you have such a wide choice. Argeles has a busy beach with fine white sand and activities include kite surfing, windsurfing and sailing. Le Racou is a much smaller sandy beach with a less touristy feel to it. Between St Cyprien and Argeles there are a number of naturist beaches. If you want pebbly inlets and coves to explore then we are able to provide their locations, most of which are quiet and away from the crowds.
Inland, the regional capital, Perpignan (20 minutes drive) is well worth a visit with its excellent shopping, restaurants and the historical Palais de Rois de Majorique. During the summer months Perpignan puts on great music nights each Thursday where the streets are filled with music from live bands and people dancing.
Other great places to visit are Ceret which is another walled town with a great ambiance and is also the cherry capital of France. Chateau Valmy, a hotel and winery which also holds open air concerts during July. Barcelona with its great history and shops can be easily accessed by the fast TGV from Perpignan or Figures in Spain. The Dali museum in Figures is also a lovely day out. In the mountains 'the little yellow train' with it's open top carriages provides a great day out as it slowly winds its way over deep canyons from Villefranche up to Font Romeu ski resort, which is also a wonderful place to walk in the Summer.
Come and join us in the sun at 'Chez Nous' for a wonderful holiday experience !!!
