Washington Island is a place like no other. There’s a reason it is said to be north of the tension line. As the ferry slips across the seven miles of the Death’s Door strait, you feel the burdens of modern life fall away. You find yourself in a simpler time — a time that was a bit slower, a bit quieter, a bit friendlier.
Ten reasons to love Washington Island: (1) The people (2) A Great Lake all around (3) The unique appeal of each season (4) The quiet (5) Small-town life (6) The woods (7) The wildlife (8) The spectacular night sky (9) Schoolhouse Beach (10) Rock Island State Park.
