Why Brad Spirito chose Smithville
After staying at Legacy Trails for a memorable family vacation in 2015, we built Sunset Ridge with the goal of sharing this wonderful place with others. We were searching for an outdoorsy escape that was dog-friendly and within driving distance of Dallas, and the Legacy Trails community was exactly what we were looking for. We hope you treasure your time here as much as we do.

We loved the cabin. It was perfect
I highly recommend Sunset Ridge. It was a great getaway. .
Very nice place
This is a very clean nice cabin.
This cabin was perfect for us to relax and enjoy our time away together!! The cabin is cozy, clean, has a beautiful view, and all the comforts of home!! We will be back!!!
We really enjoyed our stay and owners are super friendly! Cabin is exactly as it looks on the pics if not even better. Short walking distance from the river so it is safe for kids.. We will definitely go back later this summer.
The whole weekend spent in Smithville was wonderful, so relaxing and enjoyable. The cabin felt like home and was very well kept. The only thing that was a bit of a problem was that in the Guide Book it listed the Boondocks landing as a great place for different activities, but when we drove over, it was closed off by a gate and was personal property so we couldn’t actually do anything here. But the whole trip was great and we loved the cabins!
Cozy, homey and very clean!
We had a nice relaxing time. The cabin was fully stocked with everything we could possibly need and there weren’t a ton of annoying rules and instructions like a lot of rentals have. Cozy, comfortable beds and a beautiful property to explore! Thanks!!
You guys were great guests and we would welcome you back anytime.
Thank you for your kind review.
About one mile from Smithville, Sunset Ridge is a fantastic place to disconnect and explore the outdoors. The area is also home to delicious, family-friendly restaurants and beautiful parks, which we hope you can experience during your stay. Here are our favorite spots:
McCurtain County Game Reserve - 24-mile drive
Broken Bow Lake - 30-mile drive
Cucumber Creek - 10-mile drive
Beavers Bend State Park - 37-mile drive
Mountain Country Store - 2-mile drive
Offering more than you might expect, Mountain Country Store is a one-stop-shop for food and sundries in Smithville. The restaurant offers daily specials, hearty pastas, and fresh salads, all served with a smile by their friendly staff. You can also find any essentials you may have forgotten to pack here, plus a few things that you want but don’t really need, but, hey, you’re on vacation!
Shasta's Burger Box - 4.5-mile drive
When it just seems like too much effort to fire up the grill and whip up some homemade patties, load up the car and head to Shasta’s. This local favorite for burgers and sandwiches is open Friday to Monday, with something on the menu that will please everyone. Yes, even the picky eaters and the health nuts. After your meal, be sure to look around their gift shop, which sells homemade soaps and trinkets.
Chopping Block Steakhouse - 27-mile drive
It’s just not satisfying to finish an invigorating day of horseback riding, hunting, or hiking with a sad-looking salad or a frozen dinner. On those days, a juicy steak or a heaping plate of “fall-of-the-bone” ribs does the body good, and Chopping Block Steakhouse is just the place to go for that satisfying evening meal. Featuring not only high-quality cuts of meat, but also a nice selection of seafood, pasta, and sandwiches, nobody will leave this restaurant hungry.
Grateful Head Pizza - 30-mile drive
Nothing pleases a crowd quite like pizza does, and if your trip to Sunset Ridge involves a group of any type, an outing to Grateful Head Pizza is a must. With decadent, mozzarella-filled breadsticks and some unique pizza toppings, let’s just say we’re grateful that this pizza joint isn’t far. And they get extra points for the rock ‘n roll-inspired menu and pup-friendly patio.
Rolling Fork Takery - 30-mile drive
We get it, sometimes you don’t feel like cooking, but you don’t feel like going out either. Luckily for us on those lazy occasions, Rolling Fork Takery offers delicious, homestyle take-out. This isn’t your ordinary drive-thru stuff, Rolling Fork’s head chef crafts hearty sandwiches, creative tacos, and tasty salads that are perfect for sharing on your backyard dining table at Sunset Ridge. Or, for a casual night of dining out, enjoy the Takery’s cuisine on their dog-friendly patio.
Lighthouse Drive-In - 20-mile drive
Now this is an experience worth driving across the border for - the Arkansas border, that is. For burgers, brisket, fries, and malts with a side of old-school nostalgia, Lighthouse Drive-In is the perfect crowd-pleaser. On a hot summer day, not much tastes better than a scoop of their ice cream or a thick, creamy shake. Bring the whole family or some friends along as an excuse to try both!
Girls Gone Wine - 31-mile drive
For a fun, adults-only escape, make your way to the lively tasting room at Girls Gone WIne Winery in the heart of Hochatown. Featuring wines that are made on-site, the wine offers complimentary samples and a funky gift shop. It’s a great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or just the beginning of a well-deserved vacation.
Hochatown Petting Zoo - 31-mile drive
Sure to please the young'uns (and the young at heart), Hochatown Petting Zoo is a delightful activity for when you need a break from fishing, hiking, or watersports. At this roadside attraction, you can feed, pet, and take selfies with the cute baby animals. The petting zoo boasts a collection of critters including miniature horses, turkeys, raccoons, snakes, birds, and lizards.
A to Z Guest Ranch - 11-mile drive
