Why Betsy and Pete chose Yosemite Area

Imagine this. Living in a forest of trees; surrounded by Yosemite National Park. Quiet, uncrowded, peaceful. Look above at night and explore the stars of the Milky Way stretched before you in the darkening sky. This is what makes Yosemite West a very special place to stay inside the gates of the Park.

What makes this house unique

Pine Arbor Retreat has a spacious living room in a quiet setting with forest views. Sit back in front of a wood burning fire place with book in hand. Cozy! Out on the deck, drink in hand, and watch the frolicking squirrels and mischievous jays as the setting sun reddens the skies. Rest comfortably at night as you dream of the days adventures.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for letting my family and friends stay in this wonderful place. It is very comfortable and relaxing. The bed was very cozy. It was so cozy that we didn't want to get up in the morning. Again, thank you for the very cozy house. I hope we can come again.

Beautiful house in the middle of the forest!

  • 5 of 5

This house exceeded all our expectations! It's really big and has all the luxury you need. The location is perfect if you want to explore Yosemite NP. The hosts are very friendly and give you lots of information. When there is a problem (we had an empty battery) they help you right a way. I would definitely stay here again!

Excellent location ,access within Yosemite park and very close to Glacier Point road. Well equipped.

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location, well equipped spacious unit. Very easy access to Yosemite. Loved the huge sofa.Nice balconies.

Only negative was construction work out back and in the lower ground unit of the building. The workers downstairs were very noisy and raucous on our first night, fortunately they left for the weekend so after the first night all was good!

The Unexpected Surprise!

  • 4 of 5

The four stars are only because we had that unexpected surprise! The house, the setting and the accommodations were lovely.

The unexpected surprise was the Detwiler Fire that had started about the time we arrived at Pine Arbor on Sunday afternoon.

It wasn’t until Monday morning that we learned there was a forest fire. By Tuesday the town of Mariposa was evacuating…But we didn’t know that, because when we woke-up Tuesday morning we had no electricity! Cell phones were not working either and with no electricity, no texting! By 2 the electricity was still off. It wasn’t until 4 that we became concerned, since we had a friend who was driving up from LA to her summer home in Tahoe. She was stopping for dinner and staying overnight outside the park.

I called the number for the housekeepers. The call had been forward, to Pete’s home which was out of the area…He was watching the ‘NEWS’! And it wasn’t good… Mariposa had started evacuation and now 40,000 acres had burned, several roads were closed and the wind had shifted. Plus I told him we had no electricity. We had no idea if and when the electricity might come back on. I said I think we should leave in the morning and he agreed. There was another issue, could he call my husband so that he could call me, and I could give him all the other husband’s numbers to contact. We were a group of 8 ladies ranging in age from 67-76,

Pete was a dear and very apologetic about our situation. But I had another request! What about our friend coming from LA, could he call her and tell her our situation and possibly have her avoid coming our way. He did contact her and she was so grateful for the call. It was midnight when she made it home…

Thanks again for all your help that day Pete. Betsy called to give us final instructions on Wednesday morning before our departure. We left at 9:30 but did a short hike near Wawona, lunch in Manteca and home by 5:30. We were disappointed about having to leave a day early...

We are thankful that there were no serious injuries and that Mariposa and Yosemite were saved. The saddest news was hearing about all the homes which were lost and about the 75,200 acres of land, that will take many many years to recover. Most of all we thank the 5000 firefighters who fought that amazing fire...

Bring that calling card, an extra flashlight and definitely extra batteries…

Remember, you never know when the unexpected can happen…So be ‘PREPARED’!

Convenience vs Noise

  • 4 of 5

Lovely big house in the middle of the park, conveintly close to mountain hiking. This grandmother was very comfortable staying with 8 family members, we had enough beds for all after making up the fold out couch. The only big uncomfortable issue was the noise from construction equipment every day right behind the house as a new house was being constructed. We could not sit on the deck in the afternoon because of the irritating loud noises. We always ended up instead gathering in the kitchen cooking a big meal, an electric can opener would have helped. Even with some minor inconveniences we created a bunch of happy memories in the house this grandmother will remember.
