About Wendy Gates
I started running my first VRBO in Montana nearly 15 years ago in East Glacier Park, Montana. I worked as a teacher while living in the house, then rented it to tourists while living in the garage in the summers. Through this means of sacrifice, I found I could share the amazing terrain known as Glacier National Park with all sorts of people who yearn for adventure. After meeting my "better half", a man known by his friends as Smiles, we moved to this area to enhance the opportunities for adventure and solace on the Olympic Peninsula.
Wendy Gates purchased this House in 2017
Why Wendy Gates chose Clallam County
Smiles and I had been looking for a location on the Olympic Peninsula for a number of years. We bought the property from an old fishing guide and it just seemed to fall into place. The 4.5 acres that extend to the Sol Duc River and the National Forest that borders the property make it unmatched! Beyond easy river access via a grassy fairway, there are also walking trails within the property and nice loop trails through the forest to the river an back. Renting this house out seemed like the ideal setup for people wanting to really experience the Olympic Peninsula and have access to the wonderful activities at the Epic Center of Adventure on The Olympic Peninsula!
What makes this House unique
Located just 20 miles from the Sol Duc Hot Springs and just west of Lake Crescent, this location is the absolutely perfect location to enjoy being in the forest, on the river and right in the middle of it all. River Access, Rural, Located in National Forest, ideal spot for enjoying all of The Olympic Peninsula from north to south, east to west.

Dont miss out on this property, Wendy was great through the whole process. House and propery was everything and more than expected. We were centrally located to all the major national parks, Hohs, Sol duc, Hurricane ridge, Ruby beach, Quinault, Cape Flattery, Lake Crescent.
Dont let this one get away. Will book again
This was the perfect place to stay for several days, not just two nights, as we did. Comfortable, well laid out, fully furnished and equipped, and stocked with more than just the basics. There were good instructions for use of the home, and how to maintain it in good working order. And if there was a question, Wendy was a quick text and response away. The 4 stars for communication was because we were unable to receive Wendy’s responses to questions we had, through the ‘vrbo’ listing communications prior to our trip. This has no bearing whatsoever on Wendy or the accommodation. In fact, another member of our party received a detailed response from Wendy to his questions, just before we left for our trip.
We would not hesitate to recommend this listing! And oh, by the way, the cleanliness of the house was unsurpassed.
We had a wonderful stay!
We stayed for 5 days. This home was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The notebook in the house was very informative and helpful. We rented bikes (provided by the home owner) for a day and rode on the Discovery Trail in the NP. It is a great trail and paved for most of the way to the Log Cabin Resort. You definitely want to stop and purchase groceries and beverages in Port Angeles before you go to the house, it is approx a 45 min drive back to the grocery store. The caretaker “Smiles” is very helpful and responded promptly whenever we had a question. We enjoyed a couple nice evenings with a fire in the fire pit. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a gas grill to cook outside if you want to. Thank you Wendy and Smiles!
The property and house are spectacular! Wendy is so kind and accommodating and goes out of her way to make sure her guests are comfortable and have everything they need. I would most definitely recommend her place to anyone looking for a place to stay near Olympic National Park. 10/10!! Thank you so much Wendy : )
Wonderful Home Base
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Wendy’s property. As another review states, the highway noise can be a little loud but that didn’t really bother us. The house is in great shape. Kitchen is well stocked and the house had everything we needed to feel at home. We got to enjoy a little fishing on the river, had a bonfire, and it was the perfect midway point between Hurricane Ridge and Hoh Rainforest. I 100% recommend this listing!
Perfect location for exploring Olympic National Park. Very clean.
The house is centrally located in the heart of the Olympic Peninsula. Sol Duc hot springs is 20 miles from driveway to parking and access to the Elwha River, Lake Crescent, Sol Duc trailhead, Rialto and La Push beaches, Neah Bay, the Hoh Rainforest and Kalaloch Beach all within an hour's drive.
Backdoor access includes the Kloshe Nanitch lookout which can be approached via trail or Forest Service road immediately out the backdoor of the house. Bike riders will love that you are also less than a mile from the Camp Creek access to the Olympic Discovery Trail as it strolls away from the highway through majestic forest with waterfalls and river crossings then along the backside of Lake Crescent along the Spruce Railroad Trail and through the historic Daley Rankin Tunnel. We deliver bikes to local trailheads for daily rentals. For more adventurous bikers, there are single track trails that spur from the main trail up Mt. Muller. We offer bikes, hiking poles, fishing rods, and more for rental.
We also offer a licensed fishing guide and bicycle rental/delivery and have rent and stay packages for fishing, bike rentals, day pass for Sol Duc hot springs, and mushroom foraging adventures. For any questions about the house, area, or adventure rentals, please send an inquiry so we can get you the information you need to make your reservations and begin anticipating the vacation of a lifetime.
