About Alexandra or Camilla
Camilla, your hostess, was once a teacher of history, English, and political science in Aspen. This circuitously led to the establishment of a very unique, specialty restaurant in the early 1970′s. Picturesque and unusual, this restaurant was featured nationally in magazines and newspapers as advertisement for Aspen’s community and ambiance. Following the sale of this business were some years involved in Medieval and Renaissance art and designing silk clothing and jewelry in India and Hong Kong. International experience and a deep love for “adventure” in faraway places culminated in the development of Elephant and Associates – an adventure travel company specializing in Nile River trips on King Farouk’s old paddle boat. African safaris, from camels to treks both in Kenya and Kashmir, and to remote regions like Ladakh, added immense learning. Scuba diving – the Red Sea being a favorite – biking in China and Europe and in the 90′s, a working partnership on a charter yacht in the Caribbean on board a 75 NZ sloop satiated some of the wonder lust. An infinity for diverse cultures, education, adventure, and love of people has settled into the spice, decor and “hominess” of CasaCamilla.

Our flight from Houston was cancelled due to the trompical storm:(
I look forward to renting one day again! Camilla was lovely to talk to and understood that mother nature had us stuck in Houston.
Magical house but a few things to note
Well, we came with three kids and two dogs and Camilla the owner was so gracious to include our big family. It’s hard to find a rental in Aspen that allows dogs. Throughout the entire house, when the windows are open, you can hear the bubbling river all day long and night. That was definitely the highlight of my stay. The house is located under the flight path of the airport but that provided more entertainment than anything while sitting in the hot tub and watching the private planes fly in above us. A few hiccups in the house like hot tub needed to be cleaned and the showers didn’t have strong pressure. But Camilla had a professional there literally the next day to fix. She cares so much about her house and that we were happy, which was refreshing. I had some of my best naps in her bed with the beautiful sounds of the creek below creating a very spiritual experience. I would note a few things, the appliances are older and take some finesse. I hope she will replace the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer sometime soon bc they didn’t clean very well. She does rent out the apartment next to our unit and you do share the washing machine so it takes some coordination. We had a great week there and so grateful for her most gracious hospitality.
We always appreciate a guest that takes the time to place a review, but this one has some very serious inaccuracies. A new Whirlpool dishwasher was installed one week before arrival. The 4 person hot tub was left crystal clear. This family of 6 were asked verbally and in writing to take a shower before using. Two young children and a baby in diapers required that we drain and scrub the hot tub after 6 days of use. The showers were used by us daily before our guests arrival; one shower was plugged with diaper cleaning. We had a plumber change the shower head on the other shower. The heavy duty Maytag works beautifully. There was no machine conflict with the caretaker as he stayed off the property all but one night.. His apartment is not next to the home and it is not visible The whole upper Valley is on the flight path of airplanes so during "high season" everyone is aware of them. We are meticulous with the upkeep and care of our home and we treasure out guests.
Don't overlook this gem!
If you're looking for a superbly appointed home nestled in a tranquil setting off a wooded river bank, Casa Camilla will delight you. Our stay in September 2011 was much too brief. We took advantage of all amenities including the well-stocked kitchen and cozy fireplace, the moonlit-filled deck with grill, hot tub and outdoor fireplace, the vast library and grand piano.
If you do not find serenity and happiness here, you have failed to embrace the character and spirit of the home and it's breath-taking natural surroundings. Two docile and adorable canines live onsite and are happy to share their home with you in return for a little praise and affection during chance encounters. Their owner ensures they do not wear out their welcome! :)
The home's short distance to Main street Aspen and all the wonderful sights and sounds it has to offer is truly negligeable - you'll appreciate being off the beaten path. If you like what you see in this listing's photos, don't pass Casa Camilla by - there are too many of us who have enjoyed its offerings and are eager to return when openings are available!
Casa Camilla: An affordable, Spacious, and Beautifully Decorated House
For our family, Casa Camilla was an extraordinary experience for our annual ski trip this year. We ski every year for 3 weeks or more in Colorado with another couple. We were tired of being cramped in a 2 bedroom condo and we have never found a large space in downtown Aspen that was affordable. The main house of Casa Camilla is very spacious with a large, well-stocked kitchen, many rooms with nooks and crannies and over-stuffed comfy chairs and sofas, a grand piano, floor to ceiling windows that provide great views, beautiful art and rare antiques, and a lovely “landlady” who is available to meet your needs. The setting is lovely with a river running in the backyard and the entrance to Snowmass is about a mile away. We prefer to have our own rental car but the bus stop on the main highway is only 2 to 3 blocks from the house if needed. I highly recommend Casa Camilla if you are interested in space, charm, and unusual beauty for your ski vacation.
Lovely Get-A-Way to Paradise
We had the great pleasure of enjoying paradise on the river at this private Aspen home. Camilla was the epitome of graciousness and friendliness. We call her our friend now. Our dog was happy with the arrangement as well. He gained two friends, Dolce and James Brown, and wants to visit them again as soon as possible. He liked the beautiful, open grounds where he and his friends romped every day. We will return again and again to this lovely hide-a-way. It is close to everything and has every amenity you could desire. It is the Crème de la Crème in our book of stays in Aspen.
lovely property to enjoy aspen
We had a relaxing stay at this home which is charming and very lovely. The house is flanked by a fountain in front and a river in back. The river is a river it is not a trickling stream. There is plenty of nature to enjoy- peaceful. The owner is so happy to make your stay as wonderful as possible. It is equipped with everything you could possible need for your stay, including 2 TV's for the kiddos, a hammock etc. We enjoyed being a quick drive to town but coming back to a serene retreat.
Visit the pre-historic remains at Snowmass. Hike Maroon Bells and Conundrum. Aspen and Snowmass music festivals. American Express Food and Wine in June.
