Guest Comments: We don’t want to leave! It’s been a wonderful little getaway! Cottontail Cottage is first class; it’s the first cabin that we’ve stayed in that wasn’t furnished with used stuff and hand-me-downs! Warm ambiance, great view and lovely accommodations. So glad we found you and can’t wait to return. Thank you, Ann, Barb and Sherri, Orlando, FL

Oh, what a wonderful week we spent here at Cottontail Cottage! We immediately felt at home. The fresh air, the natural sounds and the friendly people. That’s just like the countryside in Germany, where we grew up. On the days the sun was shining we went out for long hikes. We especially liked the Chatooga River. The Sandy Ford Area with Dick’s Creek Falls was our favorite. We didn’t care about the rainy days as long as we knew that we could come back home, take a hot shower, and cook a wonderful dinner. There is still a lot left we have to explore. Hopefully we will have the pleasure to return to Cottontail Cottage. Thorsten, Sandra & Sophia, Key

More Guest Comments: As fate would have it, we have had a memorable weekend at Cottontail Cottage. We experienced the incredible scenery, really amazing! It was also a treat to sit on the front porch and do nothing! Thank you for being so kind and we will also treasure our time here at your “little piece of heaven.” Barry and Joanna, Myakka City FL. What an amazing cottage-the pictures don’t do it justice!!! We found comfort, peace….and a calm quiet we haven’t had in a long time. You guys thought of everything-we felt pampered & we can’t thank you enough. We’ll definitely be back & I’m sure we’ll be sending others to enjoy the same experience we had! Thanks again! Cheryl & Chris, Brian & Tricia, SC

Gorgeous! The maples are just beautiful this time of year and ending the day with a roaring fire is perfection. We love the antique lanterns and all the extra touches- it’s obvious how much care and thought went into this place. What a wonderful retreat – Thank you! Ann & Marc, Atlanta, GA

and still more Guest Comments: Thank you very much for letting us use “your little cabin” to help us celebrate our 39th anniversary! We were very much impressed with your hospitality & your concern to make sure we had everything we needed. We will be coming back & will recommend your cabins to others. Hope to see you soon! Cecil & Barbara, GA

Sure glad we found you! The cottage is beautiful & I have never seen any place so clean – neat and well decorated. You are delightful landlords and we really enjoyed our stay. Mary & Dick, FL

Thanks so much for a lovely relaxing stay. We especially enjoyed the calm of a grilled dinner on the porch after our whitewater rafting trip. We’ll definitely be back – maybe next time with the kids! Perry & Cindy, Lexington, SC

About Peter or Debbie

We came to the North Georgia Mountains for a visit and fell in love with the majestic beauty of these Blue Ridge Mountains! We moved here because of the people! The good folks here are so friendly, warm and caring. We have been renting Cottontail Cottage in the Woods for more than 11 years and based on customer comments and reviews....we have maintained a consistent 5-star excellent rating with Home Away and VRBO. We treat everyone who stays at our cabin as if they are guests in our own home. We have met truly wonderful guests and lucky for us, a few have moved here and we have become very close friends! Just being in our Mountains makes you feel like you've found a little piece of heaven! Read on to see what our guests have written about their stay at Cottontail Cottage and their own "little pieces of heaven" which they have discovered.....

Why Peter or Debbie chose Clayton

Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful cabin. We have loved our stay & hope that we can take advantage of coming & staying in the future. This place has a great energy that relaxes and comforts all that stay. We did not get to enjoy all the sights, but there really was no need. We found that this place offered all the beauty, peace & tranquility that one could hope to find. This has been the perfect cabin escape & we leave recharged & refreshed. Thank you, Michael & Kellie, SC

Everything You Need In The Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Peter and Debbie have gone out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. From the fresh cookies, fresh peppers, and fresh flowers upon arrival, to the firewood, marshmallow sticks, and information booklet, all you need to do is hop in the car.

The Cabin is a few short miles up the mountain just outside of Clayton. We were a family of two adults, two kids, and two dogs. The cabin has a wonderful wood stove, great large screened in porch, and large outside deck. All the amenities are provided from the kitchen to to the bathroom to the laundry room. Peter has stacked the cabin with starter logs and firewood for your use, and he is available when you arrive to give you the tour. We did not use the extra cabin off the back deck, but we saw it, and it looks just as comfortable as the main cabin. We will probably reserve that next time when we return with friends. Peter and Debbie have prepared an information/itinerary book with everything from restaurants and shops to suggested day trips and area adventures.

The cabin is on a large property with a great view of surrounding mountains. It is certainly secluded, but you do not need a 4X4 to get there. There are several mountain dirt roads right off the driveway to hike up and down the mountain. The dogs loved the morning and evening walks.

This cabin is close to everything. We were able to do tubing in Helen, hiking in Talulah Gorge, waterfall sliding at Wildcat Creek, and hiking from Georgia into North Carolina by Scaly Mountain "up the trail a bit from Tate City". Within 15-20 minutes you have the Dillard House, downtown Clayton (plenty of fun restaurants/live music), Wal-Mart, Ingles, and a walk-in medical clinic (only needed it once). Just a quick drive to Clemson, SC (Go Tigers!), we were able to catch a football game.

We had a wonderful time and can't wait to get back. And of course I have to mention Blue Eyes "Blue". He is the area pooch (clean, collared and cared for) who protects the Mountain. On one particularly long walk at night we ended up way down the mountain after dark, and Blue came and walked us home.

Enjoy!

Love, Love, Love this mountain home!

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to the Clayton area for about 13 years. The place we usually stay at was not available. So we searched VRBO and this diamond in the mountains appeared! We visit Clayton from Wisconsin because our Grand-kids live in the area. From the start of the first email until our departure, Debbie & Peter were wonderful! It was great that Peter met us to give us the house tour! It poured rain for two days during our stay and it was such a pleasure to have the big screened in porch to do activities with our Grand-kids. The house was FULLY furnished with all of the necessities! You truly do just need to bring your PJ's, maybe add tooth brush to that as well! We look forward to our next visit!

Thank you for such wonderful hospitality Debbie & Peter!!

ps, The plate of home made cookies were AMAZING!!

Hurricane Irma

  • 5 of 5

My family bugged out from SW Florida in anticipation of hurricane Irma. We booked this wonderful cabin in Clayton GA. Even though Irma followed us to the area and knocked out power, water, phone, and cable, the Owners were right there helping us get through the storm.

We had two very relaxing days before the storm found us and will surely return to this very private, quiet cabin in the woods. Thank you Peter and Debbie!
