About Diane M. Daly
I have always had a deep love for nature which my Father had instilled in me since I was a child. I was committed all my life to working hard and making enough money to be able to retire in the Adirondack Mountains that I love so much. I am a graduate of Paul Smiths College, specializing in Culinary arts and Hospitality management. My Father sent me to Paul Smith's to learn about the industry and take over our family business that he had purchased in 1960. I had to work very hard and prove myself to him before he would gift the property to me. I worked in the appraisal field for approximately 30 years and had a very successful Real Estate Appraisal Firm with 2 offices in Delray Beach and Palm Beach Florida , specializing in multimillion dollar properties. I enjoyed my work, met a lot of interesting people, however did not like sitting behind a computer and would always be dreaming of getting out of the city, away from the stress and back to the mountains. In 2012 I finally was able to totally renovate and reopen our property with the new name " Bear Country Lodge." I am living my dream and I love being able to share this beautiful place with my guests. It is my guests who always tell me "It's Magical".

Why Diane M. Daly chose Stony Creek
Are you looking for a 'True Adirondack Experience', but want the luxury of an elegant Bavarian style chalet. My Father traveled around the world as a Chief Engineer with the Merchant Marines. He had been everywhere in the world and when he found our property he fell in love with it's uniqueness. The mountains, the peace and quiet, the magnificent stars at night, the calling of the loons. Nestled amongst 100 FT pines Bear Country Lodge is enchanting, swim in our spring fed mountain magical lake, go fishing, go canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, hike the beautiful close by trails, sit by your own PRIVATE CAMPFIRE, ( not one that you have to share with the rest of the resort) The chalets are luxurious and cozy with knotty pine very Adirondack style interior, decorated in the Native American style. Luxurious Denali bedding. My Father originally purchased this property as the Original Stony Creek Dude Ranch back in 1960. I have been coming here for over 50 years now. Please read about our History on owner's website.

A great place to unplug, & enjoy some family time amidst the beautiful nature of the Adirondacks!
My husband, 10-year old aughter and I spent a week at the Bear Country Lodge in Stony Creek, NY. We had an incredible time enjoying the lake and the lodge activities, making easy day trips to Fort Ticonderoga, the Adirondack museum, and river rafting (all well-worth a visit). With long ties to the region and a deep appreciation for the restorative powers of nature and the history of the area, owner Diane was an extremely helpful and responsive host. Not only did she respond to every request big and small, but also provided great feedback and recommendations on potential day trips and activities, as well as checking in on the status of guests (old and young) on site, ensuring everyone had what they needed and were enjoying themselves. It is clear from the attention to detail through the chalets and across the activities of the site (from sheets, bedspreads, and deck chairs, to firewood, golf-holes, and swings) that the entire enterprise is a labor of love.
There are four separate chalets, each with their own deck and fire-pit and each within view of the activities on offer (e.g., mini-golf, play-set, volleyball, badminton, tether ball, ping-pong, croquet…shuffle-board or bocce anyone?). It was great for being able to relax while the kids played, or play together as a family. It would be a wonderful place to host a family reunion! The chalets were clean, well outfitted, and very comfortable. Cell reception (at least with our carrier) was spotty (as it was throughout the region - a nice perk actually), but the lodge had WiFI and we didn’t have any trouble connecting. WiFI can also supply the TV (videos are available on-site as well), though we did not utilize this feature as we spent our time at the lake, campfire, and activities. The lake is just a few minutes’ walk from the chalet, and life-vests, oars, boats, paddle-boards, kayaks and other craft are available for use (with no additional cost). We spent hours learning to paddle-board, swimming back and forth from the floating dock, and kayaking up and down the lake. As you are away from the hustle and bustle of the more populated tourist spots, the lake is incredibly peaceful, particularly in the early morning where the water is still like a mirror (at least until broken by kids jumping in). If you’re looking for that ability to get out to nature while still having access to activities and some of the comforts of home, this is definitely a great place. We would love to come back.
Thank you so much for the nice review. I am happy that you enjoyed staying at Bear Country Lodge and I loved watching you use all of our amenities that we have to offer. We are so busy here and continuously are adding new features, improvements, just added air hockey for our recreation barn, soccer field goals, another swing set, that makes 3, new outdoor dining tables, a water fountain and additional statues, brass bell, etc, to our 9 hole miniature golf course and continue to add. Love that Amazon Prime. Thank you so much for visiting, I enjoyed our conversations. I wish you had told me that your wifi carrier was a little spotty, I have AT & T and never have a problem, but I will call my tech guy and look into it right away. I want the best for my guests. Fall will be here soon, the foliage is beautiful that time of year, I hope you will come back and see us soon.
Dianne was very thoughtful and friendly. The cabin was wonderfully decorated with high quality bedding and all the essentials. For us the location did not work well with our plans but that is not to say it wouldn’t be better for others. This is a very remote location and the lake access is not adjacent to the cabin. To acccess the lake you will need to walk a fair distance and descend a steep hill which was problematic for our elderly mother and we didn’t get to use the lake as we had hoped which was disappointing. If you are looking to be out and away from nearly everything then this is an ideal place. However if you looking for something within an easy commute to the Lake George area this is not well suited. Again, for the right fit the property is quite nice.
I am very happy that you appreciated my wonderful chalet and the high quality bedding and essentials that I provide. I am sorry that my location did not fit your needs. We at Bear Country Lodge are all about connecting with nature and being away from the hustle and bustle of the city, as advertised in my website. Lake George is just over 1/2 an hour away, however very congested, and busy. It works well for people who are looking to be in the midst of that environment. We are quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by 100 FT majestic pines with a magical lake devoid of noisy motor boats, and droves of people. In addition to Crystal clean Harrisburg Lake, we have RIGHT ON SIGHT all kinds of amenities, an Adirondack theme 9 hole miniature golf course, Professional Bocce ball court, shuffleboard court, 2 play sets, climbing sky dome, recreation barn with ping pong and poker table, tether ball, badminton, volleyball, croquet, TIPI, your own campfire circle, WEBER gas grill, And assortment of other games. My aerial photo shows that the chalet is adjacent to the lake being only about 400 FT away and can actually be seen from the rear of the cabin. I am very sorry that you were not able to go boating, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, swimming , or fishing on the lake as 99% of my guests partake in. Being Elderly is understandably a challenge but we strive to do our best to accommodate everyone's special needs. We do everything conceivably possible to make sure your family had access to all of our amenities.
A Family Lake Vacation (The Full Package)
Our family of six truly enjoyed our experience at Bear Country Lodge. Diane was an amazing host who made our stay personable and easy. We enjoyed all the amentities provided in the form of activities for kids and adults alike, a convenient store on site, and more. The lake was absolutely beautiful, clear, and refreshing. It was perfect for everybody's hobbies and abilities. My kids enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking, and canoeing around the lake (made possible by equipment provided by the lodge). We caught a few fish, too. For our first lake side vacation, staying here was a perfect place for us. We had the best time. Thank you, Diane!
Thank you so much. I really enjoyed having your family vacation at BEAR COUNTRY LODGE. What a beautiful family and such well mannered children. The apple does not fall far from the tree. You are welcome here anytime. I hope you will visit me in the Fall. The colors of the foliage are amazing, crisp clear nights. We are installing professional lighting on our golf course now so you can play late into the night.
