Disappointed. We booked this property for 3 nights (Aug 23-26) as the base for my daughter's wedding. Our three decision criteria were location (close to venue), number of bathrooms (4.5) and air conditioning. It failed on two of the three. The location was great. On the day of the wedding there was a sewer /septic tank blockage related to the prior guests which rendered 2 of 3 showers not functional (as well as the toilets and sinks in those two main floor bathrooms). Therefore, my sister's family were not able to shower on the day of the wedding. The AC unit for the main level did not work, the weather was sticky meaning those in the master suite did not sleep well. The floors were disgustingly grimy - while they looked clean, we had a crawling baby who picked up black grime on her legs - we tried to be respectful and remove our shoes only to have black grime on our feet and then compounded by the lack of functioning bathrooms. There were small ants throughout the house - mainly in the dishwasher and bathrooms, but not restricted to those areas.
While Fred and Melody were responsive to the plumbing issue, it meant we had service people on site on the Friday afternoon (a few hours to assess, but not fix, the issue in the master and main floor ensuite while the family should have been getting ready for the wedding) and then for a couple hours on Saturday morning to clear the pipes. And the lawn maintenance crew arrived on Friday morning unannounced.
On the positive, we were allowed access a couple hours early on Thursday which was greatly appreciated to get dressed for the rehearsal (we had showered in advance of arriving) and the location was very close to the venue which was ideal.
Overall, we paid a premium price for a house that is tired and did not meet our needs as a result of the level of maintenance for an aging house. Very disappointed. Despite leaving a long note for Melody and Fred, highlighting our concerns and other areas noted needing attention, there has been no response.
We are a SUPER HOST on the same property on other websites with all perfect positive reviews. Please check their honest reviews!
Two sides to every story and unfortunately this guest was on the other side. The damage to the plumbing was in fact the guests fault. (paper towels and baby diaper was flushing in toilets).
Our guess is their poor review and attack was a tactic to avoid having their deposit in jeopardy of being returned. We were kind enough to return their deposit in full even though we incurred damages because of their actions and carelessness.
We responded to every request within the hour and even went the extra mile in countless ways.
They have requested to arrive early and in order to accommodate an early check-in for Brenda, Joyce and Susan group I've gone the extra mile to clean, prepare and make the property ready in order to make them happy.
The 2nd day of their stay (Friday), I sent them a message asking them if everything is ok and they have never responded.
All the bathrooms and showers were in perfect working order with the previous guests and also during their stay from Thursday and Friday. As we tested them before their arrival and after they checked out.
On Friday afternoon, Brenda or Joyce called me to complain regarding the drain that the water draining slow. In less than half an hour I've shown up to check the drain and or fix the problem. I could not get that fixed then immediately I contacted a Plumber and made an emergency request for service. I've asked the guests what time is more convenient for them for the plumber to show up. They said not today!!! They asked me to send the plumber the next day around 10 AM. Per their request the plumber arrived at 10:03 AM and immediately started the job and pulled out lots of paper towel along with pieces of a child’s diaper from the main line. However, a noticeable sign: "PLEASE DO NOT THROW PAPER TOWEL IN TOILET" have been posted in all the bathrooms.
The Air conditioning units are working fine.
The gardening service are scheduled for every Friday.
The guests were acting so nice and were worried about their deposits and trying to convince me that the plumbing issue is not their fault.
I refunded their deposit in full. I DID NOT deduct even a penny from their deposit.
I know this guest does not reflect the many wonderful people we have hosted. We are looking forward to hosting many more guests and being a part of the memories they make with their loved ones!
