This cottage has the charm of 'old' St Simons. We offer you our pet friendly cottage 2 - 3 blocks from the beach, the Pier, the Village, the Lighthouse, the public pool and a beautiful old Live Oak Tree Park. This is a well-loved, fully furnished two bedroom home shaded by 200 year old oaks on a low traveled, sandy, unpaved lane.
Sip your morning coffee on the wide screen porch and listen to the birds underneath the Oak trees and Spanish Moss, ride bike's on the beach, and enjoy the cozy interior of the 'Marsh Hen’s Nest'. This charming little cottage is 100 years old with a 1920's type architecture, yet offering some nice modern conveniences like central heat and air, cable TV and WiFi. Work away from home with our high speed WiFi and free long distance and entertain the kids with our HiDef TV DVR and game port. You can relax and work here for retreat or vacation!

Carrell bought this home about 35 years ago to have a family beach vacation retreat. Our family has collected many fond memories in this little cottage on St. Simons Island.
We love hanging out on the front porch, walking and riding bikes to the beach, pier, lighthouse, pool and Oak Tree park, watching movies, playing cards, cooking homecooked meals, and just hanging out together.
Location was perfect. Cottage was accommodating with some needed TCL. Bed in one bedroom was very comfortable. Flooring in kitchen was very worn. We just kept thinking of the location to the beach and village. Housekeeping could have spent a little more time. The front porch was very inviting and we spent a lot of time lounging there. Although the bottom board on door was falling off and screens in places needed repair. Spending most of our time on the beach was what we were looking for. This year we saw more dolphins then we have in the past three years. We are now trying to book our 2019 vacation. Hoping this cottage is available.
A quick thanks to the owner who saved us from chaos. When moving in we locked ourselves along with our cellphones and contact numbers for the owner out. Our next door neighbors staying in the owners other property bailed us out with use of their cellphones and within 45 minutes the owner had his maintainence crew come to our rescue and let us in. The rest of the trip was relaxing and uneventful. Could’ve used a little bit better weather but we know it is a crap shoot in February.
I loved the location. I loved the fact that I could bring my animals. I had a very nice time in the area of St. Simmon. The trees were fabulous on the street and the neighbors were excellent.
However, the porch door was rotted away on the bottom and the screen was missing or torn loose in several places on the porch. That made it unsuitable for small dogs. The furniture was shabby but would work great for someone with small children that might spill and stain. I wanted to wash the curtains. The washer worked great. The shower was good. The back yard was a nice addition for the dogs. I would like to consider another trip to the island.
Most importantly, I felt safe.
Needed work. The bathroom is worn and needs painting. The kitchen floor consists of peeling linoleum. The front screen door is broken and wood is hanging loose. The screen on the porch is broken in many places. There are no smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors. The light in the master bedroom was burned out. The positive things were a good heating system, decent furniture and a great location near the town and the beach. It is also pet friendly but we had to barricade the broken front screen door to keep the cats in . This place just needs work inside to make it appealing and not looking like a fixer upper. In its current state I would not recommend it.
We have stayed here many times. The location and price are great. It's a simple old Island style cottage that feels like home.
The owner, Sean, is very attentive.
The house was in poor shape. The pictures do not show the true condition of the property. The front screen door had a hole in it. The flooring in the kitchen and bath were worn through in places and molding in the bathroom was rotting. If renovated this would be a wonderful place but we would not stay there again in the current condition.
