About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + studio, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Casa Jardín

American designer's 'Mexican-modern meets Bauhaus' style. Private and elegant. Sunny western exposure with sunset view over town's churches.

Large master bedroom with its own balcony, king-size bed, en-suite bath. Smaller guest room with two twins.

Rooftop studio with pullout sofa.

Great room with gas fireplace, dining and well-appointed modern kitchen area. Sunny bay window seats you out almost into the garden. Two full baths, plus 1/2 bath on roof. English-style cottage garden meets southwest; fresh herbs, sunny terrace with out-door dining, barbecue, and roof terrace with spectacular view.

Ten minute walk to market and historical center; car unnecessary. Lively authentic Mexican neighborhood.

Weekly maid service included.

Note: This is Mexico. Sometimes fireworks can sound into the night and children play outside the front door. An occasional rooster can be heard, or a dog on the roof (generally not in our neighborhood). Not that these will happen all at once! Or even at all. But when visiting Mexico it is good to remember you are in a different culture, and will experience its unique and beautiful flavor and texture...

Fantastic Home in San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Jardin this January. It is beautiful. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. There is wonderful art everywhere. The kitchen worked well, the table seats six, the sitting area was very comfortable, the downstairs bedroom and bath were perfect for a guest, and the upstairs bedroom and bath were exceptionally comfortable. A few more steps led to a rooftop laundry room, a separate studio, and a large terrace. The view of San Miguel from the roof was breathtaking. It was matched only by the beauty of the ground floor patio and garden visible through a wall of windows and glass doors from the kitchen, dining area, and living room.

We were advised that the house is in a typical Mexican neighborhood, that there would be children playing outside our door, and that there would be celebrations and fireworks. All of that was true, and it contributed to what made our stay so wonderful. Our neighbors were exceptionally friendly and helpful, always greeting us when we returned and offering to help us if we were carrying groceries. We particularly admired the family across from us, who were especially friendly and typified for us the closeness of the average Mexican family.

We had the services of a housekeeper who came once a week to clean, change the linens, wash and fold clothes, and so on and a gardener who also came once a week to keep everything in the garden and on the roof looking good. Both were wonderful and greatly appreciated.

There were some minor problems that should be mentioned. The house is off of Calle Tecolote, and the walk going toward the center of San Miguel is a steep downhill, but a very steep uphill walk returning. We simply took a taxi home. Taxis in San Miguel charge a flat rate of $2.00 per trip, and they dropped us off a very short walk to our front door. For anyone in good health and good shape, the uphill walk home might not be a problem. I walked up twice at the end of our stay. Several things in the house required attention during the course of our stay. In each case the problem was quickly and completely resolved by a simple phone call to the property management company.

San Miguel is a wonderful place. The weather is great; the people are among the nicest we’ve encountered anywhere; there’s art everywhere; there are innumerable good, affordable restaurants; and the entire center is a UNESCO heritage site. We will definitely be visiting again next year.

Wonderful time at Casa Jardin

  • 5 of 5

Casa Jardin is a charming, spacious house with gorgeous views of San Miguel. The house is very well equipped with everything you might need, and it is very comfortable. Everyone who met us was so nice and so accommodating. The housekeeper had the house sparkling!! We loved the location - walking distance to everything, and we would definitely stay there again.

Just What We Were Looking For!

  • 5 of 5

On our second trip to San Miguel, we rented the lovely, contemporary Casa Jardin, I felt right at home. Beautiful, spacious, gorgeous garden, roof top. Perfect location, walking distance to downtown. What a view! We had everything we needed - kitchen was well stocked for cooking, big master bedroom and bath. The best part was the neighborhood. Wonderful neighbors and kids playing in the "callejón". The Management service responded quickly and thoughtfully to all our needs. Can't wait to rent it again!!!

We're coming back!

  • 4 of 5

Louise and I stayed at Casa Jardin for seven weeks from mid-February 2016.

The headline description of “American designer's 'Mexican-modern meets Bauhaus' style weekend hide-away” is spot on. Those that appreciate good architecture and thoughtful design will love this house. It is light, airy, spacious and with great outside seating areas opening up from the kitchen/dining/living area. The kitchen is very well equipped. The garden is a real delight; and has been planned by someone with a love of gardening. Louise counted thirty different shrubs and flowers plus a lemon tree!

Erika and her team provided wonderful support and the few minor glitches were dealt with efficiently and promptly. Regina, the maid, (always cheerful) also did a great job.

Only two things to be aware of: the street up to the house is steep but it is only 300 metres long and it does get you fit. And this is a Mexican area (not some sanitised enclave) so the happy kids do play football and shoot baskets in the Callejon in the evenings. But we did give them a new football before we left.

What really says it all is that we’ve booked again for 2017.

Wonderful stay at Casa Jardin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 2 weeks at this architecturally pleasing and art filled house. Casa Jardin is very clean and modern with a spectacular garden. We enjoyed the sound of the roosters in the morning in the distance and the children playing on the street in the evenings. It was a short 5-10 minute walk to the Centro. There are many activities and art galleries listed in The Atencion newspaper. We would definitely return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 weeks at CASA JARDIN and especially the convenience of an easy 10 minute walk to the center of San Miguel. The steep streets make the walk back a little more challenging. The home is well appointed , comfortable and spacious and offers wonderful views of the city from the upper deck. The gas fireplace kept the chill off in the mornings and evenings!! The property management company handled all our needs promptly and the gardener and housekeeper provided great service. We would stay at Casa Jardin again.
